We do have evangelicals and it seems that it doesn’t occur to them that people shouting, “Blood and soil,” are calling for ethnic cleansing and there is nothing pro-life about ethnic cleansing. They don’t care about anything but abortion.August 22, 2017 at 2:46 pm #697932
They’re also very concerned about gays and transgendered people and in maintaining close to absolute white monopoly on power in America.August 22, 2017 at 9:27 pm #697976
The person you talked to is a fucking idiot. End of story. Dumb people are dumb people. Fuck her. Never talk to her again. Seriously. Tell her to go fuck herself next time she spews her utter bullshit.August 23, 2017 at 6:41 am #698012
It is Facebook. The panel of Trump supporters on CNN this morning all said they don’t trust the news media at all, and their only source of info is videos they see on Facebook. They think Charlottesville was just a big conspiracy, with actors bussed in to act out a controversy.
None of them were able to bring up any of these videos on their phones (I think FB and Google are cracking down and removing these fake videos more and more) but CNN went hunting for a video they said they saw of “people with BLM tee shirts getting off the same buses as people in kkk tee-shirts.” Turns out it’s just a video of some Joe Schmoe sitting in a car talking about how his *friend* said *she* saw this happening.

@BGM I told her the original rally was a white separatist rally. They were using the statue as a place and excuse to hold a rally. I told her they were chanting, “Jews will not replace us,” and, “Blood and soil.” At first she thought I was talking about those people who are trying to tear down statues and I told her no, I was talking about the white supremacists who scheduled the rally and that there was then a second rally to protest the white supremacists. I explained that the blood and soil chant was an ethnic cleansing chant that came from the Nazis. She was stunned. About as stunned as I was that she knew so little.
Somebody has to bring people out of their box.August 23, 2017 at 8:15 am #698016
@kate I’m glad that Facebook is taking them down but they are probably too slow to do it. Things like that can go a long ways in 24 hours.
I think people are desperate to believe that Trump will deliver on his campaign promises. They hate to think they were that stupid and gullible.

No one is coming out of their box. They trust any video they see on Facebook because their “friends” posted it, and it doesn’t matter that they have no idea the original source. Or that the frickin guy in the video isn’t on the scene and never was.
It’s intellectual weakness and laziness. Going off of FB to watch actual news isn’t something they want to bother with, and even though tbh the news is pretty dumbed down, you do have to follow it and pay attention on a regular basis or you lose the context. But FFS! It doesn’t take that much effort to spend 15 mins a day either reading headlines or watching a top-of-the hour recap of the day’s biggest stories. It makes me want to scream, how stupid and lazy people are. It’s not just Trump supporters either, there are plenty of people on the left that “don’t trust” the media but believe what they see on Facebook.
Guys, investigative journalism is fucking real! They’re telling you the truth. They’re reporting what happened and then talking about it. You need to be only minimally alert and intelligent to pay attention to it and draw your own conclusions. God.August 23, 2017 at 8:26 am #698021
I subscribed to the New York Times this past weekend to help support investigative journalism.August 23, 2017 at 8:34 am #698022
Good! I meant “guys” as in people like your friend, not people on this thread 🙂August 23, 2017 at 8:41 am #698024
I realized that. I was following what Wendy suggested last week in saying we need to support the media by subscribing to newspapers.August 23, 2017 at 8:48 am #698027
when you have idiot friends who only watch fake news…
I find this site to be relatively bipartisan. There just happens to be more repub stories now because, well, fake news. However, they had no problem correcting Hillary on the campaign trail or Obama during his presidency.August 23, 2017 at 8:54 am #698030
Yeah, but the people like I’m talking about would never bother to check a fact-checking site. They wouldn’t trust whoever is checking the facts. They truly only “trust” their “friend” network on social media. They’re not necessarily bad people, just lazy and dumb it seems like. And they don’t believe they are racist, or bad, so they’re going to reject anything that suggests Trump supporters include KKK, Nazis, and white supremacists.
