What: A DW picnic.
When: Saturday, June 1 – yes, three months from now! That gives everyone plenty of time to plan accordingly. 11 AM.
Where: Central Park, Sheep Meadow.
Who: Everyone!(Drew, Jackson and I will be there for sure).
What to bring: Some food and/or beverage for yourself (and enough to share if you like), a blanket or chair if you’ve got it, Bubbles, hula hoops, board games, badminton, whatever else you want.
Rain plan: TBD
Hmmm…my sister lives in NYC…I’m about 2-3 hours from there…maybe I need an excuse to get to the city that day…
Do it! Make a weekend of it!
I wanna come!
My best friend from college lives in Hoboken and I need to visit her. So maybe I’ll make it that weekend…
Dooo it KC! And AP, maybe you need a vacation too
(sorry, I am pretty excited. This has been a long time coming!)
Lets all go to NYC baby!
Yes, come AP, Come KC. Come, all!
Question: is 11 to early? I’m trying to work around Jackson’s afternoon nap so that he and Drew can come too. He generally sleeps 1-3 and it would take us an hour to get ourselves together and get to the park. Is 4 better? It’s three months away, so I figure we can nail down a time in the next few weeks. Feel free to cast a vote for either 11 AM or 4 PM. Either time is equally convenient for me and my fam. Oh, and if you have kids, feel free to bring them. Obviously, this is a family-friendly affair. So keep your potty mouths and dirty sex talks at home, you pervs (j/k. sort of).
Booze is welcome, though…
Oh wow, this would be awesome. I get star struck really bad. This probably sounds super weird but I really can’t imagine how I would act picnicing with you Wendy. I know, I’m a weirdo.
Count me in!
Oh, and keep the booze under cover; it’s prohibited in the park (but many still bring it).
@LBH I think I’m gonna be a bit star-struck as well & not know how to act…haha. But booze will help!
I don’t think 11 is too early, but that’s just me.
Yes, Max is right — booze is prohibited in the park, so if you bring it or drink it, just remember that you do so at your own risk. That said, I am a fan of prosecco.
I’m a fan of mimosas! And babies and dogs – so will everyone please bring your babies and dogs? I will be in heaven: DW crew, mimosas, summer, NYC, babies and dogs…. Does life get better? I will bring a pizza.
I might stash a pitcher in my bag.
A pitcher of babies?
Mmmm, mimosas are the best. I don’t know why I only will drink them for brunches.
I like the mimosas idea. Mimosas in June. In Central Park. Maybe with some bread and cheese and fruit salad and a chocolate torte. And a pitcher of babies on the side for Addie Pray.
I really, really dislike NYC, however, I would totally take a train into the city for this. It’s on the calendar!
lbh- You’re not the only one who’s going to be startstruck!
This sounds wonderful! Like AP, I am going to be traveling the weekend before – back from Amsterdam! But my brother is in the city and I DO owe him a visit, so I am going to try really hard to be there.
I like mimosas, but LOVE bloody marys, so that’s what I’ll bring.
If I come, which I really, really hope to!
YES. I will totally be there!! I already wrote it in all caps in my calendar. I love Central Park picnics!
Let’s have a rule whereby to be admitted to the meetup you must bring a baby, a dog, or a drink!
haha AP, I will bring a drink! I have no babies or dogs to my name.
Mimosas sound awesome, but I’ll probably bring some kind of wine…maybe prosecco for Wendy ?
Also, NJ trains let you drink on them. Is this only an Jersey thing? I don’t know. I’ve had a glass of wine already. But if anyone is trainin’ it & transfers somewhere in Jersey, maybe it’ll be the same line I’m on? That would be cool.
D’awww. That sounds fun! I wish I could go.
I want to go! But instead, I’ll be in the Dominican Republic, which is almost as good.
Well, Wendy, if your mom gets furloughed because of this stupid sequester we just might show up too. It would be a very slim chance, but you never know. And AP, we’d be there with our baby, but Wendy hasn’t been a baby for a few years. But she’s not the baby of the family either.
Wendy’s Dad, you guys come with Aunt Allison, your baby.
Fabelle, you can drink on CT trains. Some even have bar cars!
