Wendy’s Picks

img-thingWendy’s Weekly Picks” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the things I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

I have found the world’s best stoner snack and it’s called Funky Chunky (I wouldn’t have qualified it as a stoner snack, per se, but with a name like Funky Chunky, you sort of have to.) My favorite is the peanut butter cup popcorn (“Crunchy popcorn, peanut butter cups, peanut butter, chocolate and peanuts sprinkled over for good measure,” omg).

Have you ever heard of Hue lights? I hadn’t until a couple weeks ago when I was in Chicago and we went to a friend’s house who had them. I complimented him on the exceptional lighting in his apartment and he said, “Oh, it’s Hue lighting,” and then he proceeded to show me how he could control the color (like, every color of the rainbow and then some) and intensity of each light bulb from his iPhone. What? The future is amazing!

I got this dead sea mud mask on a whim the other day and have used it twice so far and really like it. It was also fun to scare the kids when I went to tuck them in at bedtime. Highly recommend.

All the thin, relatively small-boobed women in Brooklyn this summer are sporting tank tops with big armholes that show off pretty, pretty lacy bras like this and this and this. I wish I could pull off that look, but, alas, my triple-Ds prevent such a thing.

Speaking of things I cannot pull off but which look beautiful on other people: this dress just went on sale and one of you aforementioned thin, small-boobed women must get it.

The Nordstrom anniversary sale continues for one more week. Here are few more picks from the sale: this duvet, a beautiful (and practical) wedding gift, one of my favorite bras (big-busted gals, this one’s for you!), I bought Joanie this really cute dress to wear this fall, and I really could have used this for many a potluck and picnic!

    1. Super cute dress from anthro! 2. I love those bras. Bought a few different styles last year from free people (one like you’re showing, a bandeau and a couple simple bralettes) since I was having trouble finding a strapless bra that actually fit. These were a pretty alternative.

As an aside, I was sporting the NuBra for a while when I needed strapless. One day last summer, it was so hot while I was walking that I basically sweated it right off. Hence the pretty lace bra, bralette and bandeau shopping binge.

I own a hue set myself. I LOVE them. Like….LOVE. I can operate my apartment from my android device. I like Hue Manic and making my apartment into a dance party with the sound and lights. I took them on a trip with me this last weekend so we could enjoy a club like atmosphere in the safety of our rented condo!

My husband and I watched a TV show awhile back that said it was integrated with Hue. We don’t have Hue, but it’s a cool idea! Like if the scene was in a forest and all the room lights turned green, it would be like you were in the forest too!

Do they just replace the normal light bulbs in your lamps? We have mostly potlights downstairs, and ceiling fans upstairs. I don’t think these will work, right?

Yeah they replace the normal lamps.

So I have them in regular floor lamps, bedside lamps and overhead lights in my ceiling fan. I leave the in the “on” position and turn them on and off from my phone. There’s the ones that will be regular and ones that will be for recessed PAR lamps.

Right now I have the “relax” setting on in my two living room lamps and I have the “dimmed” setting on in my bedroom. When I leave my living room I’ll shut them off from my phone and be in my bedroom with them on still. And then laying in bed I’ll turn everything off (including my overhead).

I have an android. It works with Apple and Droid. I use HueManic for my party lights..

Nice! Well, I do need to get some lamps for the living room at least. The potlights are handy but are a bit harsh at night. So maybe when I do I’ll give these a go!

Now I’ve just spent way too much money on the Nordstrom sale. I’m getting the Chantelle bra and the potluck bag in fancy colorful stripes, plus a sweater and some adorable pajama pants. I tend to shy away from ordering clothes online since I have a hard time fitting into most things (I’m short, fat, and super busty and that’s a tough combination), but I’m really hoping it all works!

I feel like there should be a better way of putting bra sizes on the insides of bras. I have a Chantelle bra and I tried to see what size it was to order something that would fit well but I had cut one tag out long ago and the remaining one is so faded I can’t read the size. They need to embroider the size inside or something so I know what size to buy (since I seem to wear a different cup size in every brand).

Wendy, do you have an affiliate link for ModCloth? They have such great stuff there, especially lots of plus sized clothes. And the shoes, oh god, the shoes are amazing.
