Weekend Open Thread

Earlier this week, Joanie was in my lap screaming and it reminded me so much of a photo we have of Jackson making the same face (on the left) that I picked up my phone and snapped a photo of Joanie (on the right) for comparison. Same baby, right? Well, in some ways they’re a lot alike. They sure look similar, anyway. But their dispositions, at least at this point, seem pretty different. Despite evidence to the contrary pictured above, Joanie is actually a very calm baby. Jackson was not. He was — and is — very spirited. Joanie is, too — and man, does she have a set of lungs on her — but it’s a more mellow kind of spirited. Almost like she’s aware of her effect on other people. I know she’s much too young to be conscientious and empathetic — Jackson is barely old enough for those traits himself — but sometimes it just feels like she is. At any rate, I love my babies, and as much as I’m enjoying Jackson as the little boy he is now, I’ve enjoyed Joanie as a newborn and wish I could pause time and hang out here a little longer.

Anyway, happy weekend to all of you. My sister’s visiting (and meeting Joanie for the first time), and we don’t have any plans other than letting her get her fill of the Condellberry kids. What are you up to?

They could be the same baby! I’m glad you’ve really enjoyed the newborn stage with Jaonie, Wendy! If I remember correctly, it was a difficult stage with Jackson, so it’s nice to experience another side of this stage.

I’m on the train into Boston to indulge in a girls weekend with Kate and our friend from NYC! We’re staying at the W and getting spa treatments tomorrow, followed by shopping and a nice dinner. Then on Sunday we will cap off the weekend with Brunch at one of Kate’s and my favorite places. So excited for girl time!!

Wow, they could be twins!! I guess you’ll see how her features change as she gets older!
I don’t have much going on this weekend, but I have to say I’m super excited because in about 2 weeks I’ll be going to New York! Specifically Brooklyn. More specifically downtown Brooklyn (where I’ll be attending a conference for 4 days) and then Clinton Hill (where I’m airbnb-ing it for 3 days to be a tourist). I’m excited! If anyone has any suggestions of things to do/see/eat while I am there, I am all ears!

Fun! I love the next neighborhood over from Clinton Hill. I’ll try to write up some recommendations for you. Maybe we can even get together for a drink or coffee or something if our schedules line up.

Look at those two, with the same little faces! What great pictures. I hope you and your babies, Joanie and Jackson, and you and Drew and your sister have a very nice weekend.

Wow, that is a strong resemblance!

Even though he’s screaming, that is such a sweet picture of mama kisses! Love it.

Sometimes babies crying is their way of taking a deep breath.

Yay for the weekend! Is it still the weekend? I don’t even know anymore. I had my baby 6 days ago (6 already!) and life is now all about baby and trying to figure out how to do this. I feel like every day I learn a new trick but then a whole new issue pops up. Overall though, man I love this baby! It’s funny because he looks just like my sister looked when she was born, but he’s also the spitting image if his dad when he was a baby. But! He has my lips. That’s something right?! And his hair – I can’t figure out what color it’s going to be – looks like when the baby hair falls out, it could come in blond, red, or brown. Exciting times around here! (see? Life is all baby now.)

Watching Moose around the baby is also interesting. He is really interested in the baby but can’t quite figure him out. He’s definitely apprehensive about it, but curious – he just stares at the baby but kind of keeps a distance. And when the baby cries, Moose looks at me with a panicked look in his eyes – like he’s saying “what the fuck is happening? Is this normal!!!?” Ok, life is still about Moose too.)

What else? My sisters and mom are visiting. My mom has been with me for the last month. Thank God for sisters and mothers. I don’t know how I would have survived child birth and this last week without them.

    Hope everyone is well!
