The best lsat minute vacation I ever did was scuba diving in Egypt. AMAZING. Not sure how you can get a deal to egpyt from the USA though, it’s sort of Europe’s Mexico.
But if I were in the US and wanted an adventure vacation I would go scuba diving in Belize. If you don’t dive, go see all the ruins in guatamala or Peru.
June 13, 2012 at 5:49 am #29707Can you just google last minute? There are lots and lots of last minute vacation possabilities here. Does travelocity do last minute vacations?
June 13, 2012 at 6:00 am #29708Thanks, guys. I really wanted to take a long road trip around the USA but now I won’t have time. Even though I’ve had plenty of time the last couple of months – but I always had something – an interview, a wedding, etc. – keeping me home. Oh well, that’s life. And it’s not a bad life at all. You know there’s an extra seat on a flight to Europe today. I think there should be a rule where day-of seats cost $10. Ha! I’ll check out those websites and see what pops up.
June 13, 2012 at 8:08 am #29721Addie, once you move, you can always do little side trips from Charlotte – like to DC, or Savannah (which is super cute!) or Myrtle Beach, etc. You’ll be closer to cities on the Eastern Seaboard and could make trips along the East more feasible!
June 13, 2012 at 8:12 am #29722Oh update about that, quixotic – I am staying put in Chicago! After all that back-and-forth, back-and-forth, and more back-and-forth, I turned Charlotte down. I agonized over that decision for 4 days. I apologize to everyone who I consulted about this – you guys, friends, family, my doorman, co-workers, etc. – I really sucked everyone in to that dilemma! The job in Charlotte was only temporary and, though there were a lot of opportunities that I’ll probably think about forever, Chicago seemed like the more responsible way to go.
June 13, 2012 at 8:27 am #29724oh wow you are a flip flopper AP! lol. so chicago, for sure? for sure, for sure?
i have heard that maccu piccu is going to be closed to the public in the next 5-10 years forever because it is literally breaking from being walked on by people all day long, so maybe that would be a good trip?
June 13, 2012 at 8:34 am #29725Well, think of it this way: now that you’re staying in Chicago, there’s at least a chance we can hang out sometime. If you were in Charlotte, it’d be quite a drive
June 13, 2012 at 8:53 am #29726Roadtrip to Toronto!
June 13, 2012 at 9:04 am #29729What about a surf trip to Costa Rica? I think i’m going to do that in November – there was a surf/yoga one that I was looking at. If you want something a little further, definitely check out a Machu Picchu trek – there’s lots of tour companies that will have spots for a single last minute, especially once you get there there’s lots of smaller companies. That was the second best thing I did in South America – you should also check out the Galapagos. Same thing – should be last minute spots for a single.
June 13, 2012 at 9:05 am #29731I’m a big flip-flopper. I don’t like making big decisions. … I stress out when it’s time to order at brunch! But I’ve said no to Charlotte so that is definitely off the table. I have to decide between two Chicago gigs now, but I’m trying to put on my big girl pants and make this decision without agonizing about it to others. Though, a few people have had to listen to me rattle off my pros and cons and whatnot. It’s a little complicated but… I’m hoping to say YES to one place this morning. Katie, wanna go get breakfast? I want a breakfast burrito. I’ll order quickly, I promise.
June 13, 2012 at 9:07 am #29732Oh the Galapagos sounds fun…. I just need to find good sites for these last minute deals. Maybe I should just call an airline and ask if they have any flights today going somewhere with a cheap seat.

June 13, 2012 at 9:15 am #29738I’ve heard Japan is great….next year when I have 5 weeks of vacation I want to take a cross-country roadtrip….
June 13, 2012 at 9:20 am #29739Hey Addie a thing about international travel is that usually you have to buy the seat 3 days ahead of the flight. IF you buy it with a credit card. If you can pay cash it doesn’t matter, but I’ve never bought a plane ticket except online, so I dunno about that
