Share Your Recommendations!

In the comments of this post the other day, LBH had a great suggestion for incorporating more Amazon links and increasing my affiliate commission potential: invite readers to share their recommendations, new finds, and current favorites. I simply don’t do enough shopping — window or otherwise — to post frequent recommendations, but many of you do. If you have some products — makeup, books, fashion, home gadgets or decor, jewelry, handbags, beauty products and toiletries, etc. — and would like to share your finds with the DW audience, shoot me an email at [email protected] with links to five recommendations (write “reader recs” in the subject line, please). Your recommendations can be from any store or website — but need to be accessible online (i.e. linkable) — and I would love it if at least two items could be found on Amazon (it’s not a requirement, but definitely preferable). If your list is a good fit for the site, I’ll ask you to write a brief description of each item/ explain what you love so much about it.

I can’t wait to see what cool stuff you all introduce us to!

Quickly, someone recommend a good, cheap blender (under $100 would be nice). I need it to make daiquiris and smoothies.

But just out of curiosity are you doing a control F for “Addie Pray” to find my comments? Because I’m flattered. Really!

Oh interesting. So I have observed that the asshat down thumber stops down-thumbing me after 5:30 ET – which means s/he works on the east coast at a computer and gets off at 5:30 ET when s/he shuts down and skidaddles and obviously can’t check DW on her/his asshat flip phone (no offense to nice people with a flip phone) … which means … something important, surely.

Ok the thumbdown came just after 6 ET so asshat has a pretty short commute home. So after leaving his work computer asshat goes straight home and logins onto DW and Ctrl F’s Addie Pray and then thumbs me down? Lame. That’s objectively lame. Go to a happy hour, get laid, I don’t care. I mean, at least I’m here because I have work to do and am procrastinating. Also, you are your mother’s least favorite child, it’s so obvious.

This may be a worse case than I thought. It’s not just that your mom loved you least, it’s that she didn’t love you at all. Gosh, that must have really hurt you! Do you want to talk about your feelings?

Since you’re so knowledgeable on STDs, your favorite things could be, like, amazing ointments that work miracles. Or something else.

Oh oh oh, everyone should pick a certain category of STUFF. Like you’re in charge of recommending STD treatments, and iwanna will recommend lululemon clothes, and BGM can recommend Madonna singles, and Addie (who is the best) can recommend wine.

Ok, this Maddie Gray shit is tiring.

Okay, so I came out of the closet as a make-up and beauty product addict a few weeks ago, and aside from all things Urban Decay except for cheeks and gloss (Tarte on both fronts!) and mascara (Too Faced! Whoever recommended their lash infusion mascara changed my life!), I must go on record about fragrances as well. Specifically, Marc Jacobs Dot for day wear and Tocca Violette for evening. I’m reaaaaallly picky about fragrances, and these are floral-vanillas on me (emphasis on floral, but especially with Dot). But normally, I think vanilla is too sweet, and somehow the combo in these two with the flowery fragrance ends up more light and powdery and I’m totally addicted. And you can find both for pretty cheap on Amazon.

Also!!! If you’re looking for some really great, fun workout leggings, derbyskinz has the best! Actually, they’re also good going out leggings, too. They have every color and pattern imaginable (I’m currently coveting a pair of black-on-black sparkly fish scale leggings for practice because I can FINALLY get away with wearing all the sparkly, outrageous shit I dreamed of wearing when I was five). They’re sturdy and opaque and don’t lose elasticity although the shiny ones lose their luster if you wash them too much. I wear them under baggy sweaters with boots on weekends, and I wear all but the shiniest to the gym, and no tears, snags, holes, etc. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. Derbyskinz.com is the site, and their customer service is excellent.

I’m looking to replace my running shoes. Anyone have some they’re way in love with? I’m vain, so they have to be cute as well as functional! I’m kind of ogling some of the New Balance Minimus trail shoes and hope they’ll serve me well for some light hiking a friend and I have discussed starting as well as be able to handle our weird beach terrain for when the dog and I go out.

OOH! I’m checking out the leggingz now! I think you told me Hot Topic had some great leggings last time I saw you. I still need some awesome leggings. Those kissy ones would have been great for V-Day….

@painted_Lady – I got the first or second generation of the Minimus (MT100 I believe?) and liked them OK… although using them for hiking I was very unhappy with the tread. I switched over to VivoBarefoot Breatho Trail and LOVE them. I backpack in them, run, etc. This won’t matter to you but they take microspikes better than the NB’s did too. You can get them for like $50 on amazon and sometimes cheaper on theclymb.com.

Actually, if you go to The Clymb you can use my code, I think that gets you like $25 off. I’ll post it in the DW FB forum, the link has my real name in it 🙂

Oooh I love Marc Jacobs Dot! And Daisy. I have a serious perfume addiction. Right now I’m obsessed with Balenciaga Florabotanica, but I can’t bring myself to buy a full size bottle.

I have a legging addiction. I wish I could afford the Black Milk leggings, but I’ve been buying knockoffs online. I have some Van Gogh Starry Night leggings that I got for $12 or so.

Ok, I am just going to put this here. Has anyone used the Facetune app? I just got it for iPhone after seeing someone’s FB pic that was so doctored as to make them look like a china doll, with blindingly white teeth. Best $2.99 I ever spent. You can take all your selfies and couple pics and basically ANY pic where you don’t look your best, and just go to town on it. With a couple swipes of your finger, you now have white teeth, perfect skin, and those circles under your eyes are no more. I got so obsessed with it yesterday (snow day basically), that I downloaded ANOTHER app (free) where you can make a “before and after” composite picture, and wow! I was so proud of my handiwork. I made myself look just like a Barbie. Then I figured out how not to go way too far with it, and just do subtle airbrushing of my and my husband’s faces. It’s perfection.

I don’t have 5 different products to recommend so I’ll just add this one here: Sugru. Fix anything. Fix everything. Improve everything. Might even replace duct tape as my go to fix-it product. Awesome, awesome stuff.
