I can’t celebrate until I leave the library 🙁 I’m stuck here longer because I am DETERMINED to finish everything I planned to finish, and I fell asleep with my head on a desk for 2 hours. Oh, and it’s freezing in here. SIGH!

Today has been so long. After going to work yesterday at 5am, I was hoping to sleep until 10am today. Our upstairs neighbor decided to practice with his band late last night and the music was blasted from 1am to 6am. He didn’t hear me knocking on his door, so I called the cops…and he stopped, only to start back up again and I could not sleep at all. If I had known it would go on for so long, we would have gone to a hotel or I would have even slept in the car. Ugh, I hate inconsiderate people like that. My head hurts so bad from the lack of sleep. I’m gonna need a margarita or 3 after work.

That is THE WORST. I wish I could gather up my boyfriend’s considerate band (you know, the people who practice at reasonable hours in sound-proofed professional practice spaces) so they can kick your upstairs neighbors’ asses because people like that also give musicians/creative folks a bad name on top of being general shithead. People, there is a way to follow your creative dreams without ruining the universe for everyone else.

Yeah I agree. My husband is a musician too but he knows better and practices at a sound proof studio. At first he tried to befriend our neighbor, but realized he’s always a jerk.

Thanks Christy 🙂 I would have pinged you for a drink except part of the horribleness was endless meetings…

Banano and I are having a relaxing dinner in a neighborhood joint tonight, then tomorrow I’m grabbing drinks with some gal pals, then Sunday’s family night, so all nice things, but also leaving lots of space for lying in bed, yoga, puttering, and all the other ways I put my head on straight again.

Nearly everyone has left the office & it’s super slow, so I just (GASP) logged onto DW from the computer (instead of my phone, which I’ve been doing?)

I’m like irrationally annoyed that my boyfriend is tutoring after school today, because we’re supposed to hang out, & I wanted to see him RIGHT AFTER I left work? Sometimes I think I’d be happy with him being a househusband or something, because then I could come home, & he’d already be there? Like there’s some weird, 1950s traditional caricature man part of my brain at work here that wants WORK—>HOME—>HANDED A DRINK—>DINNER—>FAWNED OVER BY SPOUSE. & that’s not what I’m getting today.

I was going to try a new class at the gym, because I get home a bit earlier now & can make it, but when I checked the schedule IT IS A DIFFERENT CLASS NOW. Which throws me all off. fuuuckkk

I absolutely want a househusband, and in a really realistic way. Like I’ve thought about it extensively and really want to have a stay at home dad/husband. I got off work late last night – like 8, and when I got home Colin had a glass of wine poured for me and dinner was cooking and the house was clean and it seriously made me not hate the fact that I got off late. It was so amazing to come home to that environment. Except he didn’t fawn over me, but that was probably because he had 2 glasses of wine already. So essentially he’d be more like the real husbands of Denver.

I really really do. Like we’re semi planning for it. Obviously dependent on like 12 factors including but not limited too: whether the industry he’s in will allow part-time work, or alternatively how soon can be start his own firm, how much money I make at the time of conception (otherwise known as bangarang), our day-care options, career trajectories, what luxuries we’re willing to give up, etc. But imma make it happen.

I dunno, for me at least, househusbands are better in theory than in practice. My ex boyfriend was not working for a long time in our relationship, and it was just so fucking hard. And I think most of what made it hard is that I wanted him to be more motivated and he just wasn’t. There were times when I would resent him because I worked so f-ing hard and I would ask him “What did you do today?” and he would say “Play video games.” Even if he cooked me dinner or did yard work, it just never really felt like it compensated.
I know househusband doesn’t equal unmotivated. But I think I want to be with someone that at least holds down a job so I don’t have to shoulder most of the responsibilities.

Yeah, my bf would make a terrible househusband, actually. Like, he’s good at doing things— he does laundry, he does dishes, he’ll clean the bathroom counter, but he doesn’t cook, & he usually does the cleaning stuff at some ungodly hour of the night. So when I came home (in this “Fabello is a househusband” hypothetical situation), I’m sure he’d be playing video games while eating an entire bag of M & Ms. Because I’ve literally walked in on him doing that before, haha. If we had kids though, he might be the better one to stay home? (because I know him to be good about taking responsibility when he has to— it’s just, I don’t think he’d ever be motivated to greet me at the door, house cleaned, apron on, glass of wine ready for me to take while dinner is cooking? oh god, am thinking too much about this now!!)

I’ll talk about work more, even though that’s the only thing I talk about now— I’m starting to like it here, I think? Although I miss my old job, & have talked to my old boss, coworker, & some others who worked in the building. It’s nice to hear they miss me!

I went to a meeting this week? & They taught me to do things, so I was busier, & it feels good to be learning things. So the week actually didn’t feel too long, but I am a bit worn out.