I’m excited for this picnic! I will probably also bring drinks. Mimosas sound like a good idea – and a great way to sneakily drink booze – it’s just juice, I swear!
Hmmm, no babies or dogs, so how I guess I’ll have to smuggle in a drink. Or how about if I bring a treat with the booze cooked right in? I can make a mean derby pie with bourbon
Now to figure out the best way to do a same day run from DC to NYC….
Amtrak! That’s what I’m doing.
Hey, Ladybug, check these out:
Peter Pan Bus: About $23 round trip, 4-5 hours trip, no transfer.
Amtrak: About $260 round trip, 3-4 hours trip, no transfer.
Greyhound: About $66 round trip, 6 hours trip. (no buses during AM hours (?!?!?)).
Another idea is to drive to Princeton Junction, NJ, park the car for the day (about $5), and jump on the NJ Transit train into Penn Station: About $30 round trip, and less than 2 hours trip.
All of these go to Penn Station; from there, jump on the subway to the park. I don’t know how much; the fares went up yesterday, again, and I haven’t check them out yet, but probably less than $10 round trip (from the park back to Penn).
Addie, where did I read you were going to napa the weekend before? There’s a good change I will be there too. I can’t even begin to imagine an Addie Pray Double Header.
So I might have an online shopping addiction, but today I bought three things meant to make drinking outside easier and I think they’ll be perfect for our central park picnic (not that we’d drinking, or anything illegal like that)!
We can drink & eat with this: http://www.zulily.com/p/oenophilia-picnic-wine-table-set-30123-2671972.html?pos=46&e=1&
This will keep our not-wine and not wine glasses dirt free: http://www.zulily.com/p/oenophilia-steel-wine-glass-bottle-stake-set–30123-1534804.html?pos=27&e=1&
And this will keep our not-wine nice and chilled on that warm summer day: http://www.zulily.com/p/chill-decanter-30123-3236558.html?pos=432&e=1&page=2
I like the way you think!
I am so excited about this meet up that I already have a “what to bring” list posted on my fridge. Mimosas and salted caramel brownies are the at the top of the list.
How did I not see this?! I may need to go visit my parents in Westchester that weekend!
I love how we’ll all basically have to do “road sodas” again! Like college times!
Damn! I just moved out of NYC in January! Maybe we can make a San Diego picnic when the weather in the north is gross again?! (or is it gross still? – I’m so disconnected from real weather now)
You guyz, there’s a chance I might not be able to make it on June 1! I may have to fly to Missouri for a surprise party … If I can’t make it, will someone hug Jackson and the basket of babies or me??
I might not be able to make it either
I forgot that I am going to a concert that night. I might try to make it to both, but we’ll see.
Awwww, you guys
I feel betrayed.
But it’s Of Monsters and Men! At least they are awesome!
Ok, fine, I’ll sleep on the train home, and maybe nap in my office once I get back to Philly, before the concert. I can seriously be talked into anything.
Ok, I’m dumb. Concert is the 8th. I’m totally in for the meetup.
bethany, you have to go. i’m actively trying to get this surprise party RESCHEDULED on account of this muy importante meetup. but i am but one small person (ok, average-sized) and can only be so persuasive! ….but i’m working on it.
AP change that party! You have enough verve to convince everybody
and i’d just like to point it that this lil’ missouri surprise party involves coordinating with people flying in from NYC and San Fran. so…. basically, if i make it to the NYC meetup on June 1, you all have to let me hug and kiss your babies’ faces off and drink all your red wine. (sounds fair, right?)
oh and i want to keep one of your babies.
and i want to have a Standing Bow-off with bethany.
imma gonna standing bow bethany’s ass! (just as soon as i reschedule this surprise party. stay tuned. and, bethany, it wouldn’t hurt if you started practicing your standing bow a bit. mwahahaha.)
you know, there comes a point in the afternoon where i just lose it. and i get evil. and i cannot concentrate. if i had my way, my working day would be from 5 am to 1 pm. it just makes the most sense, from a productivity stand point.
I will give you boxed white wine and a baby.
W H I T E?! I thought we were friends.
I’ll Standing Bow your face off.
