I second the Groupon Getaways thing- They have awesome deals, and they’re usually valid right away.
I wanted to go to the Galapagos for my honeymoon, but it was WAAAAAAY too expensive
I’m with the Machu Pichu people. That’s on my list, for sure!June 13, 2012 at 9:36 am #29748Iceland. I’ve heard amazing things. Also, I’d like to pretend to be Addie pretending. France and England too many times?
June 13, 2012 at 10:19 am #29766@lbh, yea, that sounds kind of snobby of me. The only reason I’ve been there so many times is because of several study abroad-type things that I’ve done – one long stint in England and one really long stint in France plus a couple other semi-long stints in France. And of course once you’re in either place you just hop the TGV and arrive on the other side of the channel in time for lunch. And when you throw in short trips you’ve had to make for weddings, or that time you found a ticket for $250 so you went to Paris from Chi for a last-minute long weekend, it adds up…. and it makes you want to go to ICELAND this time…. that’s a great idea!
June 13, 2012 at 10:21 am #29767But the funny thing is I’ve never been to a lot of places in the USA, which is why a road trip across country is what I really want to do, especially if I had my boyfriend Budj back, then we could go together. But alas, our timing didn’t work out. Sigh.
June 13, 2012 at 10:22 am #29768Oohh, Iceland! I want to go there so bad. I heard the hot springs there are amazing, the views are amazing, but the only downside is things are pretty expensive there.
June 13, 2012 at 10:27 am #29770I miss the pre-Euro days where the dollar was king and I could roam around france and drink glasses of wine for $2. And buy coats in Spain that I still wear that cost me only $10. … Or that time I backpacked all over france on $30 a day, which included hostels and trains. Or that time I got a gig teaching english in the alps and we snuck into the cafeteria at night to drink wine from the fountain except the fountain broke and it flooded the cafe…. ok, that was not about $$ and just about a funny thing that happened that I had forgotten about until now.
Seriously, being a grown up sucks. Why can’t we stay students forever?
June 13, 2012 at 2:41 pm #29835Come to San Francisco! Why? Because 1) I live there (here), 2) the weather is lovely right now, and 3) you just should, that’s why. I can come up with more reasons if you want.
June 14, 2012 at 7:07 pm #30049Update: I’m heading to San Diego! (Peru, Iceland, etc. will all have to wait for another day.) I have a bro in San Diego and several very cute but misbehaved nephews who need to see their auntie. Those fuckers are getting me to devote another vacation to them. Imma make them rub my feet.
June 14, 2012 at 7:08 pm #30051(So, Moneypenny, at least we’ll be in the same state! I’ll wave toward the north when I get there tomorrow.)
June 14, 2012 at 8:10 pm #30063Heyy, have fun in SD! I will tip my hat south tomorrow, to say hello from up north. Be sure to go jump in the ocean, as I wish I could do that around here.
Re: Nephews: I’m going to meet my week-old nephew on Saturday, up in Sacramento! I can’t wait to squeeze him and pinch his cheeks, auntie style.June 15, 2012 at 2:45 am #30078It’s been kinda cold near the water; bring a sweater! And/or jacket.
And I’ll be in Sacramento this weekend, too! At least, I think this weekend. The actual date of me going up hasn’t been decided just yet.June 15, 2012 at 10:45 am #30185Hey AP, your topic made me dream about my dream vacation! I would like to go to Tunisia, Croatia, Algiers, at least one country in Asia (can’t make up my mind! I want to go to so many!) and Socotra. NatGeo had some pics about Socotra island in one of their recent issues, and I’d like to go so bad! 90% of the species on the island are indigenous only to the island. It would be like going to the Moon or Mars, since you can’t see that anywhere else on Earth. *sigh*
There was an article about Tokelau on CNN yesterday. That’s another place I’d like to go to. It looks cute on google maps
