    @Copa Too bad about things maybe fizzling, but nice that you already have another date lined up!

    @lucia_la
    Awwww this sounds so promising! Can’t wait to hear how things progress and awesome that you guys were able to maintain the connection even with a long holiday break (no easy feat).

    Things with me are fantastic! Been dating Canadian guy for 2 months and we’re going to Toronto for his birthday in a few weeks to celebrate with his friends. We’re also talking about going to Florida for Valentine’s Day to get a break from the cold (his family has a house there). Last night he asked if he could introduce me to his friends as his girlfriend, so feeling reeeeeeeeeally warm and fuzzy. Everything feels so good it’s almost too good to be true. So trying to pace myself emotionally (usually I take things much slower) and making sure we’re really getting to know each other. But I’m hoping 2017 is going to be a much better year for me 🙂

    You guyssss. I had such a good time on my date this past weekend. His original plan for the night was to meet at a coffee shop at six and then “at about 7:30 go to dinner” and I thought, “Yikes! That’s a lot of time investment into someone who could turn out to be a weirdo.” So I asked him if we could just chat over drinks, and wish we’d done dinner instead. He was kind and smart and interesting and has dimples. And he laughed at my jokes. He texted me later that night to say he wants to see me again. And now he’s in San Francisco for a work trip (I apparently pick ALL THE MEN WITH WORK TRAVEL RESPONSIBILITIES), but hope we’ll see one another again in the next couple weeks.

    I had one super boring date and one really fun date last week. The really fun date was with a guy I went out with for the first time right before Christmas, and we both braved the scary NC snowstorm (lol) to meet in a pub on Friday night for our second date. He is adorable and just seems like an all-around really quality guy/human being, plus he laughed at my jokes and he is funny too! Since I had picked the restaurants for our first 2 dates I told him I would love to see him again and asked him to pick our 3rd date adventure. He said he would – now I’m just waiting to hear back. 🙂

    Love that everyone is having fun early dates! @Copa I totally get weirded out when guys have multiple things planned into the first date…even dinner seems like too much of a commitment when I haven’t met someone yet (enough awful dates to want to avoid…) Glad you were pleasantly surprised!

    @TheLadyE
    I hope he takes the “adventure” part to heart and plans something really cool/interesting!

    @veritek Sounds like fun

    As a last side bar, I send warm thoughts to you all as I’m freezing in Chicago, brrrrrr.

    I had my date last night, and it was a first date, and it went really well! Guy kinda looked like the Brawny Man and was super tall. But great conversation over pizza and beers before I had to head back to work and plans for a second date soon!

    Yay veritek! At the risk of sounding weird, I love the Brawny Man. Haha. Does anyone else know the commercial where the Brawny Man is baking a cake, and making a mess, and there’s a puppy? I think it’s pretty old, but funny.

    I heard from my date by text yesterday, and this isn’t a bad thing, but I find his texts so… formal? They’re almost like super succinct e-mails, and I wonder if it’s because he’s a little bit older than I am (39). He told me he prefers engaging with people in person so I just assume he’s not much of a texter — which is fine, I’ve gotten to the point where I haaate texting with guys I’m dating at length — but I’m still getting used to his text style.

    I’ve also luckily never had an awful first date over dinner. I shudder at the thought. One of my most awkward dates was this past spring was a set up (friend of a friend), and making conversation was just painful. Our original plan had been dinner, but the wait at the restaurant was so long we decided to go to a bar around the corner instead. And thank goodness we did! Making conversation was painful, and I was horrified when he ordered a second drink. Even just thinking that the hour and a half I spent with him could’ve been doubled if we’d had to wait on food makes me squirm. So I’m sorry to all of you who have been in that situation before!

    Hope everyone’s weeks are going well! I have a huge stressful presentation at work tomorrow that I’ve been dreading. But then Thursday Banjo and I have a triple date with two of my friends and their SOs – we’re getting drinks at a hip new bar and then doing one of those escape rooms, where it’s like a big game/puzzle to get out of it. Should be fun!
    Then Friday one of my best friends moves back to my city, Saturday is a cookie party early in the evening and a birthday party later on. And I’m trying to get back into my half marathon training after the holidays.
    Busy week!!

    @Copa, I don’t think it’s his age… All my friends are late 30s to mid 40s, plus my parents, older relatives, etc… they text like you text. My dad texted me and my husband the other day that he was at the place he was supposed to meet us, and we both texted back “new phone who dis?” just to mess with him, but he got it and was like “it’s your father-in-law haha” or something. He’s 67.

    People who text like this guy are generally that kind of communicator. If it’s just his texts that are like that, maybe he’ll kind of pick up on your style and adapt. If he’s long winded and formal in general, that will become apparent.