I’m going to start texting you threatening Standing Bow pictures.
I’m going to practice extra hard tonight Speaking of Bikram- When I’m in Nashville next week should I go to the Nashville Studio or Cool Springs? Both are close to my brother’s house.
1. It’s so on!
2. I’m going to class tonight and *I* am going to practice extra hard FIRST!
3. Go to the Nashville studio. It’s bigger and has showers. The Cool Springs is a) hard to find, and b) super tiny, and c) has no showers.
Wait @LBH, you’re coming?? Somehow I missed that, yay!
I haven’t decided yet what to bring. Probably some red wine in a bottle of Vitamin Water XXX (because that was my sneaky trick back in the day). I will give you some, AP! Maybe I’ll even bring an extra…if you comeee
Ha, booze in water bottles. You missed it because I haven’t committed yet. I have commitment issues. First, I’m scared of being starstruck by Wendy, and lets be honest, all of you. Plus no one knows about LBH in my real life, so I’d have to sneak away/lie. Advice?
Going into the city to meet a friend for Brunch.
Lbh, I have a feeling some people may be star struck meeting YOU!
This sounds so exciting. I wish I could go.
June is far away from now. Sort of. Maybe I can swing it. My mom has been wanting to take a NY trip…
Wendy, I’m blushing! Anyone else bringing babies or children? I know Jack will be there. I’m thinking of bringing Little LBH. I have gained a little social anxiety as I’ve aged, so its always nice to have her with me.
Someone talk me into needing this for the picnic! http://www.katespade.com/pack-a-picnic-wine-tote/PXRU4178,en_US,pd.html
Totally overpriced, and the compartments aren’t even “cooler” compartments! Not worth it. Sorry
LBH that’s adorable. And red wine doesn’t need to be chilled!
I’m sure I’ll get “star-struck” as well, haha. And I also get socially anxious, so I’m already worrying about coming off like a giant awkward weirdo.
Dammit. Another good point. I prefer red wine. Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one with nerves like that!
I get social anxiety too, if it makes y’all feel better. Wine helps. As does remembering that most people are nice.
I don’t get social anxiety. At least I don’t think so. So here’s what I’ll do: when everyone shows up, I will either trip and fall on my face, let out a big fart on accident, or show up with a HUGE RED ZIT on the tip of my nose – everyone will immediately feel much more relaxed, and in general better about themselves, ok? This is if I can go. I’m working on it.
I will not, however, let bethany win the standing bow-off.
I’m still undecided if I’ll go. If my best friend from college agrees I can stay at her place in Hoboken that will help. Then I’ll need my bf to watch my dog. Then I’ll have to tell him about DW, and he’ll be all “you’re meeting people off the interwebs!?”. *sigh* And I think I’ll take the bus up since that is cheapest (why is the train from DC to NYC weirdly expensive? If I go to freaking NC from DC it’s like dirt cheap). Someone convince me to go.
@AP don’t even joke about the zit thing. I get stress pimples and I can almost bet I would get one before the DW picnic.
if i fly all the way in, you have to go! it’s really in your best interest because the truth is I am Ryan Gosling.
AP, I wouldn’t want you to let me win. I’m going to beat you while you’re trying your hardest Victory will be mine!
Everyone better come! I’m not socially awkward, so I’ll make you all feel right at home. And then I’ll show you too many pictures of my cats.
Have we decided whether this is an 11am or 4pm thing?
I thought it was 11am?
Ok thats what I thought but Wendy asked if 11am was too early so I was wondering if we had come to a consensus. I’m fine with either.
I want to go. Booooo. I’ll be back in FL already.
Aww, I wish I could come. If I could afford the flight I would so be there with wine. But unless one of you guys is secretly rich and wants to go without a designer purse this month in order to pay for my flights that just isn’t going to happen. But seriously, secret-rich-person, I would let you hold my son or I would show you my boobs for the flight tickets. Who am I kidding? I would do both!
Wendy, you need this! (hope link works)
That is awesome.
