Reader Recs: Kicia is Kinda Cat-Crazy

Screen Shot 2014-04-03 at 9.46.23 AMDear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so, when a commenter suggested I create a regular feature for them to recommend some of their favorite products, it was a no-brainer and Reader Recs was born. Today’s recommendations come from Kicia, who lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her sister, four cats, and a large dog who thinks she is a cat. She enjoys shopping, craft beer, taking naps, and hanging out and drinking Scotch at old man bars. She also enjoys dressing up cats in outfits just to watch the expressions on their faces. Check out Kicia’s recommendations below which, yes, do include cat-related stuff.

TOP61. Cat Rushmore Tee

I absolutely love this tee-shirt. Not only is the picture amazing, but it’s comfy and long. The shirt runs a little small, so definitely size up (I’m usually a size 4, but I needed a medium). The company also makes many more fun designs, such as this stripper sloth tee.

abeac4533ce7f470b4f8de6472d7ea992. Lady Love Song dress

This is the perfect date night dress. It’s form-fitting, but the longer length makes it very classy. This also runs small, so sizing up is necessary.

PROD_1157670_XL3. Avon Eyeshadow Quad

I love these because I’m terrible at coordinating eye shadow colors. I probably have at least 10 of these eye shadow quads and all of them look amazing. They even have little instructions on the back to tell you where to put each color on your eyes. They’re usually available on sale too. I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price.

41nxMrQJe4L._SY300_4. VinoToGo Wine Tumblers

I bought these for my sister for Christmas. They may be the greatest invention ever. [Yes! I featured these on my holiday gift guide! — Wendy]

Screen Shot 2014-04-03 at 9.46.23 AM5. “I Could Pee on This” Poetry Book

A book of cat poetry, if cats could write poetry. Some of the poems are seriously funny. [This is also available as a calendar, which my parents gave me for Christmas and I love! — Wendy]

If you have some products you’d like to recommend to the DW audience, shoot me an email at wendy@dearwendy.com with links to five recommendations. (Write “reader recs” in the subject line please). Your recommendations can be from any store or website, but they need to be accessible online — and I would love it if at least two items could be found on Amazon where I am an affiliate. If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/ explain what you love so much about it.

I honestly was not a cat person until I started hearing about everyone’s cats on DW. Now I want all the cats and the “I Could Pee on This” book.

    Woo! Alexandria represent.

Anyway! I love the vino2go cups! Was also gifted one by a friend. Makes picnicking with wine that much more classy. 😉

I need that dress in my life!

I have “I Could Pee on This”! It’s a classic. I desperately want the Cat Rushmore shirt now. All of my shirts are technically cat shirts since they’re all covered in cat hair, but I don’t have a shirt with actual cats on it.

Oh my gosh, I don’t have cats and I don’t particularly like cats in real life (I think allergies have fed my dislike), but I want that book. So bad.

Hey Kicia, unrelated to the list, but did the crazy roommate move out?

Yes, she did!! Thank god. She left behind a huge mess in the kitchen but I was happy to clean it because it meant she was gone. And I changed the locks immediately after she left.

Also…last of her messes you will ever have to clean. I bet it was satisfying!

Having the crazy gone from your place has to be a huge relief!

OT, but your intro about liking old style bars just gave me a DC/NOVA/MD meetup idea.

Ooh, what place are you thinking about? I think the Philly meetups are beating us in number of meetups so we should probably plan more.

I need to do a bit of research and come up with a date range, but I’ll start a forum thread on it once that’s done

Oooh, are you thinking Shelley’s? That was the first place I thought when I saw that. But then you have to deal with all your clothes smelling like cigars for the rest of time. The Hamilton is a nice old-timey one, too.

I was actually thinking of the PX–its a speakeasy in Alexandria. It’s not open all the time and we’d probably want to reserve a table for a group, but it’s got great drinks and atmosphere.

Re: non cat people turning into cat people, I’m slowly but surely convincing Navy Guy to get a cat!! I’m beyond excited. He’s actually a bit allergic, but he’s fine around my cat when he takes his pills. He LOVES my cat and had cats growing up so I think he would adjust to living with one just fine. I keep on posting pictures of adoptable cats on his Facebook haha. Every time I’m there I just say “you know what this apartment is missing? A cat”.

I wish I could become slightly more cat person-ish, considering the number of people I know with cats. And I’ve heard once you’re around a cat long enough your system can get used to it. But my bloodshot eyes (while fully medicated) after staying with a friend who had a cat the other day have driven home the point that I can never truly join the club. 🙁

Navy Guy is totally fine when he takes his medication so I don’t think it’s as bad as some people are. I know my mom’s friend is allergic to cats but he’s had a cat for almost 15 years now and is totally fine.
