Reader Recs: LBH Loves to Shop

shoppingDear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so, when a commenter suggested I create a regular feature for them to recommend some of their favorite products, it was a no-brainer and Reader Recs was born. Today’s recommendations come from LBH–or “lets_be_honest” if you’re being formal, who has already shared some of her favorites with us and now has more because girlfriend loves to shop. LBH is from NY and lives with her partner and daughter. Her hobbies include mimosas, naps, HGTV, and spreadsheets. Keep reading to see what cool stuff shopaholic LBH recommends.

I got this in my Birchbox and it’s my new favorite hand cream. I’ve tried a million, ranging in different prices, and this is the best yet.

23536DCL AHA Revitalizing Cleanser
I’ve had cystic acne for years now and, so far, this is the only thing that’s helped that doesn’t include getting shots in my face. It doesn’t make you feel clean, which is kind of gross, but it really works.

cn7231839GapFit GDance Pants
I have 4 of these now all in the same color. Way better than Lulu! Don’t listen to Iwanna!

nd.720Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey perfume
I’ve been wearing this for over 15 years. Nice smell, not too girly or strong. If you like floral, try Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. Its pricey, but smells amazing in the summer.

vc-ellen_bbVince Camuto Ellens
If any of you remember seeing my shoe closet picture, you’ll know I have tried plenty of flats. These are the best. I’d recommend the black ones and a patent pair.

Thanks, LBH!

If you have some products you’d like to recommend to the DW audience, shoot me an email at wendy@dearwendy.com with links to five recommendations. (Write “reader recs” in the subject line please). Your recommendations can be from any store or website, but they need to be accessible online — and I would love it if at least two items could be found on Amazon where I am an affiliate. If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/ explain what you love so much about it.

I’m gonna try out that cleanser. It’s not very expensive for a face wash! I have oily oily acne-proned skin and live in a humid climate so I’m basically obsessed with skin care. I so envy my friends who can just roll out of bed and splash water on their faces. Thanks for the recommendation!

Try these if your skin gets oily during the day. I keep a pack in my purse and use it at least once a day. It does nothing to any makeup you might have on too.

Me too. If you want to get into more trouble, check out GapFit during the Fourth of July sale. I think i picked up shorts and racerbacks for $5 – 7 each during that time last year. He Pants nearly had a heart attack until I showed him how inexpensive everything was.

Def check it out. I may have gone overboard last summer, but I’m glad I have a ton of workout clothes now. Plus, I like GapFit’s colors. I doubt anyone else out on the water gives a crap about the bright green racing stripes on my shorts, but I love ’em.

I wear this, or the non-underwire version: http://www.herroom.com/champion-1890-shape-too-underwire-convertible-sports-bra.shtml. I went to a big sports store and focused on the champion bras, which you can buy by bra/cup-size, and I really like them. I’m a 34DD-DDD for reference and I can run/jump/etc….I think Lemongrass uses champion bras as well.

My favorite is made by Moving Comfort, and I think I got it at a Dick’s. I’ve seen it recommended by others before too. It doesn’t have an underwire, so there’s a bit of uni-boob going on, but it holds them in, and the straps are adjustable.

I’ll start because I need fashion advice. I’m trying to decide what to pack for my weekend with the gentleman caller. This is what I’m thinking:
      .
Friday night, he gets in. We’re meeting for drinks. I have dinner reservations at a great place. Actually two great places. And we’ll decide. Anyway, I’m thinking super tight black dress with exposed zipper down to my rear. A jean jacket. And these super hot wedges I bought.
      .
Saturday day. White shorts, a lightweight tan sweater and sandals.
      .
Saturday night. Regular or white jeans. I’m undecided. I sleeveless black silk tank that ties on both shoulders. My wedges.
      .
      Thoughts????

I have a flats dilemma. I tend to wear mine to death in the Spring/early Fall because NYC is the cookie monster of shoes. I love flats and they are super cute, but they’re either only comfortable for a short while, or are actually kind of horrible to my feet if I wear them on a regular basis (which I do because I’m a masochist). I have really archy feet so maybe that’s part of it. Same goes for flip flops. This means I tend to choose low wedges (ok most of them are high wedges bc again- masochism) on a sort of daily basis. But whatever I wear, I always feel like my feet are too hot, don’t have enough support, hurt because they’re too high, etc. I always feel like I’m doing warm weather footwear wrong; I LOOK nice, but it’s 50/50 as to whether I’m uncomfortable.

I so want those Vinco Camuto flats (to go with my cute Vince Camuto coat, of course!), but what if I’m still uncomfortable?! Does anyone have this same problem? HELP ME.

Have you tried the flats with laser cut outs? Something like this: http://www.zappos.com/lucky-brand-eastly-nomad?ef_id=U4dFyQAABahU7xTq:20140529180001:s
Might at least help with how hot your feet get. You could also try a Dr. Scholls insert for your arch.

Living in Chicago, I walk a TON. I kind of like Toms because they’re super lightweight and super comfortable. Of course, I’ll throw in the right shoes for my outfit once I get somewhere. And sometimes, i too am a masochist in the name of beauty. BUT…. if I know I’m going to be walking a ton, I tend to stick with the Toms.

I’m freaking obsessed with my Crocs flats. They seriously don’t really look like typical Crocs, and I can (and have) walked for miles upon miles in them with total comfort. Sadly I got mine a couple years ago and it doesn’t look like that specific style (the Marnie) is in stock anymore, but these are pretty close, minus the strap: .

Tara, I just got these flats (literally, they were just delivered) and they made me think of you since I have the same hot feet problem.

They have good air flow because of the crochet and they actually have decent padding in them. The sole feels a bit slippery but I think they just need to be worn in.

@LBH, I am always looking for the ideal ballet flat too. I am afraid to buy the ones with elastic on the sides because I’ve had bad experience with them cutting off circulation and pressing painfully into my foot. Are these an exception to that rule? (or maybe its just my feet and no one else has this problem?!)
