I got Hulu just to watch this show as when I was a young, fledgling atheist and feminist I loved it. The casting for the show is amazing and if it doesn’t take a bunch of awards, I’ll be shocked.
And now it’s just so effing relevant, I need to talk about it. Anyone else watching?May 19, 2017 at 12:10 pm #687519

Yes, but we have only watched the first 3-4 episodes, I think we’re behind by 1 or 2. It’s so good, but so intense that I want to watch and don’t want to watch at the same time!May 19, 2017 at 12:25 pm #687523
I’m watching it and I think it is great.May 19, 2017 at 1:04 pm #687532
Yes, all caught up and love it!May 19, 2017 at 1:12 pm #687534
I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been watching this show or not but I was in the shower this morning thinking that the Freedom Caucus is all about taking away freedom and imposing their rules on everyone and and micromanaging lives which is what we see on the show.May 19, 2017 at 1:28 pm #687536
That’s a terrifying thought Skyblossom! I’m watching and loving it too. I really want to reread the book, but I’m actually reading another Atwood book right now (Blind Assassin) so I’ll do that when I’m finished. I read Alias Grace followed by Cat’s Eye when I was 16/17 and she has been my favorite author ever since. The New Yorker profile about her last month just reminded me of how awesome she is. Absolutely worth a read: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/04/17/margaret-atwood-the-prophet-of-dystopiaMay 19, 2017 at 1:30 pm #687538
SPOILER ALERT (maybe)
Yeah, I don’t think they say it in the show, but in the book, all these ideas started in a think tank called “Sons of Jacob,” which is a reference to that biblical Rachel / Leah handmaid stuff. And then they coordinated and killed the president and congress and suspended the constitution. You could totally almost see that happening these days. Except they wouldn’t have to kill the president or Congress.May 19, 2017 at 1:37 pm #687541
I’m all caught up and also had read the book previously. I love it and I enjoy the changes/additions to the book they made, too. I normally binge watch things but can only handle about 20 min at at a time of this show b/c it is so upsetting. I cry most episodes and I got chills last episode during Serena’s flashback where she said “reproduction as a moral imperative”.
I could not tell what were the items the other handmaids left on June’s bed at the episode 5?May 19, 2017 at 1:39 pm #687542
They left her bits of food, like a banana, a cookie, a roll.May 19, 2017 at 1:40 pm #687543
thank you! I thought I saw an apple in there but I’m watching on a small screen through my veil of tears so…May 19, 2017 at 1:43 pm #687544
I really liked that part, the whole end of that episode, because it gave a sense of women standing together and helping each other in whatever small ways they can.
