There was such an overwhelming response when I asked readers to introduce themselves on a weekend open thread that I decided to give you all a weekly column to do just that. I’ve always said this site wouldn’t be what it is without the engagement and participation of its readers and this column is the place to learn more about who you are what makes you tick. After the jump, let’s meet Kerrycontrary.
1. What’s your name, age and whereabouts?
Kerrycontrary, age 24, and I live in a suburb of Washington, DC about a mile from the city.
2. What’s your relationship status?
In a long-distance relationship for the past two years, going strong. It should stop being long-distance in June.
3. How do you spend your weekdays?
That varies. I just finished my Master of Library Science in May so it was a combination of classes, homework, and working part-time. I had a contract position until the end of August working in a special collections library. Now I’m looking for a job so I run in the mornings and job search all afternoon. I spend my week-nights cooking new foods and playing with my miniature dachshund, Summer.
4. How do you spend your free time?
I like to spend a lot of time outdoors. My boyfriend and I frequent state parks or I walk my dog on local bike paths. I also like watching hockey, trying new foods, and going to museums. Hey, I live in Washington, DC so there’s a lot of free museums! I go out for drinks with friends occasionally but not nearly as much as I did in college.
5. What are your top likes and dislikes?
Likes: Indian food, french cheese, cool fall days, big purses, and good customer service.
Dislikes: Bad manners, abstinence-only education.
6. What’s the best relationship advice you’ve ever been given?
Never wait around at home for a guy to call (My Mom).
7. What’s the best relationship lesson you’ve ever learned?
Never be friends with an ex immediately after a break up. It’s too hard and you will probably end up having ex-sex, which just makes everything more complicated. Take a break from contact and attempt a friendship later if you really want. Sometimes you will never be friends with a particular ex, and that’s how the cookie crumbles.
8. Besides DearWendy.com, what are some of your favorite websites?
I have my own makeup and cosmetic blog (www.kerrycontrary.blogspot.com) where I review cosmetic products. I also like Modcloth.com for clothing and www.myveryworstdate.com for laughable dating stories.

I am with on your likes and dislikes, minus the Indian food. I haven’t come around to yet after watching it mold on my fridge for weeks thanks to my college roommate. And Modcloth is amazing!

Oh I love this! I’m with you on every like and dislike. I totally pictured you older and much different looking, not sure why. My sister just moved to DC and I think its awesome their museums are free, NY’s are not. I came thisclose to getting a mini dachshund a month ago, so I’m super jealous right now and wish you’d included a picture.

PS I have a Yorkie, she is awesome.
Because I live in a condo and work all the time. It would’ve been a very childish and selfish decision. But man was she cute!! Someday…
Kudos to you for recognizing that. I’m kind of in the same boat. I want a dog ~so~ badly but I’m worried I won’t be able to keep up with vet bills if something were to happen, and I don’t have a yard.
I have two minature dachshunds (they’re technically tweenies, at 13 lbs). Oh dear god, the cute, the dog battles… worth it.
Doxies are awesome pets! My dog is half Dachshund, half Corgi, and he is a constant source of Squee

The only way you should ever see an ex right after a breakup is to make sure you don’t shave anywhere & wear your worse panties…
haha yes! like a pair of the dreaded that time of the month underwear. where the only other reason you wear them is you’re to sick to move off the bed/couch or you haven’t washed clothes in a while (meaning too long, long enough to use all other underwear including that thong that was so uncomfortable you said you’d never wear it again).
Of course even that didn’t stop me, I was still about to give in…until I lied down on his bed & found someone else’s earring, THAT.stopped.me !

Kerry, I was in your Academic Libraries class last semester! Sorry, when I saw the MLS + DC + Kerry I realized that I probably knew you, and then I looked at your picture again and I realized that we had class together. (I realize this is the creepiest thing in the whole world.) I’m a MLS student in my second year now.