In other news: I got a manicure yesterday ( I never, ever do. Maybe have only gotten one 4 times in my life?) & it was a gel manicure. Does anyone know stuff about those? Do they actually last 2-3 weeks? I bang up my hands a lot, so a typical manicure lasts like… a day, 2 days at most on me before I notice it chipping 😐

They last about 10 days on me. And they still slightly wreck your nails, not as bad as acrylic, but they won’t be the same. I get manicures religiously and I feel like the regular manicure is actually the best deal, but this is coming from someone who can get them to last at least 5-7 days. Also nail polish really makes the difference in how long it lasts. Essie fo life yo.

I always use OPI — is Essie a lot better? Never tried it though I see it in the salons all the time…

Also, Fab: get a light color. Manicures appear to last longer when the color is light just because the chips are less obvious. So if you want it to look nice for a long time get a light pink, pearl white, or some other unassuming shade…

It’s so so so good. Like a 5 year old could paint an amazing manicure with it. It goes on really smooth, there is literally no streaking at all ever. And it lasts way longer than any other brand. And they have silly names for their colors.

What prompted me to get a manicure was the incident that happened last time I tried to paint my nails— I actually did my toes, & my nails, & I did my toes first. Then my fingernails. And I fucked up one finger, so I had to remove the polish, which made me fuck up the entire hand. Then I fucked up my toes somehow, I removed all the polish from there (which fucked up the rest of my fingernails). So I’m sitting on the floor of my (windowless) bathroom, nail polish everywhere, inhaling nail polish fumes, wondering wtf happened to my life. Then I just removed EVERYTHING & started over, with the lightest non-color imaginable, which chipped off the very next day. So that’s when I was like, “real women get manicures DONE by professionals, right? I think I should just do that.”

I picked out an Essie color, because I like Essie, but then I decided it was TOO neutral (I love neutrals, but I was like, “okay come on Fab, you’re cooler than this mauve-tan”) & switched to an OPI black (so… @Banana opposite of light, hahaha, although I do follow that rule when I paint my own nails, because I suck sooooo badly at it)

ANYWAY, how goes gel wreck your nails?? They just pained over my real nails, there’s nothing fake on them— which I was surprised about? I thought gel was different. They just used “gel” polish & painted like 6 coats over it. Is that what a gel manicure is? Did I get schwindled?

Did they stick your hands in a UV light machine? That’s a gel mani. But usually just base coat, two coats of color, and topcoat. Six coats sounds odd.

I think taking the polish off is what really weakens your nails. Gel has to be soaked and scraped.

Yes! The lights were under the table, & between coats, he had me put my hands inside. I kept thinking I should’ve worn sunscreen, ha. And 6 coats was a SLIGHT exaggeration… it was more like 4 coats? (plus the base & top)

They should put sunscreen lotion on your hands! When I got gel manis my place used Aveeno SPF 70 or something. I wasn’t thrilled with how long the gel stuff took to put on and remove, so figured out how to make regular polish last as long as possible instead. I can’t paint my own nails either 🙁

Now they have a new polish at my salon by CND, the Shellac people, but it is polish, rather than gel or shellac. No UV light, comes off easily with remover, but stays on really really well. Longer than regular polish, almost as long as gel. $2 more per mani. Vinylux is the name. I had a dark green, now a bright coral, and it really is fantastic.

This was the slowest week ever. And I had my first ever trial on Wednesday which conveniently – and I mean that with the utmost amount of sarcasm possible – was a huge local media case. “Luckily”, I had a whole 48 hours to prepare, was not provided a witness list or any of the state’s exhibits beforehand, and was blessed with a client who had erroneously been led to believe she was totally going to win this trial.

On the positive side, the other attorney in my courtroom is awesome and super easy to get along with. And it’s a three day weekend. Yay.

All I want is to sleep and take a bunch of Benadryl because I have a cold. My best friend is coming into town though, which I’m super excited about but I also don’t have the energy for the big weekend on the town she’s wanting. It will be good though.

In case any one is keeping track I’m on antibiotic number three for my sinus infection now. One day I’m going to be healthy again. Although I was able to work out this week was which so nice. It was very therapeutic to sweat it out.

And also yay Friday and a three day weekend. Without it I would probably be crying!

Ugh sinus infections suck. Hopefully the third time is the charm. I had to go on 3 rounds of antibiotics to get rid of an infection in the fall.

I mean, if there was awesome bow chicka wow wow on the second date, and she wanted to go on a third date, there will likely be more awesome bow chicka wow wow on the second date.

Also, when I read you say tubing, I thought you were referring to water tubing and got REALLY confused for a minute.

Riding a big tube down a sledding hill. Duh.

Sometimes you can link together to make a tubing chain which is moderately unsafe but more moderately awesome.

So we went tubing and that was kind of shitty, but then we went back to my place and I made dinner and we watched hockey, and it was awesome. Then we had sex which was also awesome, but then when I pulled out it was like…ummmm is it that time of the month for you? And then it was like oh shit it is, and I was all like don’t worry about it, but then she was all embarrassed and I was like it’s really no big deal, but is there any on my face…and there wasn’t so I was happy.

I mean, no judgment from me (at all) but I gotta say, if you didn’t notice while you were going down on her, then I don’t know what the big deal is? The only reason I would be opposed to it is taste-wise. Like, if you couldn’t tell, what’s the harm?

