Hi everyone. I’m totally bummed today because we will be having our kitty put down this afternoon. Some of you may remember that I hijacked Juliecatherine’s thread about her dog last month (JC, I hope your pup is still doing well!!) Our cat has renal failure, and despite our best efforts, her condition got much worse this week. She hasn’t eaten since Monday and is clearly hurting. We’ve tried to keep her comfortable with pain meds, but it’s time. It just really, really sucks. She’s only 10 years old and is just the best kitty. Never hisses or scratches, super social, loves to snuggle, and has the most soft, silky fur (until the past week when she stopped grooming altogether). We got her right after I moved in with my then-boyfriend, now-husband, and she’s been with us through getting married, buying a house, having a baby. Our four-year-old had to tell her goodbye this morning, and it just broke my heart. I know you all will understand how much it sucks. Sigh.July 21, 2017 at 9:06 am #694497
Fur-baby bump…July 21, 2017 at 9:23 am #694503
I’m so sorry. I was there 11 years ago, and it was awful. My doggy is almost 11 now. I wish you strength.July 21, 2017 at 9:25 am #694505
Aww, I am so sorry! Me and my kitty Jupiter are sending love to you and your family in this difficult time.July 21, 2017 at 9:33 am #694507
I’m so sorry! I’m mid-snurffle over here! Pets are wonderful companions and it’s really hard to lose them.
I know this isn’t the same, but my foster kitty is being adopted tonight after like six months with me, so we’ll be saying our goodbyes. Six months, and I love her to pieces because she’s floppy and has mitten feet and acts like a goof. So I can’t imagine how hard it is to say goodbye to your mitten-footed buddy of 10 years!
I hope it at least brings you some comfort to know she won’t be in any pain anymore.July 21, 2017 at 10:39 am #694517
My cat turned 10 this year, I can’t remember life before him. I’m sorry! It stinks super hard. Make sure you take the weekend (and following weeks) to grieve. 🙁July 21, 2017 at 10:52 am #694519
Aww man. I’m very sorry Vathena. My dog passed in 2013 after 13 years with me. And I have two cats now, I know how much it hurts. You gave her a happy life and she was a happy cat, I’m sure. Big hugs to you.July 21, 2017 at 2:53 pm #694557
So sorry Vathena! I love my furbabies so much so I know how you are feeling! WE had to put my 9 year old cat down last year and it was terrible! I hope you feel better soon!July 21, 2017 at 2:58 pm #694558
I was at the vet today so they could take blood from my dog to make sure he’s good before refilling one of his prescriptions. I noticed they had a candle on the desk with a sign, “When this candle is lit, someone is saying goodbye to a beloved pet,” and asked that people speak softly and be respectful. It wasn’t lit, but anyway, I thought of you and I hope you’re ok.July 21, 2017 at 3:04 pm #694559
I’m so sorry @vathena, it’s so very hard to lose a furbaby 🙁July 21, 2017 at 3:28 pm #694564
Thanks, everyone. It’s over…our sweet kitty has left us. Our vet has that too, @kate (the candle). We actually opted for the at-home euthanasia. I’m so glad they offer it. It was peaceful, but still feels terrible. We already know we will have a kitty in our lives again at some point, because we’re kinda suckers like that, but it will be awhile before we are ready. Right now I’d have some unfairly high expectations of another cat.
Thank you all again for the kind words. Snuggle your animals for me!July 21, 2017 at 3:49 pm #694566
I’m so sorry Vathena! This is so rough. You sound like such a good fur-mom!