If anyone cares, I’m like 99 percent sure I’m coming. I’ll be staying with my college roommate who lives in Hoboken and my boyfriend can watch my dog. Now I just need to make sure I have enough money for the trip. 2 questions. How should I get from penn station to central park (where are we meeting in the park?) and what’s the best way to get from central park to Hoboken? I COULD take buses, but I’m a little scared of buses in new cities (although I figured out the bus system in Marseille, France so I guess I can do anything).
Look into the PATH train.
Kerry, we’ll be meeting in Sheep Meadow in Central Park. If you go to Google Maps, and map directions between Penn Station, 7th Avenue, New York, NY and Sheep Meadow, Central Park, you’ll get several easy routes. I’d go with the first one, which is:
1. Walk to 34 St – Penn Station
2. Take the 1 Subway towards Van Cortlandt Park – 242 St
3. Get off at 59 St – Columbus Circle (5 mins, 3 stops)
4. Walk to Sheep Meadow (0.4 miles)
5. Arrive at Sheep Meadow
W 67th St
New York, NY 10023
It’s very easy. Once you get off the subway at 59th street, Central Park is directly across the street and even if you don’t know exactly where sheep meadow is (though if you have an iPhone, just look it up on your map app), almost anyone in the park could point you in the right direction.
I’ve never been to Hoboken, so I’m not as certain the best way to get there from Central Park. I think you’d just take the C subway to 42nd street and get on the PATH bus toward Hoboken, but why not ask your friend you’re staying with?
Kerry- I’m going to walk to the park from Penn Station. My train gets in at 10:49 (so I’ll be fashionably late).
If anyone wants to meet at Penn Station and walk together, let me know!
Thanks for the directions, Wendy! That seems easy enough. I’m sure I’ll be fine, and even if I get a little lost it’s seriously not a big deal. I just over-plan these sorts of things. I think I’ll take the subway. I’ve never taken the NYC subway! Maybe I can convince @Christy to come with me and we can make the adventure together.
@kerrycontrary yayy! Also, I second that PATH suggestion although I forget exactly where the train is (even though I go to Hoboken all the time, I think we only took the train in once. It’s by Lana lounge, maybe? I think I remember it being a short walk from there, NOT THAT THIS HELPS, haha. Your friend will probably know better!)
and @bethany longer answer: I’d been planning to walk myself, because I’m still afraid of & don’t know how to use the subway. If I felt lazy, I was gonna hail a cab. But I’m totally down to walk with you I haven’t planned my train, but I’ll try to time it.
Kerry, you’re taking the train rather than the bus? How come/what’s the price?
FYI: it’s a bit of a hike — over 30 blocks — from Penn Station to our meeting spot in the park. If you’re afraid of the subway — and, really, there’s no reason to be afraid in a touristy section of Manhattan in the middle of the day! — I’d suggest taking a cab over walking, unless you’re walking simply to see some of the city (and even then, the stretch between Penn Station and Central Park is kind of ugh. Not ugh in a scary way, but ugh in an ugly way).
@Christy, no idea, I thought it would be fun. But now I realize I may not be able to get to union station at 6am because the metro isn’t running then. Maybe I’ll take the Vamoose from Bethesda. Train is $49 each way, really early both days. Bus is $30 each way. I’m not afraid of the subway in safety terms, I’m more afraid of getting lost hahah.
That said, the walk from Penn Station is a mile and a half, so totally doable if you want to walk. But if you don’t, I just wanted to reiterate that the subway really isn’t scary and is actually kind of thrilling if you’ve never taken it before.
@Wendy yeah I know, but I did it once before when I wasn’t trying to get anywhere in a hurry (& the weather was nice). If it’s too hot or gross, probably will get a cab (which I anticipated doing about halfway through anyway, haha)
And I’m more afraid of, like, navigating the subway…I’ve taken it no problem as long as other people were there that knew where they were going. But maybe I should try it, now that I have clear directions in front of me
The first time I ever rode the subway in NYC, I was alone. It’s not really that hard to figure out.
@Kerry @Christy, I’m planning to take the train from DC just bc it seems like the best option for a there and back on the same day trip and the safest bet for getting there on time. I’ll probably drive to Union Station, so if either of you (or anyone else in DC or NOVA) would like to carpool there just let me know.
