I agree with Leslie. She’s new, she made a mistake, she corrected it and apologized. I don’t think we need seppuku from her or anything 🙂
Jessica, now that you’ve read the other letter, you can see the dramatic difference between yours and the other one: you are saying “I want to help them. How do I do that?” and they’re saying “I am helping them, and they won’t listen to me. How do I make them listen to me?” TOTALLY different scenarios, mostly because the second one assumes she’s right about it all.
As for your other letter, just remember that a lot of people can be great at their jobs but TERRIBLE at managing people. I always forget to give interns work when we have them, so I usually have to remind them to physically get in my face to demand stuff to do. I’m just so not used to people being able to help me that I forget they’re there to do it! It seems like you’re leaving that job, and you’ve got to do what’s best for you, but if you give it another shot I’d suggest just using it as a stepping stone perhaps to another similar firm where your knowledge and experience gets you a better position doing what you WANT to do.September 10, 2017 at 3:52 am #716617
