Weekend Open Thread

unnamed

Happy Halloween! (That’s the trolley bag I made for for Jackson to use trick-or-treating. He’s going to be Daniel Tiger, a character from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood who has a popular spin-off series on PBS Kids; I’ll update later when I have a photo of Jackson in costume).

Enjoy the festivities, and don’t forget Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend at 2 AM Sunday morning (sob). It’s gonna be dark for the next five months, which is totally depressing, but the good news is we get an extra hour this weekend. What are you gonna do with yours? I’m going to be painting. Saturday night Drew and I have a sitter, and Drew and I will be spending the evening in our new place having a painting party for two. (We’re painting four rooms, though I’m not sure we’ll get to all of them tomorrow night). I’m gonna make margaritas, and we’re gonna order tacos and try to make it fun even though, let’s be honest, there are about a million other ways we’d rather spend a Saturday night. But when we’re done (and we won’t finish it all on Saturday, but we hope to make a big dent), our new place will look great (um, hopefully) and be ready for the big move in another week and a half. Ooh, a fresh start. I love fresh starts.

I’m kinda excited for this weekend, I’m going to a Halloween party tonight, then my new lady friend who I asked for date ideas for a couple weeks ago is coming over saturday afternoon/night, and she is awesome. It’s been a long time since I’ve actually been excited about a woman, and she seems to like me quite a bit too, so that’s pretty great. We might go to my favourite country bar saturday night, but we haven’t decided yet. Also, I got satellite radio for my car and winter tires put on my car today, so that’s awesome.

Yes, do it! Actually, hm. Now I have an idea that it would be fun for the guys of DW to contribute to a holiday gift guide. I plan to do my own, but it would be font o have one for guys that was made up entirely of ideas for the DW men.

And have fun with the new lady friends. I love the first blush and excitement of a new relationship that seems promising.

I’m really excited about this weekend because…. the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival is coming to town! And I have tickets! Ahhhhhh! All the bacon samples you can eat, “bacon bucks” to buy bacon-inspired dishes, a commemorative glass, and the football game (WI Badgers of course) on big screens. I’m SO excited. Because with something called Bacon Fest, who wouldn’t be excited?! Even better is that the tickets were pretty expensive but my mom bought me, my husband and her tickets to go together. Fantastic.

Bacon Fest was absolutely amazing. We each piled in at least a pound of bacon (free samples!) and got a ton of other awesome stuff, most of which was included with the ticket. I got a free t-shirt (plus we all got Bacon Fest t-shirts and one other bacon-related t-shirt – mine says “You Had Me At Bacon”). We got bacon donuts, 8 mini bacon cupcakes of various flavors, 2 big bacon cupcakes, and tons of other stuff including a ticket to a hockey game that we went to last night. It was so much fun, but we were all in a bacon coma for the rest of the day.

So…we had a Halloween party at work today and we had champagne! It was fantastic. Champagne and…hot dogs??? Kind of weird, but I wasn’t the one who bought the champagne so I drank away. Tonight I’m headed to a friend’s house for a dinner party/greeting trick or treaters.
    .
Wendy I LOVE painting so I’m actually kind of jealous. It’s super fun to see progress and see color on the wall. My Saturday is probably going to be spent getting things done and running errands and reading. Sunday I’m helping a friend who I haven’t seen a while move into her and her husband’s new house. 🙂 Not too much planned, but sometimes that’s the best!

So I’m having lunch tomorrow with a guy I went on 1 date with, in 2009. I’m not sure how to feel about this. Backstory: We met on Match.com, went on 1 date that was somewhat bad, then he ignored any of my attempts at getting in touch, so I deleted him (we had been chatting online for awhile and on fb before actually meeting).
Fast forward to like, 2012-ish, he re-friends me under the pretense that he had seen someone he thought was me and wanted to say hi, and he apparently had a girlfriend, so I said, ok, whatever, let’s be “friends.”
As of July/August, it looks like his girlfriend is out of the picture (from what I can tell), and he suggests getting together sometime (not mentioning the girlfriend in any way- we’ve been friendly up to this point but that’s it). So, after long last, we’re actually having lunch. I want to get the story on the GF. Otherwise, I’m pretty ambivalent about this lunch thing. I may as well be painting an apartment…

Sooo, it was pretty fun! He’s a really nice guy, we have stuff in common, and we had a good lunch of burgers and then walked around afterwards. The girlfriend’s definitely out of the picture, but he’s also thinking about moving from our very expensive city back to his hometown-city, but isn’t sure. So we talked a lot about life stuff. Maybe we’ll hang out again. Definitely went better than I thought it would!

Aw, we did daylight savingstime last weekend in Europe, so no extra hours for me.

This weekend will be spent in getting a good start on NaNoWriMo. I’ve been wanting to write more since forever. I still have a million excuses, but I’ve been talking about this all year so I figure I might as well go ahead and do it. I guess it is a sort of fresh start from my very professional, very boring career.

    Wish me luck!

We only got 11 trick-or-treaters last night 🙁 so disappointing. Especially after I spent the afternoon decorating. Today I’m cashing in my birthday present and going for a massage/mani/pedi at a fancy spa and tonight we’re going to a fancy fundraiser for one of my husband’s clients. I bought a new dress from ModCloth (using Wendy’s link!) for the event. I think I’m going to have to pop open a bottle of prosecco when getting ready to keep the fancy theme going

Wendy your hair looks amazing! I also have wavy hair, but it very rebellious and does not like to behave itself. So I have to ask, what do you do to make it look so awesome. Does it naturally fall like that? Or is that the product of a straightener and a curling iron? I’m always looking for suggestions of how to get my hair to look nice like that.

Oh, thanks! You know, I was actually having a really good hair week, which never happens. I have good hair days here and there but never a whole week straight of good hair days. And there were a few things I did differently. First of all, I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins every day for over a month (as part of my trying to get pregnant regimen) and I think the effects are starting to show in my hair and skin (I like the New Chapter vitamins, for prenatal and everyday;I have been so busy getting ready for our move that in the mornings, I don’t spend any time “getting ready” and I just let my hair totally air dry after showering without even brushing it or putting any product in it. Once it’s totally dry, I dab about a dime-size amount of Moroccan curling cream through it. That’s it! No hair dryer or curling iron or anything.

Thanks! I’ll look into that curling cream. My poor husband, I’m starting to accumulate quite the collection of hair products haha