@Ladybug awesome! Christy and I would be living in the same neighborhood at the time so we could all carpool. Are you going to take the 6:20am train? I’ll be coming back on Sunday but that’s fine I can just metro home. Christy told me parking is free on capital hill on the weekends so we can just park on the street. Email me at kschork87 at gmail.
I’m kinda new here, been lurking for months but just joined a couple days ago, but I’d really like to come if I can talk my husband into taking the day offa work to come with me. Taking the train from Trenton – NYC by myself would make me panic a bit.
Wow, this is getting exciting!! Even lurkers are joining. How fun!
AP- Did you ever officially decide if you were coming??
Well, I got the surprise party moved to May 11, success! But now every one of my weekends in May are booked, plus the second weekend in June, so I may stay put that first weekend in June, …. I dunno.
(whaaa, did i just say that?!)
but AP seriously, no, COME. We will put mad pictures up on FB and Wendy will probably make a post or something with more pictures & everyone will say what a good time it was & then you will be (if you missed out) (This is a good argument, right?)
I am moving to Boston next week (from Michigan), so I will be close enough now that it’s doable! I don’t know how comfortable and settled in I’ll feel to be travelling then, but my husband will be away at a bachelor party weekend, so it’d be good timing! I will look into the train and see how complicated it’d be.
Addie – go for me. I can’t go. I have prior commitments (3 Barons Ren Fair). So, one of us has to be the hot bottle of awesomesauce there
I just booked my train ticket! I’m just going up for Saturday. Kerry, I’m taking the same morning train as you are.
I’m so excited you guys.
Can we all wear “hello, my name is ______” name tags with our DW names?
What time are we meeting? Anyone want to join me and a friend on a Ehere’s Waldo scavenger hunt through NYC after?
Tell me more Karen.
Train is booked!!
I get into Penn Station at 10:49, so I’ll be a little late.
I’ll be wearing a cat-sized pirate hat so you know who I am.
@Karen, we’re meeting at 11. In sheep meadow. I’ll try to get there a little early to secure a spot and I should be easy to spot since everyone knows what I look like as well as Drew and Jackson. And I will update this thread with an exact location on the meadow once we get there. Just 2 1/2 more weeks!
AP- You in or out?
LBH- You’re coming, right?
2 weeks! Yay!
Guys, I’m bringing home made treats; brownies or cookies? PLUS a jug OJ to make mimosas.
Either brownies or cookies sound great.
I will bring some prosecco for mimosas. And I’ll bring cups and plates and napkins and utensils. If I can get my act together, I will also bring some sort of homemade breakfast casserole. If I can’t get my act together, I’ll pick up a couple baguettes and cheese.
Fruit would be great if someone wants to bring some. Salad. Bottled water to share. And more prosecco and OJ!
I’ll have to figure out what Christy and I can bring between the two of us, possibly fruit. Do we have a rain contingency plan? I mean conceivably we can all meet up in a restaurant, no big deal.
Kerry, I was planning on making my Moroccan couscous–it doesn’t need to be refrigerated or reheated. I have to procure a big disposable container to transport it, but it’s a super-simple dish. I ate it for lunch today, actually.
That sounds awesome! I saw a good recipe for a tomato/basil/garbanzo bean salad the other day so maybe I’ll do something like that. Also, who’s the asshole who didn’t buy her train ticket before the price went up? That would be me. Looks like I’m taking the bus back to DC on Sunday *sigh*
I’ll be bringing some wine for sure! Not sure about food, since I’m taking the train up there.
A rain plan is a great idea– Maybe a restaurant nearby?
Yay, it’s coming up so soon! I’m definitely bringing wine—not sure what else. Maybe some kind of dip?
@bethany I’m gonna try & time my arrival around the time you’ll be there, if that’s cool (I know you said you were looking for people to walk/subway/cab with). Not buying my ticket ahead of time, though…I usually just get it at the station. On a Saturday, I think there’s a train to Penn Station every hour?
I’m excited to meet everybody!!
Fab- I’m going to FB you my #!
