Reader Home Tours: Atrip’s Duplex

What is your name (DW nickname and real name if you want to include it)? Atrip, aka Andrea

Where is the location of your home? Adorable neighborhood in Upstate South Carolina. It is great because I can walk to coffee shops, drugstores, the bank, and other cute shops. There aren’t many places around here where that is possible.

What type of property it is? Duplex, it has one bedroom, one bath, and a GREAT basement (although it allows me to acquire way too many new tools for my carpentry obesssion). The kitchen is tiny, but I love the open cabinets and old sink. Fortunately the appliances are new! There is also a backyard that I can put Tiller in when I’m working in the back on my project of the week. (Right now it is laundry basket shelves from ana-white.com for a friend, my first paying gig!)

How long have you lived there? Almost one year. I started moving in about a month before I graduated from college, and it is my first place of my own! I love it. Seriously. It is going to be sad when I move out at the end of the summer to (hopefully) go wherever boyfriend gets a mining job, and I’ll find a carpentry job nearby.

How many people (and pets) reside there? Mostly just me and my cockapoo Tiller, but the boyfriend is here a few nights a week. I feel like I get the best of both worlds because it is my space, but I get to make him help with the chores!

If you could change one thing about it what would that be? My favorite part is being able to continually update and change things. Sometimes I wish I had more rooms to decorate and experiment, but it really is perfect for me right now. I also wish there were a better spot for my garden. I built a raised bed a few weeks ago, but I don’t think there will be enough sun. You can see my tiny lettuce and kale pots in the front though.

The photo above is Atrip’s duplex. Keep reading to see what it looks like inside.

The kitchen table was a homemade graduation present from my boyfriend.

I made the hexagon shelves in the bedroom for my boyfriend’s birthday.

The green nightstand was my first furniture project, and we made the frame of Tiller’s picture (next to the bed) that a friend painted .

I sewed the dishcloths on the stove and made the art above the stove, and the spice rack.

I got lucky in ‘inheriting’ lots of furniture from my older sisters, so the only purchases for the house are a few throw pillows and my comforter. Boyfriend is a master dumpster-diver so we acquire new decorations that way too.

I was hoping for a picture of your carpentry tools! I love carpentry so much. I long to have my own set of tools someday beyond just the odd screwgun and handsaw. A nice router, a mitre saw, a band saw…drooooooool. And maybe *fans self* some metal tools!!! And then I can make my own bizarre idea of furniture!

Anyway, you have an adorable home! And the carpentry work is lovely!!!

Fantastic! I love ana-white.com. We have build a couple of pieces of hers. The next project is the jelly safe! I’m pretty pumped for that.
