Does anyone watch wrestling? I can’t be the only one right? right??

I know it’s fake and really cheesy, but we like watching because it’s so funny. And it’s kind of a nostalgia thing, I used to watch Saturday mornings when I was a kid. Same with Star Trek, I can’t help but watch when I see Star Trek TNG running on TV.

My husband watches wrestling every Monday night. I can’t really get into it but he loves it. I’ll watch a bit every now and then. I always wonder – do they have like a “safe” word or something if they get hurt for real? I mean I know its fake but some of the moves have still gotta sting sometimes!

one of the guys, Mankind, wrote a book! real name is Mick Foley, and he talks about injuries etc..does not sound fun to me.. I didnt get through the whole thing when I had it, but it got very good reviews, as he can actually write.

and yes, i have a jeopardy brain. i suck up useless facts that really dont mean anything, but i remember them..

The last time I watched was when whats-his-bucket (Butterbean?) fell from the ceiling during a Pay-Per-View match in the summer of 1999 and died. I was living in my 1st apartment with my roommate, who was a wrestling fanatic. I’m talking, she HAD to be home for every damned wrestling match. She knew the names (stage and real), stats, spouses, kids, etc of everyone. It was weird. If she had put that much energy into her health, she wouldn’t have been 350lbs at 19 and whining about her weight.

I can remember seeing the fall, and then the screen blacking out as they cut out. My roommate freaking out. Her changing channels to try to figure out what was going on. Her tears at the fact that he probably was dead. Tears that he’d died. Getting so wrapped up in his death when she’d never actually known him. After that, during her wrestling shows, if I was home, I’d go in our shared room (we had a 1 bedroom apt) and read a book. Or go for a walk. Anything to avoid watching it.
My oldest son like wrestling, but he tries moves on his brothers, so we don’t let him watch.

It’s a guy thing, I think. I can remember baby-sitting for boys and we watched the Three Stooges on TBS as a marathon and within 30 minutes, they were outside in the snow trying the sight gags.

It wasn’t butterbean, it was Owen Hart. I haven’t watched it in about 2 years, but we did go and see a live taping 2 or 3 years ago. The live taping was actually pretty cool.

I used to follow it heavily in junior high and high school. My manager and I used to watch it quite often about 2 or 3 years ago, and then life took over again, and we haven’t tuned back in since. You can miss a couple years and get caught back up pretty quickly. Much like soaps during the day.

Whoever it was – I saw it, and that was it. Didn’t care because I wasn’t invested in it. I saw how the uberfans were and couldn’t understand.

It’s like the movie ‘Titanic’. People watch, knowing the outcome, and still cry at the end of the freaking movie as if they weren’t expecting people to die. I about flipped my lid when I saw a commercial for ‘Titanic’ last night. If my mom suggests we go, I swear I’m tattooing “dumbass” on her forehead. She made me sit in the theater 7 times with her. She said I’d have to see it until I cried. I still haven’t cried (unless wails and moans of boredom count, she says no), but I embarassed her enough with my Mystery Science Theater 3000 commentary and cheers for the ship that she stopped taking me. And hasn’t been to a movie with me since.

It’s the sappy love story that makes people cry. I’m not a fan of titanic and I’ve only seen it once. My mom dragged me to watch it in junior high.

I was in jr. high too! My mom wanted me to be “more girly”. So, I kept getting dragged to the theater every weekend with her so she could try to get me to cry at the movie, as if I was just holding out on her or something. No, I seriously didn’t like it, didn’t like the premise of the “love story” (honestly, I would have loved to know more about the supposed mummy in the cargo bay, which may have been cursed, and could have been the reason why the Titanic sank), and since we knew the outcome, did not invest any emotion into the characters. That, and I never liked Leonardo DiCaprio.

*shrug* I was the one that thought the girls had lost their minds when they would all burst into tears whenever Celine Dion played on the radio and would go hang out with the other guys who would promptly pull out the hacky sacks and pot and discuss other things while the girls sat there with mascara streaks and tears streaming until the song was over.
As I look back – I still don’t fucking get it. Did I miss something? Am I missing some genetic component? Or are teen girls just dumb (and getting worse)?