I think I want to come in that day now…wasn’t going to go, but did some thinking and I’m off Saturdays, so it should be fun. I need to Facebook some of you though or do e-mail exchanges before we go!
i’m so sorry i’m not coming. i know, i suck. i’m just exhausted.
I do, Fabelle, but I don’t know who’s who on real names and stuff! Only the obvious ones (i.e. people who already use their real names to post here.)
Okay, I’m gonna ‘like’ Wendy’s most recent post (“Final gift guide of wedding week”) so you can see me/know who I am! (And then all of our mutual friends are going to be DWers as well)
Also, when you see it, friend me (obviously) & then I’ll know who you are! (this is how, I believe it was, MaterialsGirl? inducted me into the FB frenzy, haha)
I know I am more of a lurker than a poster but I am coming to the picnic with a fellow lurker!
Maybe we should start a list of what people are bringing? I mean, of course, bring whatever you’d like, but it might be helpful for some people to know what will be brought by others. For those traveling, maybe it would be easiest to bring something to drink that you can grab on your way — water, OJ and/or prosecco for mimosas, juice, wine, etc. There’s a Whole Foods in the Time Warner bldg. near the southwest entrance to the park, about a ten minute walk from our meeting spot, where you can get just about anything, including juice, salad, fruit, cheese, and bread, which would all be great at a picnic.
I’m going to try to make a breakfast casserole, but depending on how many people come, I don’t know how far it will go. I’ll also try to bring prosecco and a pitcher to mix mimosas, as well as some plates, cups, napkins and utensils.
And, next week, when we have an idea what the weather will be like on Saturday, I’ll come up with a rain plan if need be. But let’s hope it’s not necessary!
I’ve got two picnic blankets, a few dozens of chocolate cookies, and could make something else instead of bringing more OJ, if someone else rather pick up the juice on their way. I have some extra paper plates and a roll of paper towels I can also add to the pile.
I’ve been picturing myself this whole time skipping to the park with a picnic basket full of homemade treats, but let’s be real, I can probably only manage maybe one thing…I’m thinking some kind of cold dip + tortilla or pita chips? (Ooh, maybe I’ll make hummus??)
Also, definitely bringing wine. Red & some prosecco also, I’m thinking? (also, is everyone just bringing whole bottles or are we being sneaky? I remember someone saying early in the thread that drinking wasn’t allowed in the park, but I don’t wanna be the ass with wine in plastic containers while everyone else has bottles, ha)
You guys, bad news…I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to come now. It turns out everything in my life decided to happen on June 1, and I am only one person, so I need to pick somewhere to be. Plus, my job needs someone to work at night that day and I have to come to NYC for the day (which also makes it difficult for me to bring ANYTHING that won’t be a pain to lug around the rest of the day). Apparently, I have to choose between the DW picnic, a Zumbathon at home (I want to teach, so I think maybe I should go?), a volunteer orientation for a position I applied for months ago and work. Why can’t we clone ourselves yet? Now I’m sad.
Oh, forgot to mention that my volunteer orientation is in NYC, so it’s like I could be at the meetup but not really because I have to go all the way out to Queens. This is such a bummer.
I wish I was in NYC so I could go to this! I hope everyone has fun and that the weather is great!
Yeah…definitely can’t come now. Other plans got in the way, and I have to try to chip in at work to look good since I’m still the newest member of my team. Sorry guys…maybe next NYC meetup I won’t have so much going on!
Right now, the forecast for next Saturday is 85 degrees and mostly sunny — perfect for a picnic. Let’s hope it stays that way!
So…I’m going to pick something up at Whole Foods on the way from Union Station. I’m not sure what but I promise I’ll bring something useful!
Oops, meant Penn Station. Union Station is DC
I was going to bring something “Philly” like soft pretzels, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to get any fresh ones before my train in the morning, so who knows what kind of food I’ll bring. But I will be bringing wine. You can count on that!
Kerry- What time does your train get into Penn Station? Mine is like 10:45 or something.
I think mine is 9:45ish? I’ll be with Christy (we live in the same neighborhood) and Ladybug (if Christy and I can find Ladybug).
I should be there. And I will bring something so far undetermined.
