Dear Wendy
Dear Wendy

Reminder: Thanks for Shopping My Affiliate Sites

Just wanted to give another quick reminder and thanks for shopping through my various affiliate links, including Amazon and ModCloth. As you can see by a couple of the ads in the right sidebar, ModCloth is a great place to shop for cute plus size clothing, as well as swimsuits, wedding attire (including bridesmaids dresses), and lots of other fun stuff. My favorite pick of the week from Amazon are these wedges, which LBH says are amazing (and she shops a lot, so she’d know from awesome shoes…).

Commissions I make from affiliate sales help pay site maintenance fees, so thanks for shopping and supporting DW!

Whaaaa, my very first shoutout! I knew I got out of bed for a reason today!

Wendy, can you see our purchases? Because you might be wondering why I bought a lifesized cardboard cutout of George W. Bush on Amazon…

Ok, haha. My brother and I were talking recently about how goofy GWB always looks, no matter what, and that you almost can’t help but just smile at him. So my brother’s birthday is coming up and he is the guy who has everything, so my sister and I were trying to think of a really funny gag gift for…a guy who has everything. And I’m 99.9% sure that is one thing he definitely doesn’t have. So there you have it. Now I just have to get out there to see him open it.

Well, because my site has “adult content” because all your pervs can’t stop talking about your sex lives in the forums and comments and open threads, them classy stores like JCrew want nothing to do with me (in the affiliate sense. They’ll still advertise via the ad network). What other sites are you interested in? I just added a new one that you can see over in the sidebar called romantic gifts.com for all you pervy pervs.

Definitely! I order from Amazon like every week (ordered baby gifts for a friend just yesterday, shoes for drew last week, a couple books for jackson the week before…). And I have bought lots of stuff from Modcloth in the five years or so since I’ve known about them. Besides having cute stuff, they have some of the best online customer service I’ve ever come across. Don’t like what you bought? They make returns easy, which is essential when you’re shopping for, like, jeans or shoes or whatever online.

I have not ordered from romanticgifts.com yet.

Have any of y’all tried a suit that is two piece, but with the high waisted bottoms? Like this one?

      • avatar

        GatorGirl July 18, 2013, 3:32 pm

In my mind they are. Also the part of my body I’m self conscious of is my lower stomach and I would want that covered. (In addition to just feeling naked in a bikini.)

        Link
      • Fabelle

        Fabelle July 18, 2013, 3:45 pm

I actually feel like the high-waisted bottoms are MORE unflattering to lower stomachs? They seem to work best on either super-thin bodies (narrow hips, long, flat, straight torso) OR very rounded, plus-sized type figures (with weight distributed evenly).

I mean, the one you linked to is cute (& looks good on the model, who I wouldn’t say has an unrealistic body type at all) but, I dunno, IRL, I think they can be tough to pull off. (And I also am self-conscious about my lower stomach; I always have below-the-belly-button fat there. But high-waisted suits seem to accentuate it more, I think.)

        Link
      • avatar

        GatorGirl July 18, 2013, 3:50 pm

Yeah, the model looks pretty normal-sh sized to me. I’m pretty thin, like a size 2 or 4, but am short waisted so maybe it’s not the route for me. I wonder if I can find one in a store to try on before ordering.

        Link
      • Fabelle

        Fabelle July 18, 2013, 3:58 pm

Same here, I’m thin but my waist is short & curvy (due to my hips being high? I think that’s a short-waisted thing), which makes the high-waist look a no-go.

The one you picked out looks more forgiving though, so it could be fine (it’s not like THIS one, for example: I’m trying to find other suggestions, but I can’t yet. haha

      • avatar

        kerrycontrary July 18, 2013, 3:57 pm

Agree that they are probably hard to pull off. I’m also short waisted long legs, and I feel like it would make my torso look even shorter. Try to find a mid-rise bikini? I can’t do low rise or I’ll get muffin top (i’m a size 4-6). I found my bikini at JC penney last year.

        Link
      • Fabelle

        Fabelle July 18, 2013, 4:01 pm

Yeah, I also can’t pull off tops with the band at the bottom because it shortens my waist too much (like this http://www.modcloth.com/shop/twopiece-swimwear/to-the-rescue-swimsuit-top or this http://www.zappos.com/lole-oahu-halter-bikini-top-kiss?ef_id=UehJJgAABF-iwHhl:20130718195934:s)

        Link
      • avatar

        GatorGirl July 18, 2013, 4:03 pm

Yeah, I get the muffin top thing bad, or saggy butt syndrome if I go up a size or two. Which is why I was going one piece since it smooths out the sides but doesn’t create the saggy butt, but they feel suffocating too. And I like the idea of a high waste because it’s more coverage then just like my undies, and we all know I dress like a granny.

you mean those tight shirts that were like onesies for adults, from the early 90s? my high school english teacher used to wear those. i think the benefit is the shirt stays tucked in, because of course it’s snapped around your hooha.

      Classic July 18, 2013, 9:03 pm

Well, I know what they used to be for. Back in the early 1970s, we wore very low-rise, bell-bottomed jeans and pants, which were called “hiphuggers.” Some of these were even lower cut than the jeans that have been normal in the past few years, but the difference was that, because the technology hadn’t been developed yet, there was no stretch in the fabric at all, and the pants were not constructed with the current computerized slight rise in the back or anything like that. So we wore bodysuits or dance leotards underneath these jeans, to have the look of very tight tops with very low-rise pants and a belt. Without the bodysuits, our butts would have shown when we sat down. I’d say if you want to wear a top tucked in to low-rise jeans, that’s where the bodysuit comes in.
