Dear Wendy
Dear Wendy

Reader Home Tours: Addie Pray’s Highrise Apartment

Name: “Addie Pray.”

Where is the location of your home? Chicago, Gold Coast neighborhood.

What type of property it is? Highrise apartment.

How long have you lived there? Four years.

How many people (and pets) reside there? Just me.

If you could change one thing about it what would that be? I wouldn’t change a lot; it’s really a perfect little apartment for me. And oddly, I don’t mind the carpet and not-so-fancy kitchen. I’d like a guest room, but I’d also like to not pay an additional $1,000 a month for that. The one thing I’d change is the apartment’s policy on pets. I really want a dog, but pets aren’t allowed in this building.

The photo above is the view from Addie Pray’s apartment. Keep reading for more pictures of her abode (and see where she does her DWing from — um, besides her office…).

“Antique desks! And this is where I watch “New Girl.”

“Ahh, the couch. This is where I usually eat, work, watch tv, dearwendy, read, you name it.”

“This is my fancy kitchen. What makes it so fancy is the dishwasher and small amount of counter space on the right.”

“Hurray for rooftop pools! This is a pic of my brother and three of my nephews.”

* To submit your home for DW Reader Home Tours, please send 3-5 photos with corresponding descriptions to [email protected] and write “Reader Home Tours” in the subject line. Please include answers to the following:

Your Name: (DW nickname and real name if you want to include it)
Where is the location of your home?
What type of property it is?
How long have you lived there?
How many people (and pets) reside there?
What’s your favorite thing about your home?
If you could change one thing about it what would that be?

Gumball machine got moved to the dining room. All dining rooms need gumball machines. That gumball machine used to be in my office at work. I moved it home when I adopted (fine, tried to adopt) a more adult-like professional demeanor at work.

er. . . just sayin’ but publishing a photo like this, it’s not impossible for someone to figure out your address and, possibly, your unit. You might want to point the camera the other way for your shot.

I’m trying to figure out how I can get to the roof of my townhouse and put a kiddie blowup pool on there to one-up you. Wish me luck. If I don’t post tomorrow, I’ve fallen.

I think that would be to one-up your own situation, but to still be one down from addie pray instead of 2!

Well he’s kinda right. If these photos were taken on a smartphone and some digital cameras; the image is embedded with GPS data. If you have the right programs you can use them to analyze the picture and rip the GPS coordinates from it, and they’re surprisingly accurate. Thankfully most phones allow you to disable this feature. If you’re worried yours is enabled then just google instructions for how to disable it for your particular make/model phone.

        That is so creepy :S

Also, that is why you take pictures with actual cameras and not smart-phones. Unless actual cameras have gps too, which kinda sucks if it makes ppl figure out where i live! D:

I wouldn’t be too worried about that in a Chicago highrise…if I were to submit my view pictures one could easily figure out where I live, but good luck getting past security – and if you did get up to my floor good luck trying to break down my industrial strength door!

Oh I have to refill it pretty regularly. One problem is it actually requires quarters. And who carries change anymore? For several months I had lost the key, so I couldn’t get the money or peanut M&Ms out. I was so depressed for those several months.

So since this is a home-y post, I will share something I tried out at my place that I thought was: 1. super cool, 2. easier than it was cool, and 3. cheaper than it was easy…
If you have a hutch in your place that has glass doors, (or even a bookshelf), buy pretty wrapping paper and some double-sided tape and cut it to fit the back of the hutch/bookshelf.
It totally changed my whole dining room, and I thought it’d be cute to switch to season/holiday appropriate themes.

I’m a big fan of mixing antiques + modern things. The antique desk + flatscreen combo was an accident; I didn’t know where to put the two when I moved in, so I just put them together temporarily…. that was 4 years ago.
