Jackson starts public school in TWELVE days! Twelve! In the meantime, with the exception of three mornings a week when Jackson is with his sitter, I’m juggling both kids on my own all day and all I want to say about that is it’s a good thing I can drink again. But when Jackson starts school in twelve days (twelve!) and his sitter starts watching Joanie a few hours a week, I’ll be able to catch my breath and do some things for myself again (exercise! go to the eye doctor! see the dentist! really fun stuff like that!). I’ll also be able to devote more time to DW again (and I thank you for being understanding in the meantime when I don’t always get a column posted or don’t have one up at the time you’re used to seeing one).

Today I took both kids to Coney Island (along with a friend and her daughter). It was Joanie’s first subway ride and I thought it was an appropriate destination for such an occasion. Jackson rode his first roller coaster, we ate hot dogs, he got a new pair of sunglasses, we all rode the Wonder Wheel, it was a lovely, if exhausting, New York summer day (and Joanie slept through most of it). Hope you are enjoying your final days of summer, too. Happy weekend!

I finally got my promotion I’ve been working from every angle for a year, actually longer. I’m a VP at that ratings company that starts with an N! I want a whole lobster stuffed in a martini glass.

Thanks! I wish I could link to the pic. It was unshelled, obvi. Legal Seafood says they can’t make it. The waitress took my phone in the kitchen to show the cooks but they said no. But they are going to take the warm lobster roll and put it in a martini glass sans bun. And I have champagne. So much effing pain through the past year, with the acquisition, and now I feel like I can breathe.

Tomorrow I’m heading up to my cousin’s house about 3 hours away to hang out for the weekend. She lives in a small town in the foothills of the Sierras. It’s going to be hot! She is my closest cousin (in age) and we were best buddies growing up. (My mom used to call us the Blonde Bombs.) We’re not very close these days, but I am really looking forward to spending some time with her and also meet her boyfriend.
Otherwise… I’m setting up stuff at work so that, come monday morning, I can get a bunch of it done and off my desk. (Hopefully I’ll be successful!)

Were you near any good wineries? I was in Plymouth, CA last month and the wine was amazing! (Shenandoah/Amador wine region)

Getting ready for Erika here in SW FL. Things looking good so far. Coming in as a tropical storm with 40 mile an hour winds and lots of rain at this point. Will have to keep an eye out as it gets closer. Have supplies and ready to hunker down. My office has already closed on Monday, so no pressure there. Just wait and see. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

My folks are getting prepped up too. They’re further inland so they won’t get hit hard, but still hoping it isn’t too bad.

Also prepping here, but I’m on the East Coast of the state. I’ve never been through a hurricane, but I’m hoping for a hurricane day Monday since hoping for a snow day is even too unrealistic even for me!

We’re meeting a rescue pup tomorrow, hoping its the right one for us. We lost both of our bulldogs within 2 months of each other (one a month before the baby, one a month after) and its so odd not having a dog. We want to make sure we get the right one. Its been a rough week with colic and a growth spurt, but we made it through.

I’m also prepping for this tropical storm since as of yesterday the verdict is to staff up at work on Sunday night. Not looking forward to sleeping on a cot in the office for a night or 2 but someone has to do it.
I have to think about snacks to bring and what type of clothes I can sleep in since I’m the ONLY female on the storm staff list this time around. Its like I’m going camping without the s’mores and campfire!

Happy weekend all! We’re throwing a “wine tasting” party, aka drink our wine and help is pick out wedding wine because we’re Costco-ing that ourselves. We have 11 bottles and 14 people, plus vodka and bourbon when the wine runs dry. Should be a fun night.
    .
And please let this be the only wedding-related activity this weekend, I’m so done with planning… Other than stressing over some thank you cards that didn’t make it to their destination and apparently means we’re terrible people or something. That was a fun couple of emails. And now I’m rethinking every card I’ve sent. I mean, there’s no way to prevent that and it’s not a reasonable thing to track, but now I’ve got some fun new anxiety!
    .
I’ve made some new work friends, so that’s a nice change from the last few years of not having an office job and having trouble meeting new people. And it’s a beautiful day outside. 🙂 Maybe I’ll go out and knit…

Hi! I’m eating Twizzlers and watching the Sopranos with my mom. We started watching this series – starting with the very first episode – about 3 weeks ago, and we are half-way through the final season! (Somehow, neither of us saw the show when it was on back in the day). What should we watch next? My other plans for this weekend include: do some final baby-related shopping on Amazon, write some long overdue thank you cards, and pack that hospital bag. My baby’s due date is one week from Monday, yikes! I also have about 10 union contracts to review for this deal that closes in two weeks. I hope I don’t go into labor before I wrap up work. Next week is going to be a busy one work-wise. I wish I could stop working now – I’m really tired. But I gotta say, the final days of (my) pregnancy haven’t been nearly as bad as everyone says they are. That’s been a pleasant surprise! But, yes, tired, very.

I live in Miami Beach, and I was a little on edge about my first hurricane, but, since it dissipated, we just had a full day of rain yesterday; that was it. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to work today, but the sun is shining today, so here I am, at an office where the A/C went out over the weekend. Also, finally finished Breaking Bad last night, after having started it about 2.5 months ago. What a show!
