True story: the college town I went to grad school in was adjacent to the state’s capital city, but in a fairly rural area. There weren’t a ton of great restaurants, and Olive Garden was pretty popular.

I haven’t been to an Olive Garden in at least 20 years and I am going to keep it that way. Ha

Honestly, I like the occasional trip to Olive Garden. Haha. I recognize it for what it is, but it’s like Taco Bell or Chipotle. The last time I went was about a year and a half ago, when I met up with a friend who lives in Canada in NYC. She’d never been — they don’t have it in Canada — so we went! Depending where you live, yeah, it might actually be an exciting outing — at least just to see what all the fuss is about. If anyone has ever seen Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Kimmy’s half-sister Kymmi is from Indiana and obsessed with the idea of “O.G.” because they don’t have it in her small town.

Oh man, thanks for the laugh LW. “wanted the lasagna for some reason…wasn’t like the commercials!” Lolololol

Well, your bf sucks at communication. If he chooses the silent treatment over using his words, that doesn’t bode well for your future. Wouldn’t you rather be with someone who is excited to eat faux-Italian with you?

All the “nice” restaurants around where I grew up were mid-level chains like this – Applebee’s, Ponderosa, Chi-Chi’s, etc. I went to my junior prom with a huge group of girlfriends, and we had dinner at Olive Garden!

If Olive Garden can ruin your relationship, then it wasn’t much of a relationship. Something so petty can’t ruin a serious relationship. It sounds like it’s over, but if it’s not, you should end it.

Well don’t go to Olive Garden, because its not that good. RedRoverRedRover you are right, having a bad time at a restaurant shouldn’t ruin a good relationship. I think I am going to break up with him.

Just to clarify everyone the video game was not the issue, he just thought we were doing something else for dinner.

That is even more bratty on his part. He could have just said “I really don’t want that to eat tonight”.

This trip to Olive Garden did not cause your problems. His attitude that night was a symptom of the same issue that’s causing him to act this way. Talk to him about why he’s acting the way he’s acting, but sounds like he’s just over the relationship and instead of ending it, is just pouting.

It sounds like he could have been crabby for an unrelated reason and has poor communication skills. If he really did get that angry because he had to stop playing video games if he was to go with you by his choice than he sounds like he has some growing up to do.

I remember when Olive Garden used to be in Canada – I loved their salad dressing. Am I weird? lol

No, I have fond memories of trips of endless salad – I loved that dressing.
