Weekend Open Thread

Phew, this felt like a long week, didn’t it? But despite all the bad post-election news, I’m feeling uplifted and optimistic this week, in large part because of your generosity, your kind comments and emails of support, and the general atmosphere of goodwill in this community. I feel a renewed sense of commitment to you and the site and to using this space to encourage people (myself included) to be the change they want to see. Thank you for inspiring me.

As we head into our first weekend of December, a quick reminder that when you shop through my Amazon affiliate link (which you can access here or through clicking the Amazon widget in the sidebar), I make a commission, which helps support this site. (As a side note: I make commissions on the purchases you make through the holiday gift drive, which I put toward making my own purchases from the teachers’ registries). And speaking of the teachers’ registries, there are still items left to purchase if you missed an earlier opportunity to contribute or if you’re feeling especially generous. Thanks, again, for making this year’s holiday book drive the most successful yet, by far. A couple of the teachers told me that the books they added to their registries in the “bonus round” will be going to their colleagues to give away to their students for the holidays, so in total, there will be over 300 students who will be gifted with books from you.

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend. I’m looking forward to catching up with a college bestie tomorrow who’s visiting from Chicago, plus hangin’ with neighborhood friends, and maybe spending some time with some of Drew’s extended family. What are you up to?

I’m taking my husband to his first NFL game for his birthday this weekend and so far it is still a surprise! I’m not telling him until we get to the hotel tomorrow (he thinks we’re just going for a weekend away and to tour Lambeau Field… he doesn’t know that I got us tickets). It will also be my first regular season NFL game. I’ve only been to one other and it was 10 years ago for a pre-season game. I’m SO excited!

This is a wild weekend. My husband is at a conference in Springfield, MA, and I’m currently at Noodles & Co drinking wine and I’m the only person in here. Also, the electronic key to my car stopped working so I have to use the valet key and it sets off the alarm every time.

But I made my sales goal this week ($6,084,000 of bullshit sold)! The way it happened was awesome. There is a client who, I found out last month, hates me so much he called my boss and demanded I be taken off the account. Yesterday he called her again to say he wanted a certain service. She had someone else who doesn’t like me take care of the proposal, it’s credited to me, and literally that exact amount got me to my goal and secured my kicker bonus. Karma, or the Lord. We have a list of kids we can sign up to buy Christmas presents for, and those little bitches are getting something extra special this year!

Thank you! I truly feel good. It’s a job I didn’t sign up for, first year in sales, all new clients, and no clue what I was doing. Time to find another job before I bite it next year!
