“Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the stuff I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:
Since it started getting a little cooler here in recent weeks, I’ve been noticing a new shoe trend on the women of Brooklyn: the brown leather slip-on sneaker. I’ve seen several variations and these are some of my favorites. Of course, if you have money to burn, there’s always these.
Another trend you can’t walk down the street and miss is jogger pants. As someone whose postpartum figure isn’t quite back to pre-baby shape, can I say how awesome it is that freakin’ sweat pants are on trend? For a more polished version, I love these and they’re currently 30% off the sale price with code XTRAXTRA. Ooh, I’m totally going to get them! Also marked down an additional 30% off with code XTRAXTRA: these awesome wide-leg pants, this super cute purse, and this caftan for your next Polynesian-themed dinner party. (My friends in Chicago really did all wear caftans at their Polynesian-themed dinner party recently, and I was so sad to miss it).
My friend Mary gave me a bottle of NUXE Huile Prodigieuse (Multi-Purpose Dry Oil), remembering how much I complimented her on her shimmer and glow months ago at a party she hosted. This is one part moisturizer, one part very subtle fragrance, and one part golden shimmer for your décolletage or legs or whatever part of your body you’d like to highlight. I seriously love this stuff.
Earlier this summer, a few days before Joanie was born, my friend whipped up lunch for us after we’d spent the morning with our kids at the playground. It was a spur-of-the-moment lunch invite and I was pretty impressed with the amazing salad she put together, full of fresh greens, tomatoes, some leftover three bean salad, and the most delicious kind of fish. “What is that?” I asked? “It’s tuna!” she said. And then she showed me the jar — yes, jar! — it came from and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I’m ruined for regular canned tuna now.
Totally shifting gears: Are you following the HONY refugees series? (I follow most closely on Instagram, but you can follow on Facebook, Twitter, and on the blog itself). One of the most provocative, compelling, and heartbreaking things on the internet.
Finally, for anyone thinking about planning a trip to NYC — especially with the holidays around the corner (!) —— allow me to recommend the boutique hotel CitizenM. When my friends stayed there for a weekend in August, I snuck out for a nightcap with them after everyone at my place was asleep, and I checked out their room and the awesome roof top deck and bar. I can’t say enough about how great this place is. The rooms are tiny but so well appointed and designed that they aren’t cramped at all. They seem more like capsule rooms in some cool space shuttle from the future, actually. Plus, the hotel’s perfectly located in the center of the city, near Times Square (not that Times Square is so great, but it is centrally-located anyway) and the price is affordable.
