Does anyone know how to go about selling a cookie recipe? I created my own cookie recipe and handed it out to everyone at work and just anyone willing to try it and it was well liked by everyone. A friend of mine suggested I sell the recipe but how do I go about doing that?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.June 22, 2012 at 4:01 pm #31214Haha, talk to Katie, who makes cookies for a living
June 22, 2012 at 4:03 pm #31215I think it’s hard to since individual recipes can’t be copyrighted, but selling a small book of recipes might be easier perhaps.

June 22, 2012 at 7:55 pm #31241haha, i make cookies for another company for a living…
i have absolutely no idea how you would go about selling a recipe. like kristina said, they cant really be copyrighted. i mean, maybe, you can keep it a secret, you can use the word “proprietary” when you talk about how you make it, but once you tell someone about it, thats the end, you know? i actually know the secret to hot pockets because of that- someone who worked there told someone else who told me, lol. but yea, i have heard about chefs who refuse to ever write recipes down because they know that if someone gets ahold of it, there done… one of my classmates actually did her externship with a chef like that (she had been told she was being published and was actually not credited at all for her own work, so she stopped giving any recipes to anyone ever), and it really sucked because for our externship we had to a whole manual and one of the projects was showing what you made, how you made it, costs, ect.. and my friend just had to make up all the amounts because she actually had no idea! some people are crazy…
i guess i would say to send it into a magazine! i have no idea if any of them pay money for recipes, but you could be published! and i have to be honest with you, there are like zillion cookie recipes, so i dont think they will pay you a lot of money if they will give you any.
but hey! its always worth a shot. you could always email and ask, right?
you wanna give it to me? ill pitch it to my company and name it after you! lol… can i at least know what the flavors are? im super curious now lol
June 22, 2012 at 8:03 pm #31242oh, and yes, if you have any itch to KEEP creating recipes, keep them all safe and try to pitch a cookbook!
June 22, 2012 at 10:31 pm #31253I don’t mind posting it. Plus Katie I would love to have a cookie named after me. I think i’m just going to keep it as a family recipe and pass it down. I’ll post the recipe later when i’m of work.
June 22, 2012 at 10:39 pm #31258reminds me of Phoebe’s grandmother’s secret chocolate chip cookie rep ice. Remember, Nestle Tollhouse (said with a german accent)? Hee hee.
Katie, can you bring me a cookie? I”m home now.
June 22, 2012 at 10:44 pm #31263Haha I love Phoebe.

June 28, 2012 at 6:19 pm #32183Late to the best thread ever. Katie, I’ll pay you $8,000 for the hot pockets recipe. Or $8 whichever you prefer.
How the hell have you not broadcasted that you make cookies for a living. I better never find you complaining about work! Awesome. -