But still, surprises of that nature aren’t great, all told.

You gonna see her again (in a week or so)? She sounds like fun, generally speaking.

Haha definitely seeing her again, I didn’t make a big deal about it, certainly not the first time its happened to me, she made a much bigger deal about it than needed to be, I actually have no problem banging during that time of the month, it doesn’t particularly gross me out.

Wahhh, this is my last weekend before school starts again! I’m having my St. Louis birthday party tomorrow night, though. SLUMBER PARTYYYY. We’re going to play truth or dare and braid each other’s hair and talk about BOYS and give each other facials (but not the porn kind)!….except not really. We’ll probably just get drunk and watch instructional belly dance DVDs.

We’ll today sucked. But after my stupid work day I did more medical training and I almost drew blood! Almost. Drawing blood on a cat is hard!

I also cannot wait to sleep tonight. Jake made me a gimlet but I think it just made me really sleepy.

Ugh, what a long ass week. I flew to LA last weekend to visit a college friend that I hadn’t seen in a couple of years, and I was recovering all week from that. I barely got any sleep, and then I was busy every night this week after work I feel like, so I feel like I just didn’t get anything done. I can’t wait to sleep in tomorrow, I’m not even bothering or trying to go out tonight. Hopefully the three hour nap I took earlier won’t wreck my sleep, but I also took a melatonin. I’m hosting a birthday party tomorrow, which is good since it’s an extra $40 for the month and it’s only 3 hours of work, but I also kinda wish I hadn’t accepted it. Oh well, I really only do a birthday party once a month, so I can’t beat that.

I feel like I’ve been so busy lately that I’m never on the internet anymore, just Facebook on my phone at work. Wendy, I wish you had a good mobile website!

Also, I didn’t know MLK day was this Monday until today. I don’t get it off. I did get my paycheck today instead of Monday, though – BONUS.

Guys, everyone can throat punch me now because I have a 4 DAY WEEKEND. We have off MLK day AND we don’t have class on Tuesday because it’s an online course and the other course hasn’t started yet. This week was my first week back and it wasn’t too bad, they are really easing us back in. I did have 6 hours of cardiology lecture or lab though, which was a lot. But on the plus side we had 6 dogs come in to lab with 6 different heart murmurs that we got to listen to which was pretty awesome and helpful. I feel kind of magical because I can listen to a dog’s heart and then based on the loudness/location of the murmur give a pretty good guess of what the heart defect is (what valve, what vessel). I mean… MAGIC PEOPLE!!

And then this whole weekend I have no plans except to hopefully see a friend before she moves to Colorado. I am going to try to get ahead on my online class, and get a lot done on my sweater. It’s snowing outside more so my motivation to spend anytime outdoors is pretty low but maybe if it stops I will take some photos. I dunno.

Ooh! I got to hear a murmur on a person in my last week of clinical. It was neat. I was on a cardiology floor but surprisingly most patients had normal-sounding hearts. The lady with the murmur’s daughter is a nurse, so when she realized there were students wandering around looking for stuff to do, she invited us all in to listen to her mom’s heart. Haha.

Anyway, I’m nervous about this semester. Since we’re accelerated, our OB and peds classes are combined into one… and…. they are jamming it into EIGHT WEEKS. The part-time and traditional programs take it as two separate classes. It used to be a full 16 weeks, class + clinical combined, but now it’s lecture for 8 weeks and then clinical for 8 weeks. I also have to take Adult Health II which is basically med/surg, patho, and pharmacology combined. In 8 weeks. Ugh. I’m stressing out just thinking about it.

Looking forward to the last week at the new job and learning about my new one. I got so mad on Friday when my boss started to crap on the times I was giving her for me to come in for like 8-12 hours weekly and help maintain my caseload so that everyone doesn’t get super taxed by my departure THROUGH FEBRUARY. She didn’t like that they weren’t all spaced out. I stopped myself but I almost said right there that that’s okay, I don’t have to do it at all and wash my hands of the place.

It’s not like they can even give me a reference or anything, I haven’t really worked anywhere than can give me a reference because of company rules. Human services are jumpy about that around here.

I got a lot of wedding stuff done yesterday and was able to do my first full workout this morning since wisdom teeth removal. I’d been trying my videos but kept getting a weird throbbing at a couple of the extraction sites so I stopped since I don’t want problems after getting an all clear and good going all the way through.

I can’t decide about my next videos. Has anyone tried Les Mills Combat or Pump? I’ve heard some about Chalene Extreme which is another video I’m considering getting.

Update on my gel manicure: I was chopping zucchini last night, & sliced off the corner of my thumbnail (just the polish, I mean—like, the polish came clear off, leaving a corner of bare nail). I then slammed the knife down & stalked off into the other room, pausing to slap my hands down on random surfaces, walk a few steps, slap them down on another surface in more shows of impotent anger while yelling GOD DAMN IT. GOD DAMN IT. It was very dramatic, & until I told Fabello that I ruined my manicure, he assumed I’d, like, chopped off a finger. sooo yeah
