I hope your allergies clear up over the weekend, Wendy. And that the allergist has some good drugs for you.

I’m looking forward to the weekend – just a couple more hours to go! My mom and sisters are visiting. Tomorrow is my mom’s birthday and we are going to play in the city to celebrate – happy hours, dinners, museums, boat tours, etc. But right now? I am at work and they are at my new condo hanging clothes, making Target trips, and cleaning. I love my family.

First weekend with my fiance in forever (have I complained about this enough yet?). We’re going to a minor league baseball game tomorrow which should be relaxing. I can’t wait for my trip to Vancouver in June! It’s a professional conference but I’ve worked in 2-3 vacation days to see the city.

Vancouver is such an awesome city, especially when the weather cooperates! If you have time I would highly recommend driving up to Banff.

I’m not a *club* guy – but there are some really fun clubs and the lines aren’t too bad.

Great city and the people are so nice. I try to get up there from Portland a couple times every year.

I’m looking forward to this weekend. Dave will be out of town for a majority of the weekend, so I’m on my own!
Tomorrow I’m running a 5K with my friend, and then I’ll probably just hang out with Rudy and the cats the rest of the day. I’m hoping to get in some yard work and do some work on this dresser I’ve been redoing for like a year (in my defense, it got cold, and I didn’t want to sand it outside in the cold).
Then on Sunday I am probably going to have a date with my friend’s 3 year old. We’re going to watch Frozen, since it’s apparently all the rage with the kids these days.

Dude, buying them now is the best time! Then you’re spending less money when you have the kids, and you already have a good stock of them. I already have lots of children’s books for that reason.

A little expensive… but they have a no-questions-asked-lifetime-guarantee on ALL of their stuff and the quality is fantastic… so you should get a leather tote here:

I’ve been carrying this as a purse, but I don’t think it’s real leather. The handles are long enough for me to easily put over my shoulder, but they’re not LONG. Mine is camel colored though, and I got it at Ross for like $35 instead of $90. It’s a good cheaper option with multi-functions, IMO.

It’s been a pretty good week for me. I’ve gotten to do some cool new things at work. Yesterday was GREAT because I just unexpectedly had one of my life goals handed to me. I can’t post what it is on the internet like this, but it’s a dream I didn’t think would come to life until I was in my 50s or so and after a ton of hard work for it. It just fell in my lap yesterday on a random day in my 20s, and it’s such a good opportunity for me.

Other than that though, I’ve had a headache for at least four months straight, and nothing is helping it. And I’m spending the weekend cleaning house basically, which I’m really looking forward to.

I accumulate a sick day at the end of the month, and that is Priority #1 once I get it! I also might go to the chiropracter the same day and see if they can adjust the headaches away like katie talks about.

        theattack April 25, 2014, 4:47 pm

That’s awesome! I have high hopes for the chiropracter helping. I’m pretty sure I have constant tension headaches, plus frequent sinus headaches, plus occasional migraines – all of which need to be treated. I can feel them layering on top of each other, and it sucks.

      • avatar

        kerrycontrary April 25, 2014, 4:59 pm

As an FYI—a LOT of sinus headaches are actually migraines. If you have the pain in your nose/head/cheeks without the symptoms of a sinus infection (swollen lymph nodes, gross boogers, etc…) it’s probably a migraine. But if you get 1 type of headache you’re susceptible to getting other ones like sinus/migraine/tension.

You know so much, kerry. Seriously, you have educated me so much about my own body. haha Okay, well then maybe I’m having frequent migraines instead, and that would explain why Sudafed isn’t touching what I thought were sinus headaches. I keep popping the Sudafed hoping it will touch it, but it never does.

Yeah, if they’re migraines, your better bet is trying triptans, but you need a prescription for those. Also, try drinking caffeine and eating chocolate — both contain chemicals that may alleviate some of the throbbing pain of migraines.

I saw Bruce Springsteen in concert last night. He was amazing!!! Seriously can’t believe the dude is 64–he even crowd-surfed!

My daughter is going to a sleepover (aka free babysitting) on Saturday and the boyfriend and I are going to the local beer/food truck rodeo.

Also, next week the boyfriend and I hit the 6 month mark which for some weird reason makes me feel like things are more legit. Am I the only one? Like I hated when people aske how long we’ve been dating and I had to be like “oh, 4 months”. I feel like people take 6 months more seriously, I guess.

I’m halfway through formatting my manuscript, which means I could have review copies as early as next week! Though it’s coming out a lot longer than I expected when I put it completely in format, with front- and backmatter, so I may have to ask my designer to redo the spine of the jacket she did to make it wider. So, hunkering done for a quiet weekend with Banano while he does homework and I do book stuff. And some sunshine. Heavy sunshine.

I’m going to hang at his place this weekend so I can make him dinner, take care of him, do some chores for him so he can focus. He has a big project due this Sunday so hopefully he’ll feel better when that’s over. It’s not a bad deal, because he’s the sort of person who needs unbroken focus on projects, whereas I benefit from getting up, walking about, and sitting back down, especially since formatting doesn’t require a ton of creative effort.

They’ve been playing here for 4 years, and I’m really happy for them that they’re branching out, but ahh I’m gonna miss him so much. The distance is going to be hard for me. Our roommate is also in their band and living alone was never my favorite thing. We’ve been talking back and forth about it (last talked 2 weeks ago), and a position would be a couple of months out from now, but I want to keep in touch and see if we can schedule a coffee meeting or something for May. And we haven’t even started doing any of that stuff yet! Just enjoying exploring the neighborhood so far, and running in Balboa Park.

I should have internet in the new apartment by the end of tomorrow, but turns out there is a guest network that has decent signal so yay for that.

Congrats on the move! Do you live near Balboa park? That’s such a pretty park.

Yep, like right next to it! We will pretty much never run out of things to do.

Enjoy! I seriously expect my parents to just up and move there one day without telling me first. They absolutely adore it. I think my mom is already secretly planning it.

Instead of what I thought was just going to be my friend (who is also moving) and our other friend for dinner turned out to be a surprise going away party tonight!

Who doesn’t love an impromptu party for doing what you were going to do anyway??

My best friend dumped her girlfriend of nine years last night. I’m gonna write a forum post about it because I have lots of feelings.

My feelings: this is a long time coming, so I’m happy, but they’ve broken up before and gotten back together multiple times, and it doesn’t sound like they’re cutting contact or like they’re not going to sleep together when her now-ex-girlfriend visits from California in June. Like I said, forum post. I advised my friend to post something because DWers give the best advice but she said I should post something instead and tell her what y’all say. So I will.

I lied, I can’t make a whole forum post, because it would be a novel. Basically, how do I talk to my friend about the fact that if she doesn’t cut contact or stop fucking her now-ex, she won’t move on at all? How do I convince her that she wants to move on?
      .
Her girlfriend MOVED ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITHOUT HER in October and she’s just now dumping her because the girlfriend wouldn’t move back if my friend got her dream job here. So like, there’s a whole series of issues.

This pattern will continue if she doesn’t cut contact. She’ll get back together with the girlfriend and will be super unhappy all over again. Unless she gets out of the cycle, she won’t be able to move on. Maybe ask her to write a list of reasons WHY they broke up in the first place. That has helped me in the past.
