Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine was pretty good. I’m happy to report that, after that rough stretch with Jackson last week and weekend, things were much better this week. It helped that it was finally warm enough to play in our neighborhood playground again and he was able to burn off some of his cabin fever. We did have a sad note though when our good friends had to put down their 17-year-old dog on Monday. I used the opportunity to start a conversation with Jackson about death, which I didn’t really prepare for in advance, but it went ok anyway. And then we made our friends a card and a bouquet of flowers and told them how much we would also miss their dog. Anyway, if you also find yourself in a position of discussing death with a young child, these articles (which I read after the fact) are helpful.
Changing topics, what are your plans for the weekend? Tomorrow we are celebrating my father-in-law’s 95th birthday (!) with extended family in Manhattan. I’m looking forward to eating cake, which has been my number one craving this pregnancy. At our friends’ going-away party a couple weeks ago, I had a piece of cake that I am still fantasizing about. It was cold yellow cake with chocolate frosting (from Whole Foods! And it was vegan!) and it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten and I wish I could have some every day. Or, at least every day until this baby is born.
Anyway, enjoy your weekend. Eat cake if you can!
