Weekend Open Thread

Happy Friday, everyone! Here is a gratuitous picture of my baby because she’s seven months old, which is basically the peak of babyhood, and I’m trying to soak up these sweet moments as much as possible. Soon, they’ll be over and then, ack, I’ll have a toddler again! (I still have some PTSD from my first experience parenting a toddler, so I’m steeling myself for the years ahead and enjoying these last few months of relative ease while Joanie’s sole means of locomotion is rolling around on the floor and she doesn’t yet know how to say “no”).

Anyway, hope you all have a lovely weekend. I’m having dinner with friends tonight at a fancy restaurant one of our other friends runs (it’s such a prestigious position, that she’s even been “recognized” while we’ve been out to dinner at other places), so I’ll get to pretend to be a VIP for an hour or two, which will be fun. And tomorrow night Drew and I are going to a comedy show I got tickets for as a Valentine’s gift. What are you up to?

So cute! Tonight we’re going to dinner at a German/Swiss restaurant that we’ve been wanting to try. Tomorrow I’m going to be cleaning my apartment and baking a cake – on Sunday afternoon I have book club at a friend’s and then I’m having people over to my place for my boyfriend’s birthday. I’m looking forward to it!

I’m soooooo glad it’s Friday. A monster took over my baby last night. The monster made him get up to feed every hour, it seems. And the monster also made the baby get up at 4 am to play. My sweet, playful, hungry monster baby. Now, I can count on one hand the number of times that’s happened. He usually sleeps so well! When it does happen, I’m very thankful that it is such a rarity. How people cope with babies who don’t sleep through the night is beyond me!

Sleep regression is a real thing. Babies can be the best sleepers and then all of a sudden, it’s like, “Hey! What happened? Why are you up every other hour like a newborn?!” Usually, this happen around a big milestone, like rolling over, sitting up, crawling, walking, etc., and, of course, teething (or being sick, which I hope isn’t the case in your home!).
Related: Joanie started crawling this morning! In the last month, she started sitting up, eating solid food, sort-of-waving, and now crawling. Her baby days are definitely numbered. I’m going to miss them!

I just can’t. For years I made good money for doing absolutely nothing, and now that we’ve been acquired… I won’t even go into it. Anyway, we’re going to the drag show tomorrow night. The best drag queen, Destiny, made my hair extensions for my wedding. She sewed them on her sewing machine and dyed them blonde. She’s a hairdresser in the daytime. But really, I can’t anymore.

Now I somewhat can I guess. I got my weekly hairdo (I’m 85) and Lianne met me there on Newburyport Street and we went to brunch and got custom bloodies (hers no vodka), then got our nails did and went to the mall. We got a pinkberry and some makeup at Sephora.

And I won a raffle prize and went up on stage at the drag show! The show was fabulous and my girl Destiny did Nikki Minage. And Ariana Grande, haha.

Wendy, your experience of toddlerhood hits so close to home. It’s so nice to have an honest voice who tells it like it is. Thank you.

Got my second stitchfix today. Much better this round. Keeping 3/5 items.
This weekend is the first time this year we don’t have plans, which is really nice. Last night we celebrated my boyfriend’s grandmother’s birthday. That was nice. Today errands and lots of walks for my dog. Just lots of relaxing. It’s amazing.

She looks so sweet, I can’t wait for 7 months! In the midst of the newborn phase (6 weeks today) and I’m not enjoying it at all.

Aw, I’m sorry you aren’t enjoying it. I happened to enjoy the newborn stage the second time, but didn’t enjoy it the first time; I was so tired and emotional and the baby never stopped crying, so I can appreciate wanting that stage to hurry and be done! Six weeks is a turning period though — I hope things start getting a little better for you.

Thanks Wendy and Anonymousse. My biggest problems are that my first was a trick baby (she was easy and tricked us into thinking a second so soon was a good idea). He’s fussier than she was and super stuffy thanks to all the ‘love’ from his sister. Nursing is stressful because more than half the time he ends up screaming, even though he’s growing like crazy and clearly getting enough milk. Definitely looking forward to getting out in spring weather and a bigger baby.

It’s definitely hard having a baby during the winter. We’re cooped up a lot of the time, and my toddler gets a new cold every other week, which we all catch afterwards.
My second baby (I think) has been easier, and six weeks was the peak of crying. Sbe was so fussy every single night for weeks, but it’s better now. You’ll get through this. It changes so fast, good or bad.

Joanie is so freakin’ cute. I love this pic! Your comments about missing this stage already reminded me of something that happened last week. I bought a baby book and my husband was reading the things to fill in and looked up with tears in his eyes and said, “I already don’t want him to grow up.” O. M. G. I lost it!!! We’re both so excited for this baby!!!
    .
After a very busy work week, including fatigue that was akin to my first trimester, I was grateful for a lovely girls’ day with Kate today! A started prepping the nursery for painting while I was out. When I got home we took a short walk and then went to our favorite local place for an early dinner and I had a small glass of beer. It was so delicious!! Tomorrow we’re just doing more around the house to get ready for baby.

I miss having a baby. Or even a little kid. Mine’s 12 and he is taller than both his parents! His feet are HUGE! His voice has dropped. He is taller than most of his friends and could pass as a teenager, except his facial affect is still “Derrrrrrr” like a 12 year old! He is such a great kid though. Each stage is full on so I only miss the younger stages when I am reminded of how it used to be. This summer he goes away to sleepaway camp out of state for 3 weeks! Ready and not ready for that.
