I can’t believe I forgot sunscreen. Do not tan, wear a hat, use fake tan on your face and body, and actually wear SPF 50 every day even if it seems like overkill. The SPF 15 in your moisturizer or makeup doesn’t count. And you’re never too young to start using Olay skin care products. Start now!

@kate, you just reminded me of the Baz Luhrman song, “Don’t forget to wear sunscreen” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTJ7AzBIJoI

Further to Kate’s point, get a good pair of sunglasses and wear them! Seriously, I have sensitive eyes so I squint a lot in the sun, and I think wearing sunglasses all the time (and therefore never squinting) has saved me from crow’s feet, for a few extra years at least. I turn 40 this year and you can hardly see any lines around my eyes. Even if your eyes aren’t as sensitive as mine, everyone squints a bit in the sun.

@booknerd haha, my bad. Not everyone can enjoy the two buck chuck or 4 dollar wine without consequences.

And to further the sunscreen point – I’ve been wearing moisturizer with SPF 45 or higher in it since I was 13 – every single day. The result? When i tell most people I’m 30 they don’t believe me. I look younger than a lot of my friends because I’ve avoided the sun and taken good care of my skin. There’s a lot to be said for that.

And drink lots of water – that’s good for your body and skin!

Yes to sunscreen. @Veritek, same here. I’m 33, religiously have used 50 SPF, and people think I am in my early to mid twenties. But…I also don’t have kids so I’m sure that has something to do with it, too.

Yeah, seriously on the kids thing. Before I had Jackson (when I was 35), people regularly told me I looked at least 5 years younger (and I believed them because I thought the same thing). After 3+ years of parenting (including many, many sleepless nights, long days, very little “me time,” etc., etc.), I think I pretty much look my age now. There’s a photo on our wall of the three of us when Jackson was 4 days old and I swear I look like I’m about 27 or 28. I have aged A LOT since then. All my friends my age who don’t have children look younger than the ones who do. Oh, but it’s worth it, yada, yada, yada… 😉

That said, I do occasionally still get carded. When it’s very dark and very late and the bartender is basically carding everyone — but I’ll take it!

My advice? Travel as much as you can, do as much as you can on your own – it will change your perspective and help you learn so much about yourself. Definitely go abroad if you can, and actually live there rather than just on holiday if it’s feasible.

Also date lots of different types of guys and don’t worry about marriage just yet. I’ve been worried about marriage since my teens and I feel like I’ve missed out on so much fun and dating because I have been horse-in-blinders about that one goal. Now that I’ve matured and gotten more laid back, I’m starting to lighten up about it and just enjoy being with a guy, but…now I’m 32 so I’d really like to get married soon-ish. AHH.

Also, I have been using moisturizer with SPF (only 15 though, oops) every day since my early 20’s, as well as night cream and eye cream (& I take my makeup off completely every night and wash my face before applying), and people tell me my skin is amazing and that I look like I’m 25. I have absolutely zero crow’s feet and really no wrinkles to speak of. So I definitely second what everyone else says – and will be upping my SPF use very soon, too!

yep, no kids so that helps with looking younger lol

Wendy, I got carded while out with my redheaded friend a few weeks ago (I’m 30, she’s 28) And when the bartender read our IDs she just kinda laughed and said “I can never tell with Gingers, you people age well.”

Then she apologized if she offended us. No offense whatsoever 🙂

That’s funny about the gingers. I’m a ginger! I still think I look younger than I am.
We were just in Moab last week, and I got a little sunburnt through my pants. I glow in the dark.

And I miss sleeping. That’s probably what’s aging me.

I think that might be true about gingers. When I think of redheads I know who lived into their 80s and 90s, they did seem to age a little more slowly than average. Until his mid-80s or so, my grandfather, a redhead who died at 90, always looked at least 10 years younger (and his hair was red almost until the very end).
