Updates: “The Bride’s Not The Crazy One” Responds

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing now. Today, we hear from “The Bride’s Not The Crazy One” who was afraid her mentally ill dad would cause a scene at her wedding if allowed to give a toast. Keep reading to see how her wedding turned out.

I was so surprised and pleased by how well my wedding went. Everyone said they had a great time, and, although it was a blur for me and my husband, we had a blast. My dad made it clear that he was working really hard to be “good.” I tried to take the suggestion to have my dad speak at the rehearsal dinner, but he wasn’t able to make it at the last second. He did end up giving a short speech at the reception and made a really offensive joke (that a lot of people booed!) but ended with a really sweet story. Overall, I couldn’t have imagined a better day.

Thanks for your and your readers’ advice. It really helped me calm down in the weeks before the wedding. — Happy Bride

So glad you had such a nice wedding!

I really appreciate it when people figure out how to create a win-win situation. Good on you, LW!

    Awkward!

    1. I love that people actually booed though instead of just going silent haha.

I want to know what the joke was!!

    1. Don’t you hate it when updates leave you with more questions?

      1. Yes. It sucks. I’d like to know what the joke was, if the LW can remember it.

This is the LW. I don’t remember the exact wording of the joke, but it was something about how my wedding was the opposite of 9/11. So…yeah.