I finally viewed the train schedule—I can take the 9:52 to get there by 10:41 & meet up with Bethany (& whoever else) So the day of, I’ll call/text you @bethany to let you know I’m on track to arrive at the same time!
So excited Also, I changed my mind & think I’m gonna try to make french toast cookies? (I saw them on Pinterest…haha) The only thing I need to do is plan my outfit, because I’m lame like that.
I think I’m going to wear a blue Maxi dress. Also, I’ll be wearing sneakers with my dress until we get to the park- I hate city grime on my feet. Please don’t judge me.
Fab- I was thinking due to heat we should take the subway to the park. I’ve already figured out the route and stuff, so you won’t need to do it alone!
yeh I’m going to be a sneakers with dress person as well! It’s mostly because I hate having my feet/back hurt. And I’m probably going to walk a lot that day.
haha okay, awesome! & yeah, I completely wilt in the heat, so subway is a better idea than walking.
& probably going to go the dress route too. I have one pair of comfy flats, but they’re enclosed? So bare feet/enclosed shoes…not a good idea. You guys may not be alone with your sneakers & dresses!
I’m bringing flip flops- but only wearing them once we get to the park.
I’ve had a work thing come up at the last minute, so no picnic for me . Drink a few mimosas for me everyone!
I am so sad, I can’t make it! But it’s for a fantastic reason – I am moving in with my boyfriend! We are so excited. So while I would have loved the opportunity to meet some of you face-to-face, I will have to wait until next time.
Enjoy the beautiful day and each other!
It’s tomorrow!! Ahh!
I tried making “french toast cookies” last night to bring, & since I’m a compulsive recipe tweaker, they came out more like little cakes? so I turned them into whoopie pies. They’ll probably get all smushed & there’s only like 7 or 8 of them, but that’s what I’m bringing (dessert, I guess??)
I’m probably going to be bringing some veggies & dip, TastyKakes (to rep Philly pride) and whatever else strikes my fancy while I’m at the store. Oh yeah, and Booze. Should I bring some Red Solo Cups?
On my list to bring:
2 picnic blankets,
Couple of trash bags,
Orange Juice (and wine)
maybe a savory dish or home made flat bread or cheese crackers
Anyone bringing cups for the mimosas?
I’m bringing vegetarian Moroccan couscous (a TON of it) and a picnic blanket.
Is anyone bringing plates/bowls or utensils?
I will bring a bunch of plasticware, cause I have a ton of it at home. If I have room in my bag I’ll bring some plates.
I’ll bring cups, plates, utensils and napkins. Since it will be very hot, I decided to forgo breakfast casserole and make a salad instead — farro salad and/or caress orzo salad. Is anyone bringing prose co for mimosas? I can if no one else is, otherwise I will bring OJ.
I just picked up a purple helium balloon that I will bring tomorrow to help mark our spot. Look for the purple balloon!
It seems like we need fruit so that’s what I’ll try to pick up at Whole Foods on the way there. Or more drinks. Or bread. Maybe I’ll forgo the cheese due to the heat. And I might bring a sunhat since it’s going to be a million degrees.
I am bringing a bottle of Chardonnay.
Sounds like so much fun – sorry I’ll miss it!
I was planning to do red wine in an xxx vitamin water bottle for myself (I’m classy) & then bring the prosecco for mimosas? Is there any particular kind I should get, or is anything that says “prosecco” good?
Bread is definitely a good idea, I think. And water, so we don’t dehydrate with all the booze, sunlight, & heat! I still think maybe I’ll get hummus & pita chips? It depends on what fits into the bag I’m planning to bring.
Is there anything needed that hasn’t been claimed yet? I’ll bring something regardless, but I just wanted to check if there was something specific.
Get whatever prosecco you like — when it’s mixed with OJ, it doesn’t matter too much what kind it is.
Lindsay, I think we could always use more water, procecco or wine, bread, and fruit. Take your pick.
I’ll bring bread. And possibly some mini bottles of water that I have hanging out at my apartment. Only if everyone promises to drink them so I don’t have to carry them around the city…
I will drink them!
also, if anyone cares, I think I’m going to be wearing a gray & white, kinda short, kinda flouncy dress? It’s going to be HOT & I’m not playing with that shit!
