I swear I remember this – people were giving the guy shit for the way he talked about her appearance. I want to find the letter on here so I can see how the advice compares.July 4, 2017 at 2:06 pm #692699
Yes, it was here.July 4, 2017 at 2:35 pm #692703
Yeah it was. My issue with it was his need to state that she’s okay looking, not beautiful, not his type, like that’s his advantage that he has over her. EMK didn’t pick up on that, but Wendy did, and called out the sexism that’s going on.July 4, 2017 at 3:08 pm #692708
Ew. I’m totally with Kate.
It’s so transparent: He mentions it only to claim he doesn’t care about it… really???
“Just so you know, I’m making a huge sacrifice in my superficial standards, but I don’t even care. She should be grateful that I decided to give her a chance at all, not that I’ve even noticed. It’s completely irrelevant to everything else I’m about to say, but you should know I’ve been so decent as to not point this out to her.”July 4, 2017 at 3:21 pm #692709
This is the letter he sent to DW (second one down) in May of this year:July 4, 2017 at 4:25 pm #692715
Wendy’s advice is so much better.July 5, 2017 at 3:35 pm #692846
The comments are yucky. I think I’m more put off by the comments from women than the comments from men. One is like “I significantly out earn my husband but it’s ok because he hunts and fixes stuff. He’s manly and I need manly.”
You know what’s manly? Having a penis*. That’s kind of manly. A man who does the dishes is still manly.
* Manly is not limited to having a penis. If you’re a man because your brain says you’re a man, then you’re a man and thus you are manly. If you want to wear a floral print dress and you are a man, you man up and make that the manliest prettiest floral dress ever worn by a man. You do you.
