Update: I do hope you all read this. We finally found a very good lawyer. I did not want to go that route but it proved necessary. After many hours with him he taught us a very valuable lesson.

Uninsured motorist covers obviously someone who might hit you who is not insured. This is obviously very important to have but I found out most people, myself included has only 30K coverage. Apparently this coverage also covers YOU even if the other motorist in insured in case they have low coverage. So if they are insured but perhaps an older car so lower amounts this amount on YOUR insurance can protect YOU. Your insurance can cover the difference. The attorney explained this in detail and indicated it is a often overlooked coverage and is very cheap. For about $5 more a month we have upped our coverage to 100K from 30K.

I wanted to share this info because I never knew but it can make a huge difference if anything ever happens.

I also learned many insurance companies offer coverage for about $2-$4 a month to cover your pet if it happens to be in your car during an accident. This an cover vet bills.

Please look into your policies carefully and see what you can add or update. I have also learned (well before this) that if you haven’t looked at your insurance in a while you may qualify for discounts due to age, years driving, zip codes, etc. Call your agent and find out how to get the most out of what you pay. For very little more a month I have added a lot to my policy. It doesn’t seem important, until it is.

Good to know! Hope you’re healing and feeling a little better. My first car was hit by an uninsured driver and since my car was old, I didn’t have full coverage. Learned my lesson…too many SR and zero insurance drivers out there.

Thanks for the info, Janelle! I just checked my uninsured motorist and it is at $100k, so that’s good.

Thanks guys for the feel better wishes. Sadly I am not that much better. Going to a pain management Dr. on Monday. My back feels like someone took a baseball bat to it and I am having headaches daily, which I never really get at all. Hoping it subsides though as I cannot imagine my back hurting like this for much longer. It is misery.

That sucks I’m sorry. If you’re open to it acupuncture can help a lot with pain management and healing (though I would recommend it as a supplement to traditional medicine not a substitute!).

So sorry you’re not doing better yet. I was rear ended in Jan. It was a teen girl who hit me. She even pushed me into the car in front of me. Totalled my car – took over a month to work through all the insurance crap to replace it.

More than the car though, I was worried about my back. I had back surgery (lower back) a couple of years ago and am very cautious about doing anything that might put me back in the kind of pain I was in pre-op. Sure enough, that accident caused a big setback. There were the typical whiplash symptoms of a headache and neck & shoulder stiffness, but what a lot of people don’t think about is how much it jars the lower back too. I actually started losing feeling in one of my feet.

I ended up doing about 6 weeks of physical therapy which helped a ton. It at least got me back to where I was before the accident (although I think my back is still a little more touchy since then). Hopefully you’ll be able to find a treatment plan that will help you get feeling good again.

Also, it was just this week that I realized I’m no longer checking the rearview mirror with a sense of panic every time I stop & there’s a car coming up behind me. There’s still a little extra anxiety, but that’s getting better too. Healing – physically and psychologically – can take quite a bit of time.

Today’s update. Still hurting. PT starts tomorrow. Have these insanely picky, difficult clients in town I have to drive around and I am just still jittery about driving. Causing me stress. Cannot sleep since this Just due to pain and stress due to how much this is currently costing me out of pocket. We have hired an attorney but I won’t see anything for a long time to cover my current out of pocket costs. My health insurance sucks due to preexisting (apparent let me breaking a leg 20 years ago is a major pre existing condition…really) so I am paying out the nose right now, at a time when I have had plenty of other expenses (my dog got hurt and had surgery).

I guess I needed to vent because this client is so difficult to deal with. We took them to dinner and I have NEVER been so embarrassed in my life. The waitress likely cried when we left. She got a GIGANTIC tip from me for that. They leave tomorrow so I can breathe. I still have three companies worth of books to finish for last year. Ahhhh.

    Janelle needs a vacation. NOW!!!

Oh good grief you should have heard it. She’s from Austin, I love Austin, but it is now apparently the most sophisticated place in the land. I want a bla bla martini, EXACTLY THis WAY! Um where’s my bread (waitress still making drink). I also want (about ten lbs of seafood). Nope this sucks. In Austin we have…. drink sucks. “I refuse to drink this bring me something you can handle”. 🙄 These oysters aren’t big enough. I am about two degrees too hot. It went on and on and on and on……

This coming from me living in OC. I hear and see a lot but I have never experienced this level. Oh and driving by the coast. “This isn’t anything special”. 🙄🙄🙄🙄. Cannot be pleased.

It went further and further though “I only fly private” Ugh babe i picked you up from the Southwest terminal. “I have Hermes bags (for her pronounced HER MAYS) but I don’t carry them”. I know………..any name you can imagine……

    I am smiling and nodding.