I think I’m gonna wear a blue maxi dress. But I might wear a green tank top and blue skirt. We’ll see how I feel in the morning.
And i will drink your bottled water, Lindsay!
I’m here! Look for us in the shade near the cafe on the northwest side of sheep meadow. I have a purple balloon.
I hope you guys all have a great meetup. I wish I could be there but the missus and will be be enjoying a pleasant Saskatoon day working in the back yard, followed by a patio party with some good friends this evening!
A toast to all of you, and to Wendy for being the catalyst!
I just got home from the meetup! It was lovely meeting other DWers in person, & having a nice day outside Thank you Wendy, & all who cooperated to arrange things (which is all of us, really)
Did Wendy spill any secrets?
Did you talk about me at all?
Did anyone challenge Bethany to a standing bow-off?
Did anyone get drunk and say something inappropriate?
Did Wendy let you kiss Jackson’s face off? I would’ve at least tried.
Did anyone kiss Drew’s face off?
Also: did anyone fight?
Did you talk about weddings?
Did someone turn out to be a dirty old man?
Come on you’re killing me!
Please answer AP’s questions! I’m dying to know how the picnic was too.
Well, I don’t think Bethany was challenged to a standing bow-off (I left before she did so maybe that happened when I was gone), but we did get to see Christy’s nude color bicycle shorts under her dress. And Max made some awesome cookies and cheese crackers and rosemary flatbread (she also brought bubbles for jackson, which won her some big brownie points). Jackson had to high tail it out after about an hour because he had a hot date with his crib. Everyone was really lovely and the food was delish. i got a little tipsy. Did anyone else? Addie Pray, we talked about you. We wondered where LBH was. Where were you, LBH??
After Wendy left I did the best standing bow anyone has ever seen. Not. I was wearing a dress, and I haven’t been to yoga in 2 weeks!!!
For those at the meet up– I met up with my friend after and it was awesome. It went better than I could have even imagined. So Wendy, thank you for giving me a reason to be in the city and recconnect with her!!
it was so great to meet you all! Looking forward to next year!
Oh, and yes, we talked about you
Bethany! You gotta get to Bikram. I went this afternoon with a splint on my broken finger — it’s B R O K E N I said! – and you’d be surprised how many poses require you to use your ring finger – a lot.
Lets plan another picnic – i will come!
So fun. In pain now–sunburned and sore and happy
This was great, you guys.
You better come next time, AP!
& @bethany I was digging through my purse today while with my boyfriend, & I went, “Oh, shit—I still have a Tastykake.” He snatched it out of my hand, correctly identified it (“That’s a butterscotch krimpet!”) & squirrled it away somewhere, haha. So somebody knows what they are & enjoys them! Just thought I’d tell you
mmm butterscotch krimpets…
I’m glad you all had fun! Are there any pictures of the meetup!? (she asked, worried she’d sound like a creep.)
I want to hear and see all about it. Pics!
I’ve seen two! Check out Dear Wendy on Facebook.
I definitely enjoyed the picnic and was excited to meet everybody! Unfortunately, shortly after I got off the train after everyone had gone their separate ways, my flip-flip broke and I had to walk myself one-shoed to an Old Navy. Glad I could keep it together through the picnic, though.
Also I’m glad you guys had fun! I’m jealous. Maybe if there is a 2nd annual next year, my life will be less of a mess and I’ll make it out there.
The Picnic was so fun! I feel bad I had to leave at 1, but I had an awesome time with my college roommate that afternoon. Christy and I were so tired on the train ride back, but the trip was totally worth it. And Jackson is just as cute as you expect him to be. Maybe cuter.
Fab- I love that!! I’m glad he enjoyed it! I tried to pass a few off to my friend after I left you guys and her boyfriend was like “omg is that a Krimpet?!” So I gave him one, too!
I’m happy to have finally met you all!! It was fun to take a day trip to the city for a reason other than sightseeing!
I missed it. So bummed.
It was great meeting everyone!
Now I have faces to go along with the names.
@Addie: Jackson talked to me for a minute or two! I have no clue what he said though; probably asking to hurry up with the bubbles, or give him a cookie.
