Oh man, I am IN LOVE with this new Stephen King book. I’ve got about 100 pages left (no spoilers!) and I think I read about 400 pages of it just on my 4 hour flight back to LA yesterday. Has anyone else read it? If not, what are your other favorite Stephen King books?

I read SK books for a long time and then a few got weird so I quit reading for a bit. I’ve heard this one is good but haven’t had a chance to read it yet but would love to! My favorite book by SK is “Bag of Bones”. I also liked Misery. Have you read “Under the Dome” yet? I’ve heard that one was good also.

Misery is probably my favorite Stephen King book, but I’ve never read Bag of Bones. I think I kept confusing it with Pet Cemetery and everybody’s like STAY AWAY FROM PET CEMETERY FOREVER so Bag of Bones got lost in the confusion, but maybe I should start it up? Is it more supernatural or horror?

I sttttttarted reading Under the Dome, but stupidly I got it in hardcover and that book is a BITCH to carry around because it has so many pages. I’ll probably start it up again soon. The thing I’m really liking about 11/22/63 is how old school Stephen King it feels. Every page is more interesting than the last one and even though I think we come from a society who tends to overdue the time travel gimmick in movies/books/tv, King’s take feels so fresh and gloriously horrifying without being cheesy. There’s also a little sub plot featuring another one of his best stories.

The one Stephen King that I would tell everyone to stay away from is Lisey’s Story. Honestly it rubbed me the wrong way and was way too depressing for me to enjoy. At some points it actually made me mad that he was putting me through this, lol.

It has been a really long time since I read bag of bones (it came out in 98) and would like to re-read the book. At the time I read it I really loved it – it was one of the last SK books I read that I really liked. If I can remember correctly it’s got a little supernatural stuff in it (like ghosts, curses and whatnot). I never read Pet Cemetery and concur that I would never read the book after watching the movie. Bag of Bones had a great story – not just horror like PS.

I can’t wait to read 11/22/63 now! I love the “old school SK” writing!! And I’ll stay away from Lisey’s story. I don’t really like reading depressing books anyway – good to know.

BTW – Did you ever see the move they made from Misery? I thought the movie was pretty good – a little slow sometimes but man was it creepy.

I’m a Stephen King junkie, but I haven’t yet read 11/22/63 OR Under the Dome (I have it, just haven’t started it yet). I like the Dark Tower series the best and can’t wait for the new one that’s coming out in April. If you haven’t read them, YOU MUST. My other favorites of his are The Stand, Desperation, and The Long Walk (Bachman). Bag of Bones is OK (did anyone watch the TV 2-parter?). I think Pet Sematary is cheesy, but totally worth reading anyway.

Seriously, though…. DARK TOWER.

i lovvve Stephen King. I started reading his stuff when i was about 9 (yep, can you say nightmares??) The Talisman is one of my all time faves, as well as the Stand and i reread them on a regular basis.

The Dark Tower series is AWESOME. I’m due to read the whole thing again. I’d love to get them all for my home library :)

See the Bachman books I find harder to read. I did like Thinner, but Desperation was meh. I also found that after his accident, his books weren’t quite the same to me, I didnt feel the same ‘pull’ to them.

I try to stay away from movies etc based on his books, except for those he wrote the screenplays for himself, or ones directed by Frank Darabont. Darabont *gets* it. the feel is right.

I really like Stephen King, i have read 11/22/63, Under The Dome, Thinner, The Shining, A Buick 8, Cujo, Everything’s Eventual: 14 Dark Tales, The Stand, Firestarter, The Green Mile, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Riding The Bullet, and one more that he wrote under another authors name, can’t remember though.

I really enjoyed 11/22/63, my mom got it for me when i came home for x-mas and i just could not put it down, i think i read it in a week, but i was working too, so i am sure i could have finished it quicker if i could:P Its not as unusual as some of his other books, it definitely has more character development than his other books i have read. But near the end when they started to explain some of the details it got really interesting.

I read Under the Dome when it came out, my dad originally picked it up for himself but couldn’t get into it, so i read it instead. It was really long, obviously! But interesting, the corruption of the town and its citizens really captured me, but the whole sci-fi factor too it was pretty weak compared to some of his other novels/stories.

I keep hearing about his Dark Tower series, has anyone read them, and would you recommend it? As i am going to be needing something to read over the summer:)
