Reader Recs: Zombeyonce’s Picks

Dear Wendy readers are some of the most intelligent, stylish, super-cool people around (it’s a proven fact), so it’s a no-brainer to feature some of their favorite products. Many of the recommended products happen to be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Today’s recommendations come from Zombeyonce, who lives in Portland, Oregon, where she and her husband spend their days remodeling the basement and foisting their six-month-old baby, Isadora, off on the grandparents so they can finally finish painting the damn library already. Zombeyonce works on a website and tries to get new pages up instead of checking on Reddit’s latest posts, but it’s a daily struggle. Oh, and chocolate. Something about the importance of chocolate (you get it). Here are some of her current favorite things:

My sad old house shoes finally disintegrated and I was forced to buy something new since we have hardwood floors and they can be hell on bare feet. I went for the revolutionary choice of summer slippers, house shoes with open toes so my poor toes can get some air in this heat. They’re super squishy and cozy and come in blue, pink, and white.

Another summer necessity: bloomers! I don’t have the most svelte thighs and don’t enjoy the whole inner thigh rub, so I wear bloomers under dresses and skirts to keep away any uncomfortableness. I’ve tried lots of brands and really like these Jockey Skimmies Wicking Slipshort. They come in lots of sizes and colors and are a good length (and the fun colors could look good peeking out from under a short skirt). They’re good to wear all day, and the wide waistband is less likely to roll over than the waistbands of other bloomers.

I suffer from a really annoying and really itchy scalp, especially when it’s hot outside. I started using the Soak and Float Lush shampoo bar a few months ago and it’s made a big difference. Plus, it smells really nice (I’ve gotten compliments after hugs). Lush has a ton of different shampoo bars depending on your needs and scent preferences. I recommend also getting the storage tin to make your bar last longer in the shower.

I bought this bright red mini fridge when I went back to work after maternity leave. It’s a great place to keep my pumped breast milk and lunch and snacks without having to use the gross shared fridge in the breakroom that sometimes just stops working and where lunches sometimes go missing. It also encourages me to eat more fresh produce since I can have it nice and cold right there, and it’s small enough to fit under my desk.

After getting tired of stinky ballet flats from sweaty summer feet, I found these gladiator sandals to get me through the season. They are wonderfully strappy and pretty comfortable, and I feel like Maximus when I wear them with a short dress. Really, what more can you ask for from a pair of shoes?

If you have some products you’d like to recommend to the DW audience, shoot me an email at wendy@dearwendy.com with links to five recommendations. (Write “reader recs” in the subject line, please.) Your recommendations can be from any store or website, but they need to be accessible online. If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/explain what you love so much about it.

The links don’t seem to have made it into the post. I’m curious about those gladiator sandals!

Yes on those Jockey Skimmies! I also wear shorts under dresses all summer, and these are more comfortable than other “slimming” brands/have a lot of stretch–I am still wearing them 4 mos pregnant and cannot comfortably wear any of the other brands I had previously (and none of my pants have fit well for like 2 mos already lol). Though I had an issue with the shorter ones movin’ around too much and had to stick with the longer length, which I awkwardly hike up for shorter skirts ha. Still works well enough!

I do the same thing. Since it’s so stretchy, it works to hike the legs up a bit without bunching.

I just ordered the shampoo bar. I’m excited to try it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
