Wendy’s Weekly Picks

unnamed-2Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, much of the stuff I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

It’s getting summertime-hot out and, since my due date is still six weeks away, I thought I better get a couple new maternity sundresses as the ones I wore with Jackson four years ago are pretty stretched out and faded and cannot contain my enormous rack (although, really, what can?). I ordered four dresses from Target that were on sale but returned three of them. This is the one I’m keeping and I love it — the color, the cut, and the style are all flattering, and I bet I’ll probably continue wearing it for a few weeks after I give birth.

And speaking of Target, they’re having a “buy one get one 50% off” sale on shorts this week. How cute are these and these?

Anthropologie is also having a sale (20% off through the end of the day) on shorts, and tops, too. I would never pay full price for this, but 20% off makes it, I don’t know, kind of doable? (Though, honestly, I’d probably wait ’til it was marked down 50%). Same with this one (in blue). Ooh, and I love this one. And if I were rich and skinny and young (maybe you are these things?), I would wear this (with lots of gold jewelry and high heels) to pre-dinner drinks on my vacation in St. Tropez. (Once, when I was skinny and young, I did vacation in St. Tropez. I was not rich, but I had a credit card and a free place to stay. I went out for pre-dinner drinks, but I did not wear an outfit like this — I think I wore a jean skirt and a t-shirt — and that’s too bad. Youth really is wasted on the young. Or, at least it was on young me).

Related to an article I shared in last week’s Friday Links, I’m thinking about getting these period panties (is there a worse product name?), especially for use in the days after baby comes. Has anyone tried them?

Bath and Body Works is having a 75% off sale on certain products (plus $10 off purchases of $40 with code TEN4U). I stopped by the store after I returned my dresses at Target yesterday and it was a mad house — a line literally out the door. Needless to say, I will make any purchases online.

I wish I had an excuse (and the body and the extra $259) to wear this because it’s beautiful and I love it.

This swimsuit is so cute. Also, what do you guys think of the long-sleeve swimsuit look? I’m seeing it all over (and in a fashion-y way, not a surfer way). On one hand, I think it’s sort of ugly? But, on the other hand, sun protection! And, actually, I do like this one.

I just bought the Esther Williams Mod Cloth suit in Red and love it. Sexy, but supportive and very forgiving in the belly region. I needed something to hide my “I had 2 babies in 2 years” mid-section and also stay attached and tied when the aforementioned little humans cling to me in the water. Cute and practical!

Wendy you could totally pull off the modcloth dress!

I also do not like the long sleeve swimsuits! Is it because people are cold? Or sensitive about arm chub? I do gain weight first in my upper arms weirdly, but I’m thinking those swimsuits would draw attention to it if anything.

I also do not like the jumpsuit trend—except on 12 yr olds— but I must be in the minority, because I’m seeing them everywhere in NYC. Rompers can be cute though.

@coconot, I can’t speak for anyone else but I wouldn’t mind a long-sleeve swimsuit just for sun protection. I have very pale skin, plus I have a lot of moles, which puts me at risk for skin cancer. I hate spending the day in the sun because of it. Something like this would make me a lot more comfortable with the idea of being out all day.

I think that’s what they’re intended for…I didn’t read the descriptions too closely, but many long sleeved swim shirts have spf in the material.

Mine is rated by the cancer society as an SPF 50. It is great.

So, I am late to the party but i bought a long sleeve swimsuit. But it was a shirt from lands end and then a bottom, not all one suit. some people call it a “Rashgard”. I love it. I am very fair and burn my shoulders constantly. It was great for active swimming. For example, I went snorkling on vacation or any day that I spent more time in the water than on land. Because sunscreen washes off, that is when I got it the worst and this was cute and it fixed my problem. If you find a cute one, it is great for someone who wants to be active on the beach.

I can definitely see that. As someone who has about a billion freckles on her arms, I should probably invest in a long-sleeve swimsuit to protect my arms from further skin damage…

On long sleeve swimsuits: I’ve seen some cute ones and not so cute ones. If I got one (which I might since I like to swim and it is sunny and hot here 90% of the time) I’d get a 2-piece one because it’s always easier to go to the rest room.
