Weekend Open Thread

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-1-48-18-pm

It got cold here in New York this week — like, it went from 80 degrees last week to lower 40s this week — and it suddenly feels like fall is rushing by (we had to break out winter coats for the kids after having them in shorts last week!). But, of course, we still have some big fall milestones to come, including Halloween on Monday, which I bet a lot of you will celebrate over the weekend. We’ve got a couple Halloween parties and maybe some early neighborhood trick-or-treating Saturday evening. What are your plans?

Oh, and I’ve gotten a few baby-themed reader rec submissions recently, so I thought I might combine them into one big baby recommendation post. If you have a favorite baby product that made/has made life easier with a little one, send me a link and a short write-up and I’ll include it. Thanks, and have a wonderful weekend!

So, I live in he Halloween capital of the world – Salem, MA. We’ve spent the last few weekends playing host to friends who wanted to come experience the crazy that is Salem in October. This weekend will take the crazy to another level! Tomorrow my SIL and her husband and kids are coming up and we will go to a friend’s baby-friendly party. There will be beer, though, so that’s good. Sunday were going to escape the crazy for a few hours and go to my FIL’s so he can see all the grandkids in costume. My babe is going as a box of popcorn, which my husband and I made last Saturday night. I even glued popcorn to a hat that sits on his cute little head. The best part is the costume is attached to a warm cover for my ergo carrier so it’s super easy to get on and off. Last week we walked around Salem with him in it and we got asked by several strangers if they could take his picture.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Enjoy! If you’re driving in I highly recommend using Waze to navigate around the traffic. If you can take the commuter rail at all, that’s a much better option.

My plan this weekend: Avoid Wrigleyville at all costs. Watch the game each night from the comfort of the guy’s couch. Drink wine.

On my way into work, I pass Wrigley every day. There were people lined up at Wrigley and area bars at 7:30 a.m.! HARD PASS.

Yes, I’d take a hard pass, too. Whenever I think of Wrigley I think “sticky.” It’s like even the streets are permanently coated with beer.

We’re going to a party where the theme is “crimes & misdemeanors,” so we’re doing Scarface. Not very original, but my husband has his white suit from the wedding, and we ordered the Tony Montana wig and a maroon dress shirt and gold chains from Amazon. I found a long slinky teal dress and a blonde bob wig and the jewelry she wears. I’m going to CVS to get the right blush and lip color so I can do the whole early 80s face. I’m very detail oriented.

Oh, and Michelle’s skin was always perfectly matte in that movie and mine never is, so I’m going to get some mattifying products and report back on the other thread.

Ok, wtf. I’m in Subway. Wearing glasses, no makeup, the same clothes I wore to bed, and looking fairly haggard. Two middle aged townies are like, good morning! How you doing! Nice smile! Then I sit down to eat and they’re talking about me and whistling. STFU! This town is a really special environment.

The TV show I am working on FLIPPED to a UNION show — which is awesome as my salary truly doubled! (Eye-Haw!) We are winding down now with only four more shoot days after four grueling weeks. (Not so much the show, just the nature of the beast. Filming always means 12 hour work days — so with lunch and the commute it’s like 14 hour days… Whew.) And I not only have to do my job — but I feel that I have to be “ON!” all day long as I work closely with the Director, the Writers and the Actors as I am dealing not only with the set(s) but all the props — which CAN get a little crazy when we have, say, seven, cast members in a scene and the twenty five of so extras to deal with. Whew. Thankfully, we just do five day weeks. 🙂
    .
But — the REALnews is that I fly to NYC (dog-sitting for my uber successful friend) on the 9th and will be in Chelsea thru the 21st, when I fly to SF (where I will dog-sit for yet another friend — good thing everybody I knew in fabulous cities has dogs, eh?) and will be there thru Thanksgiving until the 28th.
    .
So, yeah. My two favorite cities! Back to back! November will be a BLAST. So excited to get away and breathe for a while. 🙂 And I am looking forward to get some writing done.

Mark- I’m semi-neighbors with your SF friends now! (I live on the other side of the hill from them in Noe.) Perhaps a T-giving drink at Smugglers Cove is in order?!

What is up with swingers?? I know this couple through my ex-bf, 40s, suburban, attractive, have kids. The last time we went to this Halloween party, the wife was making out with everyone in sight. Which, ok, you’re drunk, you’re having fun. But then last night she was immediately like, do you guys want to see my tits? Which are fake now, and her face is fake now too, and she was talking in a weird fake voice. One guy said sure, so she opened her top and showed her boobs. Then she cornered my husband and asked him if he swings. Or maybe she meant “us as a couple,” idk. I figured he could handle himself and walked away. He said some pretty good stuff to her. 5 minutes later she and her husband left, maybe to go to another party and find someone to bring back to their hotel room. I guess my issue is, why do you need to be SO blatant and aggressive?

She’s an exhibitionist. She gets off on flaunting mores and conventions. She’s insecure. Pity is appropriate.
