I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this show yet, but I started watching Jane the Virgin (begrudgingly, with my sister when she was crashing with me 6 months ago) on Netflix. I thought it was going to be awful, but was pleasantly surprised. It’s smart and funny and self-aware, and I recently cried during an episode with a plot twist I did NOT see coming.March 13, 2017 at 3:14 pm #677711
Copa I also think Jane the Virgin is fun to watch – the story line doesn’t totally pull me in, but you called it, self-aware and hilarious. Plus I love the actor who plays Jane – she uses her social media platform in part to signal-boost actors of color. There was also a Planet Money episode about the show (and other telenovelas, including the Spanish language Jane the Virgin that it’s based on) that was really interesting.
I don’t think it’s on Netflix, maybe Amazon prime, but I was also really drawn in by the show Awkward. It’s addicting.March 13, 2017 at 3:32 pm #677715
I would just like to say that I absolutely LOVED Community and I’m not really into comedy/sitcoms. The paintball and pillow fort episodes had me like crying with laughter and I am just totally in love with Abed. That’s my contribution.
Oh and yes, Stranger Things was awesome.March 13, 2017 at 3:41 pm #677716
Anyone watching Big Little Lies on HBO?March 13, 2017 at 3:52 pm #677718
I am! I read the book after it first came out and it’s my favorite Liane Moriarty book. So far, I like it enough.
Her last book wasn’t nearly as good as some of others, IMO.March 13, 2017 at 4:23 pm #677724
I have avoided her books….I thought I’d read one and didn’t like it, but I think I must have been wrong. I bought the book and am trying to read it in time with the show.
Any reccs for her other books?
I love the show!! With that cast they could hardly do bad, though.March 13, 2017 at 5:01 pm #677728
I read Big Little Lies and I am really liking the HBO show.
@Anonymousse – I read What Alice Forgot and I liked that one. I don’t usually read her books and I think those are the only two I’ve read. I liked them so I don’t know why I don’t pick up more of hers to read.Except that they aren’t my usual type of books.
My daughters got me watching Jane the Virgin. I didn’t think I would like it but it’s been fun. However, I’m not sure about this part where it jumps to three years in the future. I’m not liking the place some of the characters are in. I’ll give it some more time and see where it goes.March 13, 2017 at 8:26 pm #677744
Big Little Lies is easily her best. The others are pretty good. Her newest one is her weakest. I’m annoyed I even read it.March 14, 2017 at 8:39 am #677796
I really liked the three Liane Moriarty books I’ve read: The Husband’s Secret, What Alice Forgot, and Big Little Lies. They’re just fun to read – not literary sensations by any stretch.
I watched the first episode but was distracted, so need to start over. I love the cast!March 14, 2017 at 8:43 am #677798
The Husband’s Secret. That’s the other one! That one was pretty good too.
I like fun, engaging books. They’re a nice distraction.March 14, 2017 at 9:48 am #677823
I loved No Tomorrow on Netflix (Canada). It was quirky, cute and entertaining. And by entertaining, I mean the guy was really hot. 🙂 lolMarch 14, 2017 at 8:03 pm #677909
I enjoyed that show too! Shame it’s probably not going to be renewed. Apparently Joshua Sasse’s other show Galavant is quite funny too but it also didn’t last.
That said he did our Kylie wrong so I think I’m patriotically required to hate him right now.
