I have a dog too-now you’ve learned something.May 19, 2017 at 1:10 pm #687533
Yay! That’s awesome, dogs rule.May 19, 2017 at 2:12 pm #687552
At any rate, she was nuts. Hopefully she is gone.May 19, 2017 at 2:22 pm #687553
Yeah, that was the thing, she was not stable, so it just was going nowhere good.
Do you guys feel like “bitch” or “cunt” or other names or language should be moderated? My primary goal is to delete fake posts, because without that action in place the site does get inundated with them, and most of them are not interesting, let alone funny. And I delete hate speech because it’s gross.
But I feel like calling someone a dick or asshole or bitch based on their comments is a different area, and potentially a lot harder to moderate… do you delete the whole comment or edit it? Or just ask the person to stop, or what? And what do you do with the comments that led up to it?
If people want that kind of language to be moderated, are you willing to call people out on it and hold each other accountable?May 19, 2017 at 2:51 pm #687559
Do I want the language moderated? No. I have a sailor mouth and bad language doesn’t bother me. It’s different when it’s really directed *at* someone though rather than being used to ‘add color’ though and I guess that’s when things can get muddy. ME was pretty disturbing more because of her instability screaming off the page than anything she said (I missed the deleted stuff though and am in support of deleting hateful comments like what I assume they were). Overall I think I, personally, could stand to be less bitchy on here but sometimes it’s just really hard not to be.May 19, 2017 at 2:54 pm #687563
Using words like bitch or cunt isn’t a problem. Calling another commentor a bitch or cunt, that I’m not ok with. But I don’t see it happening often.May 19, 2017 at 3:19 pm #687568
Eh, I agree with the others. I don’t necessarily want my comments to be moderated for language.
I do feel like she should have been banned because she was being ridiculously aggressive because she didn’t like the advice that was given. And not in the ridiculously aggressive way that some LWs respond. She was absolutely over the top with her homophobic comments-gross does not even begin to describe her comments.May 19, 2017 at 3:24 pm #687569
Banning someone is rare, and I think it’s usually after they’ve been warned and won’t stop. It also won’t necessarily keep the person off the site, without going into too much detail.
I can and will keep an eye on her though. She did stop after she was asked to.May 19, 2017 at 3:31 pm #687573
It’s not exactly a secret that rather like the word cunt. And use it sparingly — from time to time.
But the way “me” called somebody a cunt who truly was in no way being one was seriously deranged. Personal slur filled attacks on other commenters here is where I feel a line should be drawn. There was NO call for her to go so sideways so fast.May 19, 2017 at 3:32 pm #687574
Yeah, if I’d been awake at the time I might have said something.May 19, 2017 at 3:35 pm #687577
The thing is, if calling people cunts is ok, then it’s ok. It’s tough for me to make a call about where to draw the line of justification. I think people need to speak up if it’s bothering them, and hold each other accountable like I said. That’s difficult to police.May 21, 2017 at 5:02 pm #687726
I’m cool with using the words. Less cool used against someone here. Would prefer to not be called a cunt but I’m a big girl and can deal with it.
