Hello from Long Island’s North Fork, where Drew and I are on a mini vacation for the weekend, enjoying about 55 hours away from the kids and the hustle and bustle of the city. (And celebrating my 40th birthday a little early). Today, Saturday, I slept in til 7:48, about two hours later than I’m usually awakened by one child or another, and I feel like a new woman. We just enjoyed a four course (!) breakfast, wandered around the grounds where we’re staying and now the agenda for the day is: bike riding from farm stand to farm stand and vineyard to vineyard and hitting a few wineries for tastings and live music, followed by more wine drinking in the gazebo of our B&B, maybe a nap in there somewhere, and then a late dinner somewhere or another.

P.S. We saw the most amazing shooting star last night, with a long fiery tail and everything. I almost wished Jackson had been there to see it, too. Almost.

Hope you are having an equally wonderful summer weekend wherever you are!

I think that’s where I was earlier this month for my great aunt’s memorial service! It’s absolutely beautiful. When my dad went there as a little kid, to his grandparents’ summer house, it was all potato farms, but now it’s grapes and lavender. We took a ferry from New London to Orient Point or something? Have fun!!!

Yup, just checked the map. We ate lunch at Claudio’s in Greenport on the water, which was her favorite restaurant (seafood), and she would get shrimp cocktail and scotch on the rocks. I had the shrimp cocktail in her honor.

Yeah, it was a ways. The cemetery was in Southold and then we drove a while to lunch.

My parents had their honeymoon where you are, at a motel called the Sound View, in 1971, and it’s still there.

The ferry ride is beautiful too. We did it at sunset on the way, then in the afternoon.

Sounds nice. Turning 40 (this summer) was bizarre, to say the least. I’m constantly asking others around this age if they’ve also turned into 14 year olds. Nobody told me this would happen!!

2016 was an excellent years for Perseids, especially in terms of numbers, probably twice as much as usual. So it’s not a surprise that you saw one. You got lucky that it was a bolide with a tail and all.

Wow! That sounds awesome! Reminds me of activities you can do in Niagara on the Lake in Southern Ontario. There are some good bike paths that run along the the river cliffs and take you around to some of the wineries. Biking and drinking anyone?
