Wendy’s Picks

Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the things I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

Saw these in the grocery store a couple weeks and made an impulse purchase. Best impulse purchase ever, maybe. I bought them for Jackson, but I went back and bought two more packs just for me.

When I’m home, I basically like to not be wearing pants, and when I’m in bed, I especially want to be pantsless (Hi, Ramona!). Even lounge pants or PJ bottoms feel too restrictive for me, and nightgowns are either too matronly or too lingerie-ish to wear around my home. Enter: the world’s perfect nightshirt. If only I could get away with wearing it everywhere, all the time.

It’s coat season and maybe you’re realizing you need a new one. Shout-out to the coat I’ve been wearing for the last four of five seasons (well, this is the same brand and very similar). It’s warm without being bulky, it’s comfy and cozy, and at less than $200, the cost-per-wear over five years is pretty awesome. I also have two faux fur jackets I like to wear to mix it up (and eventually, I’d like to get a leather moto jacket, but I haven’t found one I love yet). If you’re in the market for a faux fur jacket, this one. (One of mine if from H&M last season and it’s sooo cozy).

So, I bought that damn brush Kate was raving about a few weeks back, and I promised I would report back with my impression. I think I don’t have the right type of hair, maybe, or the right lifestyle for this thing. Since I don’t go to work, I don’t have to look polished every day and I tend to blow dry my hair for five minutes with a round brush and feel put-together enough for my life of working at home, taking my toddler to music class, and picking my kindergartener up from school. I’m just not willing to spend more than five minute on my hair — even on a date night, I don’t want to spend more than 10 minutes on it — and with this brush, you need a solid 20 minutes at least to get the flat-iron look it’s known for. I guess that’s better than the 40 minutes a real flat iron might take, but it’s still 15 minutes too long for me. And, plus, I like my wavy hair, and don’t necessarily covet straight hair. But that’s just me. I think for the right person — i.e. someone like Kate — this is a game-changer. For me, it’s probably not going to get pulled out of the drawer more than a couple times a year.

We finally got rid of our side chair we’ve had for the past six years or so and had been torn to shreds by our cats. We got this replacement chair, and with a discount code on top of the sale price, it was kind of a steal. I love the color, the size is perfect for our small living room, and it’s incredibly comfortable.

Speaking of cats — we were, weren’t we? — how cute are these measuring cups?

I love these earrings. Love the price even more.

Yup, I would concur on the brush. If you can blow dry your hair with a round brush in 5 mins, you’re a lucky betch and I’m jealous! It takes me forever and still won’t look good (it takes my hairstylist maybe 20-25 minutes). Lianne was blow drying with a round brush and then flat-ironing, so she’s cut out a whole step. I just never straightened my own hair at home, so it is a game changer. For the price, it’s worth a try if you like a smooth straight look without being flat.

Ok, I think I might be lucky with how easily my hair can be styled via a hair dryer and I didn’t realize that until now.

Seriously, if it only takes you 5 minutes to blow dry your hair, I’m jealous. I’ve pretty much given up on blow drying my hair because it takes way too long. I think it’s like half an hour, then a while with a straightener. If I go to sleep with wet hair, it’ll still be wet in the morning.

That said, I haven’t gotten the brush because I almost never blow dry my hair anyway – I usually use mousse and air dry or pull it back in a messy bun or just pony tail.

Pixie cut! 5 minutes every day, tops, and I’m done!

However, I do spend two hours at the salon every six weeks. So despite the everyday ease, I guess my hair is a bit high maintenance.

I like the brush because it gives me smooth, styled hair really fast. I mean, wake up with bedhead and I’m looking good in ten minutes. But I can’t blow dry my hair into looking like anything good to save my life.

I decided I’m buying a new coat at the end of the season and I really like the one you linked. Do you think it may go on sale or should I snatch it up?

Someone I know agreed to buy her daughter a Canada Goose coat for Christmas. Idk why. She knew it was going to be $800 or $900, but the one that looked good on her was $1,200 and she only realized when they got to the register. There, does that make you feel fine about it?

Go to Wrentham Outlets. That’s where the mom got her own coat for $100, which she felt was too much to spend ?

Well, if you want to wait til the end of the season, do that. But do a search of everywhere it’s sold and then check in periodically to see if the cost is on sale or if there’s a discount code available at the store:

Yeah I have a coat that is fine for now and since I just bought it last year I feel like I need to be frugal. The reason I want to replace it is because I thought I was the type of person that could have a white coat. Turns out, I’m not.

I’ll do what you suggest. Thanks!!

Hey look — it just went on sale!

A bit over the $100 you want to spend, but still a good price for a great coat. Like I’ve said, I’ve used mine four or five winters in a row now, almost daily through the winters, and with the exception of needing a couple loose seems reinforced, it’s held up perfectly and is very warm without being bulky.

This gets better and better…I signed up to be a “Loyalist” and got an additional 15% off AND free shipping. So I just got the coat for $117.81. Thank you again, Wendy, for both the recommendation AND the tip off that it went on sale.

I also meant to mention one of my favorite features is the fur all around the collar not just in the hood. So genius!
