Happy Boxing Day, everyone! I hope your holidays were and are going great. We celebrated the first night of Hanukkah with a brisket dinner and latkes with apple sauce and some gift-opening. Drew is Jewish and we’re raising the kids Jewish (with the exception of celebrating a secular-style Christmas), and my sister converted to Judaism a few years ago, so she sends the kids Hanukkah gifts, too (and my parents will have some Hanukkah gifts for the kids since we’ll be visiting during the last couple nights of the holiday). After dinner, we switched modes and got the kids in their Christmas PJs, put them to bed, and piled gifts under the tree and into stockings. When Hanukkah falls on Christmas, I tell you what, it’s a good day to be a Condellberry kid. As I put Jackson to bed last night after all the festivities, he said, earnestly: “Mom, what are we doing for Kwanzaa tomorrow?” (Last year, he was so convinced that we should be celebrating Kwanzaa that he was deeply disappointed when he discovered that we don’t. A friend of mine, who’s African American, was like, “Let the kid celebrate Kwanzaa! What’s the harm?” And then she brought him a Kwanzaa gift, and so now he’s, like, really convinced it’s a holiday we celebrate.)
Anyhoo, I cleaned up real good yesterday, with Drew and my parents having paid close attention to my gift guide and various Wendy’s Picks posts. And Drew seemed to like the gifts I gave him, including tickets to see “Oh, Hello” on Broadway next week before it closes. How was your holiday? What were your favorite gifts?
Oh, and here’s a YouTube video from one of the schools that received books from the DW holiday book drive. DW readers get a few shout-outs.
(Light posting this week – I’ll be spending time with the fam and friends, and on Thursday we head to Missouri for a few days. Hope you are also enjoying a low-key weeks with loved ones!)
