Update From Our Holiday Book Drive

Our fourth annual holiday book drive earlier this month, our biggest one yet, resulted in 200 books being sent to students at four different schools around the country. Those students have been receiving their books over the last week or so before they leave for winter break, and I wanted to share some photos and words their teachers and schools have sent. Above is a photo from teacher, Ogo A., who says: “Thanks so much to you and your readers for the awesome books. My students were really excited and began reading them straight away.”

And if this doesn’t warm your heart, then it must be made of ice:

From this class’ school Facebook page:

“Miss. Klco entered her class into a popular blogger’s book drive. Her class was chosen to make an Amazon registry where each student was able to choose one book they really wanted. The class hoped their books would be bought from random strangers that read the blogger’s page but knew it was unlikely for every book to be bought. After an hour of the blog being posted, five books were bought by random strangers. In less than 6 hours after the blog was posted, every single book was bought. Today the students were in complete shock when they opened their book for the first time. #TrueMeaningOfChristmas #CreatingALoveForReading #WeAREReaders”

Here are some of Susan N.’s students with their books:

She said: “I JUST gave out books at my holiday parties and the kids were thrilled! They couldn’t believe they got to keep them.”

And here’s one more from Ogo:

Thanks, again, to those who contributed to the success of this drive by sending books and/or sharing the link to the drive with your friends and family. Because of you, 200 students get the gift of reading this holiday season and the gift of knowing they matter enough for strangers on the internet to spend time and money making their holiday a little brighter. That’s a pretty wonderful thing.

  1. It’s been hard to get in the Christmas spirit this year but this definitely warms my heart! The kids just look so excited!

  2. I love this. Buying for this drive was my favorite holiday purchase. 🙂

  3. So so amazing. Makes me so happy to see this!

  4. How sweet! Unfortunately I have not been able to participate in the book drives, but the next one I definitely will try. I love the thought of children receiving the books they want to read. I have always loved reading (I was a slow learner with reading) and I am trying to pass my love of reading to my daughter. Even though she is only 6 months she loves story time before bed time. ???
