I live juuuust outside Somerville and work in Cambridge. Anyone interested in a Boston-area gathering?

I like one town over from Cambridge. If we can recruit some Dear Wendy readers, I’d love to go a Boston-area gathering!

Hey you guys – there’s a chance I could be moving to Boston – if yes, will you be my friend? I know no one in Boston. Danke.

We can totally be friends! If you have any interest in Science Fiction/Fantasy tv/books/pop culture, my fiance is one of the coordinators for the Boston area SciFi/Fantasy MeetUp group. They do a lot of really fun events, including a massive monthly social meetup (hanging out at a bar in Cambridge), movie marathons, and we’ve started a tradition of throwing an epic Halloween party.

And if SciFi/fantasy stuff isn’t your thing, well I like lots of other stuff. I just know a lot of people who have made friends and met new people through the SciFi MeetUp, so I know it’s a good option for people new to the area.

My brain shuts down when it comes to Sci Fi. I don’t get it. I have a hard time following Harry Potter…. But I do like: movies and documentaries, Tina Fey, yoga, dogs, red wine, pizza, and red wine + pizza. And long walks on the beach. And rainbows.

(Is Harry Potter “Sci Fi”?)

I think Harry Potter totally counts, at least under the “fantasy-ish” category. I love: cats, dogs, comics, good bourbon, sewing, pizza, anything involving carbohydrates, and Star Wars. I may or may not be planning a classy Star Wars wedding. (Gorgeous dresses, gorgeous venue, cake with Ewok figurines on top, pianist playing piano versions of Star Wars soundtrack. It will either be brilliant or insane.)

I live in Southie and would be totally interested in a meet-up. And Addie Pray, you would make friends easily in Boston. Plus you have a few here already :)

Septicidal, I’m moving to Boston in a couple of months and am a total sci fi/fantasy nerd. I’ll know absolutely no one. How can I get involved with this Sci Fi/Fantasy Meet Up thing?

You can see the upcoming MeetUp events here: http://www.meetup.com/boston-scifi/

The monthly social MeetUp is in Harvard Square and is awesome. We’re at a point where so many people come that the restaurant that hosts it lets us have the entire upstairs. Most of the other events tend to be fairly small (a dozen or so people).

Addie Pray- I knew absolutely no one before I moved to Boston last May and slowly but surely made friends. I am not a sci-fi person either, I usually nod my head and make interested “hmm” noises when my friends get into it.

I am also a wine and pizza lover, and do yoga on my own at home and there a bunch of meetups for wine and yoga lovers- so I’m sure you’ll find something.

Let us know if you make the move!

I live in Quincy, and work in Downtown Crossing so if there is a meet up just let me know! I can do lunches to during the work week.
