So, some of you may remember that I had an interview 2 weeks ago Thursday and then a second interview last Thursday. I found out on Friday that they were conducting my background check (I’d be working with a police department so its kinda necessary) and they have called at least 3 of my references today (my supervisors from both of my jobs plus one more). I am getting really, really excited because generally in government jobs they don’t check references or even put in the money or legwork for a background unless they plan to offer a job. Someone please talk me down!
June 18, 2012 at 12:45 pm #30547Sorry, I can’t talk you down, honeybee- because generally, you are awesome and amazing. I’m rooting for you!!
June 18, 2012 at 12:57 pm #30551hehe, i agree! be excited! dont think you have the job, but be excited that they are taking next steps in the process. it is a positive thing!! yay!
June 18, 2012 at 1:00 pm #30552I agree with callmehobo and katie! Keep us updated!!!
June 18, 2012 at 1:08 pm #30554That’s great, honeybee! I hope you get good news soon!
June 18, 2012 at 1:29 pm #30558Honeybee, you don’t “have” the [government] job until you’ve sat in the chair for 366 days, so calm down.
(there does that help?)
June 18, 2012 at 1:33 pm #30559That helps Brad thanks
The one thing really getting me excited is that last year I applied for and interviewed for this EXACT position, including a second interview. I didn’t get it that time (obviously) and they didn’t call my references or do a background check so now that they’re doing it this time I’m getting a bit excited. I’ve decided the way I’m putting in my two weeks notice if they do offer it is with a cake that says “I QUIT”.
Government jobs are a mess. I’ve worked for the state for over 3 years, but this one is a city level job with better pay/benefits/raises (any raises are better than pay cuts, which is what I currently get regularly). June 18, 2012 at 3:57 pm #30584I dunno Brad, my City job only had a 6mo probation… 3.25 mo to go…
June 18, 2012 at 4:29 pm #30586That is great news honeybeenicki! I’m sending good luck your way! Let us know.
June 18, 2012 at 5:45 pm #30596This doesn’t surprise me at all because you rock =)
June 18, 2012 at 10:33 pm #30633THREE YEARS OF PROBATION. THREE FUCKING YEARS. I hate you all.
Except for you, honeybeenicki. You rock. Any time frame on when you hear back? If you really want calming down, the first “government” job offer I got (teaching school, of course) was rescinded because they restructured the job to include teaching something that I’m not qualified to teach. So, you know, till your ass is in that desk chair…
(Also, I don’t hate you all. I actually adore you all. I’m just a bitter teacher).
June 18, 2012 at 10:53 pm #30634When they hate you and are definitely not giving you an offer, they *always* conduct background checks anyway as a matter of je ne sais quoi, so don’t get your hopes up.
[How was that?]
June 18, 2012 at 11:42 pm #30640If you get this Govt job can you do me a favor? See if “they” have a file on me and what’s in it.
June 19, 2012 at 7:48 am #30645@Addie Pray – That was actually the best I’ve seen/heard. Very helpful, thank you

@McLovin – I can check at my current gov’t job, but since I work only with employment data that probably won’t help. At the one I’m waiting on, I’ll work with municipal citations and parking tickets so I can check to see if you have a Parking Wars kinda problem going on?As of yesterday, they have called 4 references and called me to verify some info for my background check. When I answered the phone and the guy said “This is Detective such-and-such from the Madison Police Department…” the first thing that went through my head was “What the hell did I do that requires a DETECTIVE?!” but then he said he was doing my background.
June 19, 2012 at 8:15 am #30646I told you that “thing” (you know what I’m talking about) from spring break was going to come back to haunt you some day honey, but you didn’t believe me…
