Reader Recs: Cassie’s Favorites

Amos SmudgeDear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so, when a commenter suggested I create a regular feature for them to recommend some of their favorite products, it was a no-brainer and Reader Recs was born. Today’s recommendations come from Cassie, who is a teacher who lives in Minnesota with her husband. Her hobbies include taking care of her new kitten Amos (pictured), kettlebell, traveling, and pottery. She also enjoys having a sense of humor and conversing with people who laugh at her lame jokes. Keep reading for some of her favorite product recommendations.

51o1kYbhURL._SL1500_Da Bird Cat Toy
This is one of my cat’s favorite toys. He gets bored with some of the others, but, whenever I pull Da Bird, out he goes crazy for it. It’s quite sturdy, so it stands up to a lot of pouncing, biting, and clawing and he’s able to get his energy out in a productive way. Here’s what he had to say about Da Bird: fav’;e]q. I think that’s cat-type for, “I love it very much.”

71DwqGSnhEL._SL1500_Cuisinart Cookware Set
A while back my husband was looking for new pots and pans since we were still using my old, beat-up set from my college days. He has experience working in restaurants and is an avid home cook, so his expectations are pretty high. I likes this set, which looks great, is of good quality, is very affordable, and has everything you could need. [Plus, it’s marked down 66% from $670 to $231!! — wendy]

31TTJDvi-vLTiki Tissue Box Holder
I love getting kitschy gifts for my brother every year for Christmas, and this Tiki head tissue box holder was a huge hit with him and other members of my family.

81gduo5BHEL._SL1500_Kitchens of India Curry Paste
I enjoy going out to eat, and one of my favorite cuisines is Indian. But sometimes I get the desire to eat Indian food on my couch in my pajamas, and this poses a conundrum since Indian restaurants don’t deliver (in Minnesota at least). Thankfully, this curry paste (and basically everything I’ve tried by this brand) makes cooking delicious Indian meals very simple and quick. It’s got great flavor, a decent spice level, and is 100% natural. I’ve included the link, but I’ve always been able to find this brand in grocery stores.

s1572247-main-LheroKoh Gen Do Aqua Foundation
This is my HG foundation. If you like light-to-medium coverage and a natural look, this is the foundation for you. Whenever I wear it, I can’t stop stroking my cheek and staring (which feels a little Silence-of-the-Lambs-y at times, but it’s that good). It’s a bit on the pricey side, but it’s lasted me quite a few months already. Plus, Sephora has an excellent return policy if the product doesn’t work out.

Thanks, Cassie!

If you have some products you’d like to recommend to the DW audience, shoot me an email at [email protected] with links to five recommendations. (Write “reader recs” in the subject line, please). Your recommendations can be from any store or website, but they need to be accessible online — and I would love it if at least two items could be found on Amazon where I am an affiliate. If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/ explain what you love so much about it.

Hey I have that exact same tissue box holder! I wish it would stand upright though.

Indian restaurants that don’t deliver? I usually drop those in favor of ones that do. But I might try this curry paste…
    .
By the way, if anyone’s living in Philly: get Tiffin, because omg delicious, cheap, and they deliver for free!

I really need indian food to start delivering around here. I wish Jalsa’s in Columbia Heights would… I would eat the heck out of some delivered Jalsa’s.

I should also get Pickles that toy. She’s been rather bored lately

You still gotta go outside! I end up getting delivery if it’s clear I am not going anywhere and won’t be feeding myself otherwise.

I want that foundation and I’m going to go try it out! I have to go over to Sephora on my lunch anyway because I did something very silly this morning when in a rush and only put mascara on ONE eye and didn’t figure it out until I got to my desk. So I went in the bathroom and washed it off; I no longer look like Liza Minnelli the morning after too many martinis, but my eyelashes feel naked. (If I like the foundation, I promise that I will buy it through the link, Wendy!)

Re: the Indian food. A trick I learned from my Indian ex-bf’s mother: buy spices in bulk, mix them together for a variety of dishes and keep them in jars. So long as you’ve got some basmati and/or lentils and whatever veggies you like in the house you are good to go (ok you need oils and maybe tomato paste too, depending on what you’re making but it’s easy!). Mmm. I’m so making Indian food for dinner. That jar of lime pickle I have at home is calling my name.

A few weeks ago, I accidentally left the house for the day with no mascara — and I can skip most makeup, but mascara is essential! Luckily, it was a sunny day and we were outside, so I just wore big sunglasses. My point is: I feel your pain.

Its the one thing I can’t skip either! My eyelashes have blond highlights in them so I look half of them are missing if I don’t wear mascara.

Depending on where you live, you might have to order it online. It’s not carried in every Sephora. I had contacted the Koh Gen Do company directly and asked if they could ship a few free samples of a couple of the colors so I’d know which to purchase, and they had no problem with that.

I live in NYC. We have ALL THE THINGS, so I’m sure I can find it somewhere, but I actually didn’t check for it when I went into the Sephora because the one near my office is on 34th street and I was tripping over tourists. It was making me cranky. So I only stayed long enough to put mascara on! 🙂

I have those pots and pans and i love them! AND you can even put them in the dishwasher, which I used to think was a major sin. They also clean up really well with Borax or Baking soda

Sent the link of the pots and pans to my SO. Told him it was a DW rec. He said “that’s good enough for me. They’ll be here Tuesday”.

    I love you guys. 🙂

Kitchens of India Mashed Vegetable Curry is the bomb. I can’t find it where I live so I order it off Amazon – thru Wendy’s affiliate site. PS I am originally from MN. Great recs!
