Guys! It’s my LAST DAY OF WORK!!! My exit interviews and out-processing and all that start at 1pm!
I told my best friend/roommate this morning that “This may very well be the last time I EVER work in corporate America.” And come hell or high water, I really mean to stick to that. No more pencil skirts (wearing one right now!), no more conservative button-ups. No more sitting in front of a computer screen for 8 hours, feeling the cellulite slowly collecting on my thighs and ass.
For those of you who don’t know, I’m going to be nannying for a really awesome family and doing some part-time tutoring to get my monthly paycheck. Nannying, in particular, appeals to me because I get to wear whatever I want, MOVE AROUND, and I get to feel like I’m making a positive difference…which I certainly never felt like in this office. All of that, plus I’m working on starting my own business (and a few other projects…one of which MAY include an advice column of my own…stay tuned!). Money isn’t going to be flowing in quite as much as it was at this job, but the pros of leaving have SO outweighed the cons.
So anyway, I’M EXCITED!

i remember when i left my terrible job about a year ago, i left the building, and i just kind of was shocked for a moment as i realized- i never, never, EVER, had to go back! it was so liberating. i hope you get that moment!
May 4, 2012 at 9:51 am #23844Congrats, it must be very liberating.
May 4, 2012 at 10:33 am #23855Congrats!!! I left corporate hell for nannying and returning to school last summer and I never looked back. You”ll love it!!
May 4, 2012 at 11:50 am #23865Dude, you are making me want to quit my job!!
May 4, 2012 at 12:01 pm #23867Yeah I’m definitely jealous. What I wouldn’t give to financially be able to afford to quit my job and go to grad school full time…(or just retire all together but that’s really dreaming…).
Sadly this isn’t an option for me as living on my own in the NOVA area is too expensive. I would have to take out like 40k or more in loans to be able to pay for tuition and rent and it’s just not worth going that far into debt to me. Especially now that student loan interest rates are going back up to 5%+. I’d rather suffer through my boring office job I don’t like and make the ~120,000+ I’ll make (before bills) over the next 3 years. Plus I’d be losing out on 401K contributions and who knows what the value of that would be in 20 years. I feel like I’m making the fiscally correct decision, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it right?
May 4, 2012 at 3:59 pm #23929Congrats RR, I’m excited for you!
May 4, 2012 at 7:17 pm #23963YAY! Congrats! Cheers to escaping corporate hell! Nannying sounds awesome, and I’d love to read your advice column if you start one.
