So, has anyone ever done this? If so, was it effective? I just had my yearly physical and talked to my doctor about it and she gave me the go-ahead as my first step in the process. It is possible there will be fertility issues due to endometriosis and ovarian cysts, but she is pretty confident it won’t be a problem. My husband cannot have any more kids naturally (vasectomy after his ex-wife had 2 very difficult pregnancies) and we would like to have one, but do not want to spend the astronomical amount of money AI can cost in the clinic. I just wanted to hear from other people who may have had good or bad experiences with this and any advice anyone has to offer.

I’ve never done it. I had a lesbian couple who lived upstairs when I lived in a 4-plex during my 3rd pregnancy and they kept trying. They kept failing, but I never did know the reason WHY they kept failing. I didn’t ask because I didn’t know them very well. Granted, they did ask for a “donation” from my then-husband. *laugh* Talk about a neighborly question!

    Good luck!

I don’t have any advice on at-home AI never having heard of anyone trying before but have you looked at reversing the vasectomy? I have heard of successful reversals. If that works then you can try as often as you like then!

Wow AKchic – whatever happened to borrowing a cup of sugar from your neighbour?

Unfortunately the rate of success for reversals goes down a lot every year. Plus its obnoxiously expensive and the poor guy doesn’t want them to have to cut him up repeatedly (because we’re only having 1 and we don’t want to worry about it after that).

There’s a writer over at xojane that’s attempting this. http://www.xojane.com/list/getting-pregnant-with-michelle-tea
