Updates: “In Love with a Recovering Addict” Responds

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing now. Today we hear from 20-year-old “In Love with a Recovering Addict” who wrote in in July after she found the site “while Googling if it’s normal to feel sick after inhaling helium.” She was wondering if there was any way she could get her parents to support her relationship with her recovering addict boyfriend, especially since she and her boyfriend had started planning their lives together along with discussing kids. Keep reading to see if they’re still together.

I just wanted to let you know that we are doing great! I’m finishing up my last year at college and keeping up with my work, and he’s got a good job working in the city. He’s still sober and going strong. Thank you for all your great advice, I took all of it into consideration!

No word on whether the parents have come around, if kids are still being discussed, or whether inhaling helium is still an issue, but…we wish them well, right?

Well those are some good things I suppose! I hope the others are being addressed somehow…

  2. See, personally I’m more curious if his family is still “known for” rape, and how a family even gets known for rape.

LW, you never explained that (to my knowledge) and it still boggles my mind!

Bummer. My response to the original letter ranks as one of my own personal favorites. I’d love to do a scathing follow up — but there is just not enough meat here to sink my teeth into. Maddeningly vague update. Bah. 😉
