Whatever, Carolann. I spend 2 hours a week volunteering, helping very poor people, directly, in their homes. I’m also a donating member of the ACLU and SPCL. Since you asked. But this isn’t about me.

You are giving exactly the same arguments that every white person who complains about the “ghetto” and “lower class people” (you did that on another thread where the poster was using slang) does when confronted about not being PC. It’s old.

My husband grew up in housing projects in one of the highest crime cities. But he’s white, he doesn’t live there anymore. He knows the term “ghetto” is pejorative and offensive and he doesn’t use it. If he did say something that offended someone, he’d apologize, not start listing out all his black friends. Just recognize that you ARE offending people when you use that term, and you do appear superior. You can argue all you want, but it’s true.

Honestly, how hard is it just to use the name of the neighborhood you’re referring to, if you’re talking about something that happened there, and stop saying “ghetto?”

Olive garden is such blah food! There are much better frozen lasagnes at the grocery store. I recommend you try them if you don’t want to make your own. (Personally I find it very easy to make a lasagne from scratch but it does take a bit of time). I agree with the others…your boyfriend was being really immature. The whole wanting to stay home to play video games thing is something a 12 year old does…it’s not right for an adult to be like this. Then to be angry with you. He could have enjoyed a beer and had a nice night out with you and instead he sulked. Nice.

Bravo to you Kate for having the fortitude to read through her almost illiterate rantings. I just can’t with her. Anyone who wants to remain that willfully ignorant about race and class in the U.S. is beyond any kind of help that they could get on DW.

The organization I volunteer for is national and definitely helps keep people in her old neighborhood from starving, and of course her president is going to defund it. The logic.

what are you hoping to get out of writing here, OP? like, you just want to argue with some people over the internet instead of improving your obviously pathetic life?

People from Ohio love to travel but also love a sense of the familiar. So – on New Years go somewhere you know in Times Square.

“…leaves everyone wondering why tourists visiting New York are eating at an Olive Garden?” hahaha, this.

Probably because people from Ohio don’t generally have access to good Italian restaurants (as opposed to people in the NY/NJ area, for example) so they think Olive Garden is a good place to go. It’s like when I went to visit relatives in North Carolina, that was the only time I went to an Olive Garden because they loved it and wanted to go. To be fair I haven’t been to one in like 15 years, but I know it won’t be good as what I can get at like 15 other restaurants in a 10 mile radius.
