“She is as feminist in practice as a chubby 42-year-old man wearing a Blackhawks jersey is Jonathan Toews.”
Lol. The first thing that made me laugh today. Thanks you!May 19, 2017 at 1:39 am #687433
That was a pretty good article em. And pretty much on point.
However, let me say that if we buy Hillary as a feminist (when she stayed with her husband after all his shenanigans), then we must accept Ivanka as one too. Just may be not one accordingly to liberal standards.
I do think she is a hypocrite, but hey if she keeps her mouth shut before her dad for another decade, she could end up owning a billion dollars. Most us do it in our jobs for a lot less pay.May 19, 2017 at 1:58 am #687434
HRC as a feminist role model always confused me too.May 19, 2017 at 6:30 am #687446
What does staying with her husband have to do with her being a feminist? Wanting equal rights and opportunities for women – working for that your entire life – is now barred because she forgave her husband’s infidelity? Give me a fucking break. I’m so over this whole Hillary narrative. She’s a lawyer who fought against injustice before her public life. She fought for health coverage. She was secretary of state. Her whole adult life was about service and people have the fucking temerity to question her in a way they would never fucking questionable man. You want to know who should question their damn feminism – everyone who has decided to hold her to some ridiculous standard no one else is ever held to. Her husband did something wrong and so of course that is an indictment on her. On her values. Yeah, that’s how that works. All you people that were all “but her emails” “but she’s a Washington insider” “but she actually knows how government fucking works” How’s life now? How is having a bigoted despot with the intellectual capacity of a fucking moron running things working out for you. Lives have already been lost because he’s such a raging idiot who has never read the inside of a goddamn book and never given a day of service in his life. As far as I’m concerned that’s blood on the hands on the people who put him in power… The ones that voted for him and the ones that didn’t vote for her. So don’t compare her to Ivanka. When Ivanka actually does something that doesn’t just benefit herself, her family or her bottom line, when she minimally achieves something – anything – on her own instead of having it handed to her go ahead a use their names together in a sentence until then fuck that noise.May 19, 2017 at 6:34 am #687447
Bravo.May 19, 2017 at 6:40 am #687448
Yes! Because a true feminist would kill her career before it even really started by very publicly divorcing a popular sitting president. Genius.May 19, 2017 at 6:56 am #687449
Yes to what Firestar said. Hillary know her shit, she was a lawyer during Watergate, she ran the State Department, she’s dealt with all the criticisms aging women get, and more. And about her not divorcing her husband? You would really hold it against someone who tries to work on their marriage rather than divorce? Again with ridiculous standards.
On the other hand, Ivanka talks about “architecturing” her life and sounds way more like someone who says what she needs to say to not be cut out of the will. How are they even in the same breath?May 19, 2017 at 7:18 am #687450
Yeah – I don’t get the connection between wanting equality and “I know what’s best for everyone’s marriage and if he cheats you MUST leave.” They had their deal. Not what I’d do, but not for me to dictate.
Part of the concluding remarks: What I am saying, here, is that we are racing toward the day when an administration flack will break down and yell, “Look, the president’s a fucking horse’s ass, okay? He’s fucking stupid! He’s dumber than hell! It’s like talking to a jar of mustard! I know forks—multiple forks!—that could think circles around him! When he sits up too fast you can hear the bean rattling around in his head! What the hell do you want from me???”May 19, 2017 at 8:17 am #687456
It is possible to not think Hillary is a good person and still believe that Trump is vastly vastly worse.May 19, 2017 at 8:23 am #687458
I don’t think that was really the point here, though, it was about Ivanka’s bogus feminism being discussed alongside Hillary Clinton’s feminism or lack thereof.
And really? She’s a bad person? There’s ANY comparison between her integrity and Trump’s??May 19, 2017 at 9:11 am #687467
I believe Hillary Clinton is like any other well established politician: If you get in her way, she will run you over. I have no doubt that she carefully weighs the pros and cons of every relationship, personal and professional for what it might accomplish for her overall aspirations. I’d rather have her as an ally than an enemy.
That said – I expect the same from Bernie Sanders and any other high profile Democrat.
And that said I think she is an ideal feminist – she plays the same game, the same way as the guys and she runs circles around most. Despite this last miserable failure, she keeps swinging for the fences. She was an attorney, she was a Senator, she was the Secretary of State and she was the first woman to be nominated as the fucking presidential candidate for the United Fucking States of America and she didn’t get there by playing nice and cleaning up the coffee cups in the conference room. She gets criticized because she’s not as attractive as Palin, smiles too much, smiles to little, is evasive (does anyone remember the non answers heard during Iran Contra hearings), wears pants suits, doesn’t make cookies, has short hair, has big hair, has hair and she keeps going.May 19, 2017 at 9:55 am #687475
Eh, to me HRC rather dismally implies that (in our fucked up and deeply sexist nation) the only real path to run for woman to run for the Presidency is to first marry one… That’s fucking depressing. Go ahead now and rail at me now all you want. But the fact remains, HRC was the ONLY women to ever land such nomination. And she’s the ONLY former first lady ever to run. Coincidence? I think not. And that’s fucking sad. Especially when there were far more better candidates of her sex available. Elizabeth Warren… cough. cough. Worse, the real tragedy is that HRC was a such a dismal disappointment, too. I fear it will be a long time until another even gets a shot.
